Carbon filter + hood = confused

so this could and probably is a stupid question but I have to ask because I'm over thinking it. If you have your inline and hood set up so that it is

fan+ducting+hood+ducting+carbon filter.
How is going to pull all the air through the carbon filter.

Will air not be sucked through the opening for the light bulbs causing it to smell outside of the tent? Making it not stealth at all. Sorry noob question with millions of posts already but I need this to be scent free per Mrs.bowhunter

I pull air through my hood in the tent and push it out the carbon filter outside of the tent. No smell.

Hood>ducting>fan>filter

Filter - fan - hood - exhaust duct

Most can push or pull, but a lot are more efficiently when you pull through them then push. And you actually use the pre filter as a pre filter

I'm a noob, to growing weed, but here's what I'm leaning toward from all my research/reading.
Having your fan inside your tent only adds to the heat you're trying to remove from the tent.
If you think pulling hot air through a fan will shorten it's life (which seems a likely possibility), then the fan operating in the warmer environment inside the tent should also be of concern.
The information I've found leads me to believe most fans pull better than they push.
All the "pre filters" that I've seen, were designed by the mfg to go on the outside of the filter. This suggest the mfg designed the filter to be used with air entering the filter from the outside, otherwise the "pre filter" is useless. If you don't intend to use a pre filter, I doubt it makes much if any difference.

I prefer to attach the fan directly to the filter and push the air through the filter. I personally wouldn't want the excess carbon dust blowing through my light fixture. It will also give you more room in the tent.

You do have glass on your hoods right??

You'll always get different answers when it comes to this question, but imo it's preferable to blow cold air over the light opposed to pulling hot air out. So you would go filter>fan>hood>exhaust, with the straightest and shortest amount of ducting possible between

Separate the two. One fan each. Scrubber has its own fan. Hood has its own 6< inch.


A. Don't pull hot gross air through your bulb/reflector( I even use heavy duty insulated tubing. see pic)
B. The scrubber removes about a % of cfm not including every other factor
C. A piece of carbon comes loose, goes through and nails your $100 hortilux eye 1000w bulb.
D. Its more efficient. Theirs no argument except cost vs ability to save the money for both.
E. Space an issue? Suck out of the tent and have the scrubber outside scrubbing air into the tents in.
F. One failure doesn't mean fail another component. Just bad technique and planning.

Best of luck. Everyone got their style so this is my two cents. But I really am a firm believer.

No. Its not dumb. I can't put things together without visual tangible items either. And asking questions makes sure you never get to week 8 of flower and blow a line or run hot.

I was thinking of this and I saw so many posts saying don't push through the filter. Doesn't make a difference eh?

So maybe put the filter out of the tent and have the fan sucking all hot air directly through hood

This is what I have going now. but this is a tiny 150w with the room to keep everything in tent, my 600watt is on the way I'm trying to save space and still be sufficient for when my test plant is done

I've seen alot do this and have no issues. Its packed activated carbon with no directional associated to it.. Unless its a special scrubber. But what you have is fine.

Your going to run short of space man! Is it a mother or are you flowering?

If you do that you create neg pressure in your hood and it WILL pull odor air outside your tent. So no. You cant if you run it through a hood. You can do it if its a separate system.

You have to push into air cooled hoods.

9 days into flower she got stunted and had some other issues well I worked out my climate and exhaust but the stems a tree trunk now hahaha.
