Can't Grow Big Autos? Help Please

Hey all,

So a couple things. I'm having trouble getting a good yield from Auto flowers. I've tried multiple strains and seem to have the same problem each time. I start with 18/6 light and use Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil mixed with perlite and peat moss. The plant grows in veg stage for about 4 weeks then it turns to flower which I understand is what happens with Autos but it never gets a chance to branch out and develop multiple bud sites causing it to just basically be one large stem and thats it.

I feel like im stuck between a rock and a hard place because I tried using Urb nutrients to give a better yield. My photoperiod flowers love it. But it was giving the Autos nute burn. So basically I read that you cant really give too much nutrients to Autos. I also read that you shouldnt transplant autos and just start them in the big pot which I do usually transplant them at least once.

So if I can't transplant and I can't give nutrients, I don't know what else I could do so that I get a better yield?
Also the lighting is fine because I dont have these problems with the photoperiod strains.

I think a lot of people go with 20/4 or 24/0 light schedule.
I hear growers top and LST autos these days too.
A lot of it will be the genetics.

Not my bag but there are some solid auto growers on here. Im sure some of them will give you some pointers.
Isn't there a section specifically for autos?

Try Coco. More forgiving in a shorter time span.

Bigger autos come from DWC / COCO / HEMPY BUCKETS .

Hempy bucket run ... 2 gallon sand pails / 3:1 perlite - Vermiculite. ( dyna gro )
Or 3-5 gallon Lowe’s plastic buckets . Simple drain to waste.

FFOF :

I grow a lot of autos and find simple FFOF / PERLITE mix effective..... however I do not use bottled Nutes anymore with FFOF since it will carry an auto fine . Later stages I just top dress with more FFOF and water in. Calmag occasionally if needed. But straight soil mostly. I plant straight into final container size. Auto will acclimate quickly and not be overwhelmed by introducing MORE NUTES on top of a hot soil. Mephisto makes good stout autos ... I run speed , sweet , Dutch passion , heavyweight and victory most recently. But there are many other good breeders.

These are FFOF plants with LST only for training.

It’s a learning thing ... don’t get discouraged. You will find that the simple things are usually the hardest to do. I fried my fair share of plants over the years.

Many growers frown on autos , but they have a place. It’s STILL WEED for crying out loud... lol.
I don’t grow for the masses ... just myself , wifey, my pit CASH and a few buddies. So I really just keep my own jars filled and autos fit my needs.

There are very good auto strains out there ( better refined ) than say 20 years ago. You still get wonky shit at times , so do regulars. Try Mephisto / HSO.

There are plenty of bunk breeding too .... every one of RQS I ran was a sad plant.
California Connection was straight shit. Barney’s is also another hit or miss .... mostly miss.

Reach out thru the auto section for some recommendations ( strains ).
I like sour livers , blueberry , BKR , Stomper .... and of course Sour D or Super Sour D.
