Thanks for starting this post diemdepyro.
I have pain and have been living with it for about a decade. No accident, not work related ... just bad luck and bad genes. I have degenerative disc disease, arthritus, dupatrins (SP) laderhosen (dupatrins in feet){contracture of the sheath around the muscles in the hand and fingers}[hard as hell to type.
C2 to T1 is fused and need to fuse T1 but will lose ability to turn head if I don't get an artifical disc. But of course insurance won't pay because of it being brand new and very $$$$

  • both shoulders operated on
  • 4 neck operations
  • 2 hand ops
  • lower back op
  • hip, groin and leg pain since lower back op (some unexplainable)
  • more would be just a run on
and I am not that bad. I know of others worse off.
BUT IT SURE GETS FUCKING OLD
I had a pain free day in 2005 ... right after a shot in the neck ... but almost 24hrs pain free. I HATE GOING TO BED IN PAIN AND WAKING UP IN PAIN!

I take 75mgs of morphine every 8 hrs to dull the pain but have gotten off 3 or 4 drugs by using MMJ and meditation.

I'm thinking of trying yoga. Did it help anyone?
I was doing yoga and I found benefits, great benefits when integrated into my spiritual world. I am a practicing Buddhist.
Accupuncture also helped. Now I do no PT, yoga or much walking because I am learning what PROGRESSIVE DISEASE means. More PAIN .lol /cry

may diemdepyro and all of us
be free of suffering
and find peace

I fell 28 feet from an electrical pole... Landed on my back on a rock the size of my truck wheel... Been in pain ever since. Funny thing is, after it happened I called my boss on the nextel chirp, and he asked me when I was going to the next job... even after I told him I cant move my legs

I'm alive... Not totally crazy... and medicated (not on pills thank god, I would be hooked)... Pot does some good for me, helps me keep my mind off the back... but yes. US, and the company was VERY greedy, and is now out of business and the CEOs were arrested for sneaking billions of dollars in cash out of the company.

As much as I bitch about doctors the ones I have kept are good. We mostly just chat about other patients and then they ask me what i "need" it is tempting not to get meds just because I can but i figure I will need them later and do not want a substantial resistance.

Staying off the meds will help later. I wish I wasn't taking so much morphine. I was switching from morphine to methadone, (needed more pain relief). The amount of methadone wasn't high enough because I went thru withdrawls. 8 hrs of vomitting, diarreha, sweats, chills and stomach cramps. OMFG I wished I would die.
I stayed with the morphine, & said screw that methadone BS.
I have a new compassion for junkies. I NEVER want to go thru withdrawls again. The worst was the mental black pit of insanity I fell down.

Today is another day and I am grateful to be alive and able to live in a state that voted MMJ into law years ago.:weed:

I was on grams of morphine a day. Stopped, suffered and got better.
My final analysis:
The morphine did not kill the pain.

Lucky you. I am jealous. Without the pain meds I can't deal with the pain at all. Morphine doesn't kill my pain either but it does mask it so I can get thru my days and nights.
Now if I had the $$$$$ for the neck operation .... no use dreaming.

Glad to hear you got off this shit. May you never need it again.

I am inoperable. Today.
The pain is still there just no point in narcotics for me if they do not work. The painkillers may work later but I will wait as long as possible.

I guess I'll throw in my $.02. I am in chronic pain and have been since 1998. No chance of ever being better.. only getting worse. I try to not take pain pills.. I know in the future it may not be an option.

I do not smoke because of my job.... but I know that it would help me.

Getting up sometimes is tough..... especially since I also have chronic mono and I am exhausted. (mono tests have been positive for almost 3 years) Chronic pain, chronic mono, chronic sinus disease, chronic stomach/digestive problems, a brain tumor, a thyroid tumor (lost half of the thyroid a few years back) and lots of metal in my body. Thank God that I was always very flexible (gymnast) in my youth.... this helps me now.

I too think about when "that day" will come that I can't take it any more... but today isn't that day.

Minute by minute.... time passes by.

I just keep laughing..... it's better than crying.

Hugs to everyone.

Your attitude while enduring all that is going on for u is truly the best medicine.

Thru this I have truly learned what living in the moment means.

I live with tourettes everyday, (not the voice impediment you all think about) i got hit by a runaway trailer hitch when i was 14 and put me in the hospital for 3 days in a coma, the thing that got me out of it, (i think) was because my brother was eating icecream beside my bed and stuck some to my lips and i woke up, just like that.

now, my neck and head spaz out so hard that i get chronic migraines and my head jerks atleast 600 times a day, and i have a voice problem called echolia from hitting my neck on a tree limb when i was 16, now im 20 and i deal with the pain everyday, constantly wondering if someone is looking at me twitch.

marijane helps.

good luck to all.
