Bulbs... I feel you always get less than what's promised. It's one reason I haven't tried High Powered Bulbs... from purchase cost to running cost to how often you need to replace them... seems like too much cost for me... upfront cost anyway. But I work small... I don't know if 150w HPS bulb would be better than the 150 LED I use right now, given my space, and since I am not overly concerned with the biggest possible yields... the math works out in my favor in terms of savings/returns so I'm not concerned... my bulbs are cheaper, last longer, and still produce way more than I spent on or running them (in terms of weed cost if I bought it).
As to cheap bulbs vs not in the same kind... well, IDK... technically bulbs are cheap, in terms of manufacturing cost. You pay a lot for the company name and whatever assurances they provide (life hours etc). When choosing my light budget was of serious concern, so I bought a "cheap" LED light (300w, 150 veg/150bloom or full 300 mixed) and it's been doing great so far. We'll see how it holds up. I think it's important to shop around. There are inexpensive options out there that are not cheap (to me cheap means not only low cost, but low quality... while inexpensive is just low cost).
