Cashless Society

It's kinda funny the way it works these days. When we get paid by cashier check, or Paige's payroll, we just take pics of the front and back of the check, and write "For mobile deposit only" and sign it.. deposited via the Credit Union's app. Never see the cash. It's all "invisible" money.

I have a friend that owns a bakery... she's out about $800 a month due to Visa, Mastercard, or whatever to do the transaction......I can understand that they have to pay people to process some of this, but really? 3%??
When I asked my roof contractor what forms of payment they took, they said that the credit card companies charge them 3% so if I wanted to pay with a card, they would pass that cost on to me.

You almost have to!... If you're getting $100,000 a month in revenue, you're out $3,000 to cover that charge...and that's not including your expenses to generate that $100,000 in sales....labor, materials, etc.

The country store down the road from me only takes cash and he has an old fashioned tab system so you can run a monthly tab as long as he knows you. Just pay him up once a month in cash and you're good. He also barters for stuff which is really cool. I much rather pay in cash and hate how electronic our money has gotten. It's just too easy to track and tax into oblivion this way.

Funny story... During the hight of the Pandemic. We've always tied all of our Cannabis Business to another bank (credit card) to a Chase card in fear that our Cannabis business would be tied to our personal account. So, we would rack up like $8000 a month on the Chase card, and drive an hour every month to pay it off in cash. I walked into the Chase Bank in OKC fully masked, sunglasses, a hat, and latex gloves, and an envelope with about $8000 in cash. I walked in and they were like "Hey! welcome to Chase!, how may we help you today?"... I said "I need to make my monthly payment" .. they took care of me, but 2 years prior, im sure I would have had security with me on the ground with my arms behind my back and cuffed...funny how times change.

We do get paid around $45 bucks a month for maintaining a certain amount of money in our checking account...so.. IDK. Im very versed in the financial world being a Finance Manager for years, but it just seems like lately, cash is not around anymore... not like it used to anyways.
Yep.... it's a money grab..In a Dealership, if someone wanted to put down $10,000 on a credit card, we would charge them the 3% to cover costs of the CC charge... I think we had a $5K minimum before we started charging. Never had anyone turn it down.
Auto F&I manger?

We recently had a hurricane here, lost power for 3 1/2 days, some folks won't have power for another week in some communities here. None of the banks had generators and almost none of the gas stations. Most businesses who could open can't take electronic payments and their cash registers won't work. If we should have another Carrington event (solar flare) we would be screwed with the electrical grid and internet down all-over North America and it would be that way for months, if not years. Almost all electronic devices would be fried including computers and the power grid transformers fried, they don't stock many of those.

Another good reason why a cashless society won't happen soon is corrupt politicians, they like to get paid bribes in cash. Electronic payment systems don't work very well for criminal activity, so don't expect the republicans to do anything about it! Also, if you are rich and want to splash power and ego around, nothing beats a wad of cash, or a hundred-dollar bill for better service or to cut in front of the line. Shit cops only take cash, don't try and buy a cop or a judge with a check or a bank card.

We are all seduced by convenience, tap to pay and banking at home is quicker and easier, but it has its issues and is a hazard in emergency situations. To the super rich, cash is for the peasants.

I think you should keep like 100 bucks in cash readily available, more if you want...I just go get another 100 once I use that. It's handy for when your out and about and want to grab a Kona ice or whatever from a food vendor.

I am kind of a privacy weirdo, so would like cash to remain an option, though yeah...I don't really have a need. Crypto is foolish to me, it is like turning all your real money into video game gold.

I do marvel at the homeless guys...sorry man, no...we don't have any change, maybe get a venmo. People will scan your QR code.

Edit: as a kid I would sell someone a gram or two of weed for 100 camel bucks, or whatever it cost for a zippo out of the camel catalog.

Yeah. At first I was thinking, "wtf, they should just add that cost to their estimate, because everyone pays in plastic these days", but then again their quote was $8k less than the other estimate I got, so I wasn't gonna complain about a few hundred bucks. I haven't gotten the new roof yet, but I did write a check for the deposit. It was weird writing a check, and I had to go and find them in my miscellaneous stuff.

All y’all deviated preverts ought to be lightnin’-struck ashamed of making a thread dedicated to Crotchless Salacity in the decent polite place we keep here. Probably in a crime against God’s Kingdom to stimulate your sin-enlarged apostate glands.

Yer probably naked as Adam under all your strange modern clothes with no crotch, as well. Mark my words — hellfire awaits all you backsliding deviated crotch-defiling preverts! All y’all need Jesus.

Not all cash users are poor
Just saying
I use cash as much as possible. I'm a leave no trace guy. I won't even sign up for the rewards cards at the grocery stores because all your buying habits are then up for grabs, Oh you smoke 3 cartons a month or drink a fifth a day, or 2 12pacs every weekend. Your health insurance or auto insurance companies or future employers might be very interested in what you consume. How about birth control in RED states?..

I find it super interesting that you have (justified and understandable) privacy concerns when it comes to this sort of thing, but not when you're behind the wheel of an AI driven vehicle.
