put the back of you hand under the light....if its to uncomfortable for you. its to hot for your plants.
i run 105 watt bulb cfls and they are adjusted about 3 inches off the canopy.

good luck

best to get an oscillating fan....move that air over your plants. try to get that temp down to at least 82. ever bit helps with a lower temp.

Contrary to what most say i wouldn't put it no closer than 2 inches even when i was using 23w cfls trust me them shits get hot enough to burn some plants.

i thought about that as i was tending to my garden ring , it had me sweating a little after i was done.im going to turn the fan on to a higher level and move my lights further away from my children.also, the fan does oscillate..any other random lighting tips guys?

lol yep,the cfl SIDES should be facing the plants since the light are more effective that way

2-3 inches should be good

even then you can still burn some plants -- i just burned one of my leaf..
