Clarification for soil and nute

Ok, bear with me, I am a newbie but I have been reading like mad!! This will be my first grow. Indoor, veg cab than into 3x3x6 flower tent with 400HPS light with digital ballast.

I think the consensus is that FoxFarm makes good stuff. I read on here that a mix of one bag FFOF and light warrior is a good mix. I read one bag to one bag but it seems the OF comes in 40lbs bags and the light warrior in 12 lbs bags, is it still one bag each or equal parts of the two soils? Do I add perlite at all to this mix or just the two soils?

I plan on ordering a prop kit that I found for cheap that uses SuperPlugs which are supposed to be the all natural version of rockwool-than I thought once they sprout and get a good root system that I would transfer them to my final pots for the veg and flower stage. The seed bank I ordered from said their descriptions of yield and such were based on 2 gallon pots, does that sound about right? I see some people use 5 gallon or bigger but my space is small, will they get root bound in 2 gallon pots?

Second Q, I read that with this mix, I shouldn't need to fert until my plants are 4-5 weeks old-is that from the time the seed is planted?

Third Q, in an attempt to keep it simple stupid, which nute would be recommended? I see FF has BigBloom, Organic Tiger Bloom and Beastie Bloom. Do I use all of just one of those? Will it tell me on the bottle on much to use and how often?

Because I am getting the pre-nute soil, will I need any other nutes or chemicals other than PH up and Down?

I'm getting ready to go shopping, thanks to the great post someone made with all the local grow shops posted, I thought I was going to have to order all this stuff! I'm trying to make my "grocery" list as complete as can be so please feel free to add any other comments.

your much better going with a good quality top soil or potting soil both have no nutes and a p.h. of (7.0) ideal.then mix with perlite 60%soil 40%perlite.dont feed the seedlings any nutes at all for the first 3 weeks and then start off with 1/3 strength and build it up to full strength over a couple of weeks.
and yes use a propogator and jiffy/peat pellets to get your sprouts started and when they have just transplant the jiffys into your soil.
and a rule of thumb for plants is one gallon of soil per foot of plant.
and you can start your grow straight with the h.p.s. lamp and skip any other king of vegging lamps just get a GROWLUX OR SUNMASTER bulb witch has enough blue spectrum for vegging and the one bulb will do for the whole grow.
you will also need ventilation/extraction for that size of grow space using a 400w h.p.s.

no need to say much as LUDACRIS is on spot, way to go. but do check ph after mixing your nutes. you want 6.0---6.5. even if you just use water ph it also. check your runout about once every week or so. just watch your, HEAT, OVER WATERING, AND NUTEING your plants and they will be great. good luck

i fully second that opinion.
CRIS.

Ok
, than, you guys are the experts. Quality top soil and
perlite
-can do! Looks like I need to rethink things.

I've got the green thumb but my hubby is my electrical man and will hook up all the intake/outtake/fans/timers and the likes. Its sort of his day job, I'm calling him my technical engineer!

My plan was after they sprout, veg them in a separate cab that will also be used for cloning. Am I silly to expect to be able to clone off my first grow? I ordered some good seeds-Burmese and a medial pack with three different strains in it. I figured I'd start with only two of the four strains so as not to confuse myself too much.

Than, when after veg, I thought I would put them in the grow tent and veg out my clones while I'm waiting for the flowering to finish than I would have plants all set to take there place in the flower tent.

I have been reading for weeks and I get most of it, EXCEPT the
nutes
! That's why I thought the soil with the
nutes
might be easier but I will take your advice instead. Can you direct me to a list of
nutes
that I will need to purchase? I have read
SuperThrive
is good when you transplant to the pots but that goes against the advice of no
nutes
for the first few weeks? I'm trying to only transplant once to avoid added stress.

I have a 3 ring binder with all the info I have learned copied down into it, I'm very organized but just not understanding what I will need to buy in the way of
nutes
? Is there a basic veg
nute
and a basic flower
nute
? I've looked at all the
nutes
that are available and I'm just not sure what to go with. I get the veg needs a higher N and more balanced in the flowering stage. Is there a particular brand or line of
nutes
that has all the products I will need? Sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to do my homework first as I'm starting with expensive seeds and laying out a couple of thousand dollars to get it all right.

I do
appreciate
you taking time to answer my questions! I hope to be around for a long while and be able to post pics of my garden!

WHOAW, sorry about the layout of my above post-hmmmm,not sure what I did? I'm at work and not even high! LOL!!! Maybe I forgot to take the spell check off? Sorry guys!

