Chlorine - How long to evaporate.

Got 5 gallons of water, how long does it take for the chlorine to evaporate. Where I live they dont put to much in it, a good thing, but still got some that needs to evaporate. So if I stirr couple times an hour, how long you recon it takes?

I don’t even bother stirring....just let my 5 gallons sit 24 hours. I doubt it’s even necessary to be honest as most plants at my house grow fine with tap water.

Some people like to use an air stone to oxygenate the water too. Just another option.

Just as an fyi, I would double-check your city's water standards and test results.

If they add ammonia and chlorine to the water supply, that makes chloramine, not chlorine. Chlorine evaporates, chloramine doesn't. So if you really want to treat it you need to pick up an aquarium water treatment kit. It's cheap and a few drops neutralizes several gallons of water.

For what it's worth, my drinking water is treated with chloramine and my stuff grows more or less okay, so it's not deadly or anything.

I think the RO water is more of an 'advanced grower' type nice-to-have, but not strictly necessary. If your lawn is okay, your plants will be too.

I have been growing for a while three weeks or so with tap water without doing this but I honestly didn’t think about it.

I only do it when making teas and lactobacillus so the microorganisms and bacterium will take in saying thays I just turn on the pump for an hour and forget it then add the goodies, but never in my watering it's silly stuff.

Mine is 10% of average so it’s ok but if I must use it I let it sit a day or more and aerate it. I prefer rain water as I grow organically and brew teas. If not, I don’t think it would harm anything. Applies to Chlorine only.

I decant my water like wine (I actually use a decanter, just cause I haven't even of those than jugs haha)... if it's good enough for the lady of the house it's good enough for all the ladies in the house!

Seriously though, if the chlorine isn't gone after 24 hours of just sitting then neither your nor your plants should be ingesting it.

Keep doing it and don't think about it. It's unnecessary bullshit like checking runoff pH.
Fuck im glad one of you older members also believes this cause when I started I read all about it and so I stressed out about it but never seemed to change or matter anyway so I gave up. And my plants grow the damn same.

Look under a leaky faucet outside. Even in the desert it's a jungle in the spot.

Here is something better to do ( 24 hours prior to use ) ....

Hookup a small air pump , drop in an Airstone .... let percolate, aerate , oxygenate.
Whether it’s for straight water or feed mixing.

Your plants will get out of their pots and hug you ...:weed:

Depends where they live, could be worse off if their co2 content is bad dont wanna load the water with carbon aswell.

Actually......

Tap water has more shit in it FAR WORSE than chloride. As others stated , straight from tap to plant , no hocus pocus needed .

I ONLY mentioned bubbler as a way to help with that question , I do it when mixing Nutes.
I mix a feed ... let it bubble overnight ... PH in the morning .... give to plants.

Simple .

Municipal water has things you will NEVER REMOVE.

Pesticides, waste , bio sludge , runoff , parasitic organisms , benzene , petrochemicals, dog shit ,
Corpses , medical waste , tampons , hobo urine , lead , ammonia , diazinon, weed killer , arsenic ,
Rust , boat waste , fish cum , ....... should I keep going .

If you pulled a water report, you might be very surprised.

Enjoy your glass of tea.

I strongly recommend everyone access the report on their water. I say so on RIU regularly. Available online for most water utilities. Excellent information including levels of calcium and magnesium. Then you can tell if you need to supplement.
