I went to college with a kid that was part Indian. He had his tuition paid for in full and his books. He dropped out of the program 2 years in a row. The program I was in had 300 people apply for 35 seats. They had to accept him he was the only Indian to apply. It really disgusted me.

I dream of a time when a man is accepted for the content of his character and not the color of his skin.

Do we owe him twice? I'm part Indian, didn't know it until a few years ago. My grandmother was too embarrassed about it to tell anyone what she was. Do I get a refund.
i think it depends on what % you are, but if i were you i would see if i were entitled to anything. who knows maybe you can stop paying taxes or something, that would be awesome.

WHAT!!! They don't pay taxes???? OMG, I need to get a certified genealogist right away.

I won't have to move to the reservation would I? lol.

I know if you do that the government will be going to be right up your arse, so I'll pass. But I would like to know if they do or don't pay taxes.

Edit: I understand I'm about 25%. I have American Indian on both sides from different tribes.

Damn, WW you are funny! Can't help but to giggle. Thought of you and Beardo the other day when I was shopping. Post cereal has come out with a Churro cereal. The people in the cereal aisle at Meijers must have thought the cheese done fell off of my cracker. I actually laughed out loud when I saw the Churro cereal.

Being of native descent and having native relatives I can tell you that all Natives who work pay taxes. Just like everyone else. They don't pay property tax if they live on a reservation and some reservations don't have sales tax.

i just looked it up and you're correct. here in canada things are different, our natives pay no taxes what so ever if they live on a reserve.

I live in northern Ontario, within a fifteen minute drive of a reserve. Everyone goes there to get tobbacco for cheap (DK's-$4 a pack) because it is untaxed. native peoples also have status cards exempting them from most sales taxes. gas at reserve is also cheaper then gas around the area too, as it is untaxed, however you need a status card in order to purchase it.