This store is within driving distance of me
http://www.hydroharrys.com/catalog/#

My hubby teases me because I haven't even sprouted a seed yet and I am totally obsessed with growing already!!! I have my notebook and books I ordered and I'm trying to learn a good basic understanding for now. I hope to go to screen of green in my small space after the first couple of grows. I just gotta get this nute thing under into my brain. I don't want to be a stranger anymore!

On a silly note, I get the sense that most people hear are males, is there enough room for a little estrogen here with all this testertrone? Any other girl growers out there that would like to introduce yourself?

superthrive is not reqd regardless of transplanting.
these are the nutes i use with my top soil and perlite mix.
miracle grow(powder) for vegging (works great).
and my organic nutes for flowering. bio-bizz dutch organic(grow and bloom used together mixed).
the bio-bizz grow has an n.p.k. of 8-2-6.
the bio-biz bloom has an n.p.k. of 2-6-3.5.
(but are mixed at different amounts i.e 2ml grow and 3ml bloom per litre)

Cool dude! Thanks Mr. Ganja, I certainly can't argue with your picture! I will research those products. You now have a page in my notebook! LOL!

I would love to hear what others as using like this, basically what soil and nutes are you using?

I assume that I still need the ph up and down? Or should I just test my soil and water first and buy it if needed?

I've read Clonex (sp?) is the best cloning gel, is that true or are they all about the same?

Thanks Ludacris!
Do those nutes have both the macro and micro nutes needed? Am I over thinking this??? I just like to be prepared and understand things before I do it and since I'm laying out some coin here, I don't want to screw it up!

if you buy regular top soil or potting soil it will have a p.h. of (7.0).
just buy a cheap p.h. water testing kit from a pet/fish shop for measuring the p.h of the water you use(tap/bottled).try and use water slightly acidic(6.5 p.h).
and you will be spot on from there.
when you start adding nutes give them a good soaking after the second feed put one pot on a plate when watering and test the water that runs out the bottom pot holes and gathers in the plate for p.h. level with your test kit.
shoot for 6.5-6.8.
i have never had to p.h. up or down growing this way its always spot on.

Thanks Ludacris!

yes they have all essential nutes.all you need is the bottle of bio-bizz grow(1ltr) and the bottle of bio-bizz bloom(1ltr) nothing else exept a little epsom salts towards the end but i have never used the salts).
if you decide to use these nutes then there is a specific feeding guide for them wich i have as the dosages printed on the bottles are incorrect.
this has been confirmed by bio-biz (the suppliers) and other growers i know that use it.
the supplying hydro store has confirmed and knows the stated dosages are also wrong.

I started using blackgold coco mix. For veg nutes I'm using alaska fish fert, epsoms salt, molasses, superthrive. It works great the plants love it but it smells like hell. that line also has a flowering nute. As for cloneing if you diy a bubblel cloner you don't need anything but water and a little super thrive. Sorry the pic with the roots has some root rot I tried to grow out a budclone and the water got to warm. with this setup you can seeroots in 4-5 days andplant around 14days

And a pic of plants in the coco blend. as of now the only thing I've used is the fish fert and super thrive.

I use FF Ocean Forest and I have to say its a great soil. I mix in a bag of perlite for 2 bags of Ocean Forest. I also use the 6 step FF fertilizer, the three liquids and the three solubles. I have never had any issues with it and my plants seem to love it. If you do go with Ocean Forest I wouldn't use any nutes the first 3 weeks, if they are seedlings or freshly rooted clones. The feeding schedules are really simple to follow and you get them online or at hydro store that sells FF. Good luck!

spot on bro + reps. a couple other things are don't feed your plant untill they are at least 2 to 3 weeks old then start with 1/4 strenth and work up to fll strenth over a couple weeks time.

Was talking to the hydro store guy.he was saying fox farm is over rated. Not to say it's a bad product just way over priced. He said there are plenty of brand out that do as well or beter and way less money. I've never tried the fox farm line. Now that he has the line I will be running tests this summer to see for myself.

thanks mygirls.
i forgot to mention to the poster about when and how much nutes to add.
well spotted mate.

Maybe his profit margin on FF is lower than on other brands.. I feel like nutes and soil are basically personal preference. I have always had great results with FF and haven't found any reason to switch. And as far as FF being more expensive, I would have to say that the prices are pretty much in line with their competitors.
