A new United Nations report shows the world is on a “catastrophic pathway” toward a hotter future unless governments make more ambitious pledges to cut greenhouse gas emissions, the head of the UN said last week.
That’s the latest blunt assessment by the United Nations in its 42 page report. The report says that most countries have failed to uphold promises to make deep cuts to greenhouse gas pollution, in order to avoid the most catastrophic effects of climate change.
According to the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, meeting the more ambitious target of a 2.7 degree Fahrenheit temperature rise would require eliminating fossil fuels almost entirely by 2050.
A review of all the national commitments submitted by signatories of the Paris climate accord until July 30, found that based on detailed information from signatories, this would result in emissions rising nearly 16 percent by 2030, compared with 2010 levels.
“The 16 percent increase is a huge cause for concern,” according to Patricia Espinosa, the UN’s chief climate negotiator, reports the BBC.
“It is in sharp contrast with the calls by science for rapid, sustained and large-scale emission reductions to prevent the most severe climate consequences and suffering, especially of the most vulnerable, throughout the world.”
This shows the world is heading in the wrong direction. Scientists recently confirmed that to avoid the worst impacts of hotter conditions, global carbon emissions needed to be cut by 45 percent by 2030.
That is only 14 years away folks, to curtail at the minimum & reduce simultaneously carbon emissions, or it's fucking game over.

The COP26 climate conference is scheduled to take place in Glasgow in just over six weeks’ time. The main focus of the event is to keep alive hopes of limiting the rise in global temperatures by persuading nations to cut their emissions.
Yet, out of the 191 countries taking part in the agreement, only 113 have so far come up with improved pledges. Alok Sharma, the British minister who will chair the COP26 conference, said nations that had ambitious climate plans were “already bending the curve of emissions downwards.”
“But without action from all countries, especially the biggest economies, these efforts risk being in vain,” Sharma added. A recent study by Climate Action Tracker found that of the G20 group of leading industrial nations, only a handful including the UK and the US have strengthened their targets to cut emissions.

They include China, which is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, as well as Japan, Australia, South Korea, and Brazil.
Another analysis shows that China, India, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey – together responsible for 33 percent of greenhouse gases – have yet to submit updated plans, like not even a fucking word

Maybe look at it this way? There is no perfect candidate never has been. There is no perfect party never has been but it sure seems like this would be the perfect time to vote D just because of this republican candidate and the cult he leads. There are consequences for protest votes or sitting out elections because it IS unfortunately a two party system.
Look at what happened with Hillary not winning the electoral vote, which I blame complacency AND the pissed off Bernie or bust heads. A huge setback in climate change policy and how about some more ultra conservative supreme court justices? Imagine the different path we would be on if fewer people had voted for Nader, especially in Florida? Gore would have been better than Bush right? Especially for our climate emergency.
To me it’s black and white but even if it was black and gray wouldn’t gray be the better option? Voting green would essentially be a vote for black.

I think I posted an article from Newsweek in this thread last night that suggested Jill Stein voters are not merely frustrated Democrats. So the assumption that Green Party voters hurt the Dems may not be correct.
Also, I live in safely Blue Colorado; I didn't see the Jill and Butch team getting any electoral college votes here. I'm voting Green because I want better alternatives than "insipid vs insane," both of whom are completely beholden to the oligarchy that's wrecking the country.
Finally and most important; just because they aren't my children, brothers, sisters or parents, just because they aren't my countrymen dying in Palestine by bombs with American flags on them, doesn't make GENOCIDE acceptable in any way. I will not have it on my conscience. I will not vote for anyone who would continue supporting, arming, funding and FUCKING PARTICIPATING in it!

I see the problems as you've laid them out here. I also see reason for hope.
One big positive sign is the exponential growth of renewable energy generation year over year, with the trend showing no signs of slowing. Solar and wind power, the growing adoption of EVs and the exponentially growing flood of grid scale battery storage capacity all point to drastic reductions in fossil fuels use coming within within a decade.
Y'all want a hot stock tip? Batteries are the new plastics.

Refused to send some types of heavy bombs knowing damn well the IDF would have killed even more innocents. Repeatedly pressuring Netanyahu for a ceasefire.
And then you got tRump. First of all he says it would have never happened if he were potus. Uh huh. But how do you think a republican administration would be handling this right now? Im haveing a hard time making that math work, but, i dont run any enviourmental controls dedicated to my grow. My hvac dose the heavy lifting and i adjust that to my fams confort not my plants, a largw portion of my local power supply comes from a local nuclear plant. We do pretty good with light dep greenhouses using solar for lights and solar wells pumping our water.
With a quality house couldn't you skip the depo in spring and fall and only have to pull tarp to keep bloom during the summer months?
