Carbon Filter Setup: HELP

So I have those professional style carbon filters; Can 33 with 6 inch can fan and I have hooked it up to the fan, but It seems to me that all it does is make the room hotter.

Around the carbon filter is the cotton lining and when I put my hand close to it I feel very little air... I dont understand why..

I cant hang the fan from the ceiling cause I cant find the beam( even with a stud finder) and the 2x4 wont stay drilled to the ceiling so it sits on the floor.

Wish I could post pics but cant find my usb cable....

Say what? lol

I have the fan sucking the air in and having it pass through the filter... its only week one and Im afraid that it wont do its job come week 4....

there should be a cfm if im correct on the fan, it should be greater than or equal to the filter intake capability. Plus it has to be strong enough to force it out a duct, with backdraft ..

put it this way, for zero odor in flower, the room needs to recylce every five seconds. I doubt any fan can do that, an impeller is a must imo

The fan is 424 cfm's. I dont see anything about the carbon filter's specs though.

I thought that once I bought this and setup it up I wouldnt have any problems...lol

i to have one ,but running thru my light it does give off heat but not much i think,very much helps with smell but not only thing ul need ,i have ozone gen. that i keep upstairs to an that thing works great ,(grow room basement). was thinking of geting another carbon filter i have 4" wanted bigger but kind of pricey. the ozone gen works A-!, ,need good overall air movement for filter to work at its peak

If the fan is in recirc mode, you can exceed the cfm rating on the can filter. If you are exausting air out of the room with the can filter, you will need to stay with in the parameters of the can filter specs. The carbon needs time to scrub the air before it leaves the room. I properly set up fan and filter can eliminate all of the odors from a grow room. the key is to keep the grow room under negative pressure which insures all air leaving the room is going through the carbon first... as far as the impeller comments, i have no idea what he is talking about.. can fan brand has can fan fan and filters that go together....

4 smell i just spent more time sealing my room air an smell tight ,i look at like can never do to much for smell, no smell for me an my rooms packed flowering too... good luck to you

Yea thas what I have, the combo that they sell. So you say that I should have the fan inside the room and the filter outside? I mean Im planning on having 24 plants in a 5 x10 foot area.

To be truthful I really dont care if my house smells. I live by myself. Im just concerned that it might exit the house.

no, there are los of ways to set them up. If you are in recirc mode, the fan and the filter are inside the grow room just circulating air in the room. This mode eliminates about 80% of the smell towards the last few weeks. The other method which depresurizes the room, is the fan and filter are in the room, but you have flex duct hooked to the exaust of the fan and exausted out of the room. This method insures that all air leaving the room is scrubbed. The first method will still let smell out if the room is not tight, or under positive pressure. does this make sense?

Yes. Is it normal though for you to feel little air coming through the cotton of the filter while it is working?

Thanks for explaining it. You cant put a price on piece of mind.

yes, you can feel some air. Please note on the specs for recirc mode you need the can fan 6HO, NOT the standard can fan. If you have the standard one, its set up to exuast. Most peeps i belive would run the exaust through there light hoods and out of the room, killing two birds with one stone, heat and smell. good luck!

well, that fan is 170 cfm, which is just a tad high for the filter, but i dont see that really being a problem. the reason you feel so little air movement around the filter is the filter has a lot of surface area for the air to pull through wich "dilutes" the amount of pressure you would feel. How does the exaust feel coming out of the fan?

but... how do you have a 4" fan hooked to a can 33 filter? it only has a flange avalible for a 6" and a 8". if the fan is not sealed with the flange provided or duct tape, it will leak at the joint of the fan and filter and decrease performance.

I have it wrapped around securely with duct tape so I dont want to destroy the seal.

I have air being sucked through the fan and when my hand is near it almost sucks it in so its working good, I have a 25 foot duct attached to as well.

My temp in the room is about 85-8 when the light is on to 75 when its off....could that affect the performance?
