CFL's are stupid. I took them down.

I dunno what a jethro box is but if its plastic I'd say HID might be risky. My veg box is a medium sized plastic rubbish bin with one 65w and one 25w CFL glowing and growing. I have an 80mm case fan take away the heat and once my cuttings have rooted they go in there and love it. There is no way I could use anything else but CFLs in there. HID would melt it and a shop lights are too bulky.
I certainly need to increase my airflow some, thats planned after this harvest. However, if a 250w alone causes those temps in your box, then I need to stick with cfl. In my box, which is where I veg and flower, I have a hard enough time keeping the plants from burning. With the cfl I have to keep them at least 4 inches from the lights. Yes, I know more ventilation will help.

Well I don't have the experience to say either way BUT I know that I only used cfl's before. Thats is the only thing I knew but I got lots of them and it was for a closet grow so it worked for me.
Now that I want a grow room, the cfl's are really now a joke to me. :-|
With the amount of re-positioning you have to do while growing, its a real pain-in-the-butt.
Plus, with all the new technology out there in lighting, I have to agree that for a grow room, cfl's aren't the best choice.

Just my 2 cents.:mrgreen::blsmoke:
those aren't T5's. those are $1.39 shop lights. :hump::hump::hump:

i agree on the small grow thing. like i said they might be cool for box growers but they get way to hot for me.

I have to agree with ya fdd,,I have only 4 -42 watters in a small space of 18 inch by 18 inch by 2 and a half feet high,,and it takes a small fan and a bathroom exhaust good for 45cfm's to keep the heat in check,,whereas with the couple of floros I have vegged with before(which worked great)needed no heat removal,,when I setup in my new house,,I believe it will be one of those 8 or 12 light floro setups,,I seen enough and I am sold:hump:

Keep on Growin

I read almost everything in this thread and ive gotta say youre all talking in circles.
HID and HPS growers are raving about their lights being used in big spaces, FL people are happy with cloning where the length of the tubes arent a problem and CFL growers are just tired about people downing them because for their needs, aka spacewise, it is doing fine.
If you want to veg 2 plants, get some CFLs
If your veging 10+ plants like fdd then go ahead and use the FL
If your growing/flowering more than 5 plants and have the space get you HID and HPS

My growbox is like 2x2x2 feet. Cant argue that i should use anything besides CFLs.
Why do i use this space? My room is small as shit and yet this way i can grow enough bud for myself till next harvest.

Nah! I think most of the people said exactly what you are saying valuable.

>>>>CFL's are great for small spaces.<<<<

no, i'm actually saying......they suck! i have them in my kitchen. it takes them a couple minutes to warm up and become fully bright. i have one in the lamp next to my couch. we used to have a three level dimmer switch on the lamp. can't use it now because CFL's don't work properly with dimmer switches. we have them in our bathroom vanity mirror. they start to slowly fade. you can't tell when they are starting to go bad. they just gradually get dimmer. then one day you notice and change them and it's twice as bright. CFL's Suck!!!!!!!!

hahaha such a funny guy ... ever thought of being a comedian :spew:

Well at home 6 ozs would be worth close to $2000 ... and if those 6 ozs were grown in a small box that would fry plants under an HID I dont see anything stupid about it.

I'm feeling pretty baked ... on herb grown under those stupid CFLs ... stupid little things those CFLs ... good for nothing ... did I tell you I was baked :blsmoke:
6 0z are 2000,i dont know were you live but someone must be getting rich.so you ever invite your buddies over for a weekend bake and bbq,and you supply the stash.

High grade herb costs between 250 and 350 depending on the time of year. Its pretty much been that price for as long sa I can remember. My buddies love MJ but there is no way we could smoke an ounce in one sitting.
