Question about soil. Can you re-use it? I'm using FF ocean forrest with perlite (and considering doing a 50/50 blend of of + light warrior then adding perlite.) Once I clip my harvest could I use the soil over again for my next grow?

I ask because this shit is expensive, and since it doesn't have any nutes I thought maybe it was re-usable. It seems wasteful to just throw it away after every harvest.
.
SelfSupplied..... Yes, I reuse all my soil, you should too.
.
I take the soil after the finish of one run, throw it in the compost barrel and rejuvenate it. After a thorough composting, it gets mixed into new pots, with a fresh run of peat moss, pertilite and some worm castings.
.
I mix it 50 percent compost, 30 percent peat moss, 10 percent pertilite and 10 percent worm castings.
.
Keep it Real...Organic.... & always reuse & recycle when possible.

I no longer re use my soil on my cannabis plants.
Any pathogens or disease that may start would be passed into the next soil and it would be easy to ruin an entire harvest over 125$ worth of soil and additives. We recycle our soil on to the earth and compost it into our veggie gardens.

So are you saying that a single 600W hps can flower a good 5'x5' if canopied properly?
No problem at all.

Good yields in that space would be a pound based on 4 plants at 4 zipps and I know you young cab experts could even top that.

Ok so as far as grow books I can't really recommend any because its rare that a person is a good writer and a GREAT grower.
I can recommend you read every single post in this forum

TGA Online Growguide - BreedBay

Its my online grow school
I am slowly building it over here IE like this post I am doing now to teach you guys some yielding and quality secrets.

WOW!! What a coincidence!! I agree with what you say about writers and growers rarely existing in the same person. Because I don't doubt that J. Cervantes might be able to grow some killer bud, BUT his book the inside growers medical is full of contradictions. It's hard to decipher whats valuable info and whats inaccurate. Well, this is even more of a coincidense because if you are the breeder TGA, I recently ordered some of your Astro Queen and Pandoras Box frim hempdepot. I bookmarked your Online Grow guide, and would like to know if you can suggest specific feeding guides, temps, veg and flower time for these two strains. I'm an in soil (ProMix BX) indoor noobie, with a 12 sq ft area, powered by a 600w MH for now (will switch to HPS when flowering) and I believe I will have exhaust and ventilation covered. I can fit eight 5 gal nursery pots in my area. My goal is to harvest around mid to late February, and supply myself with enough to last from march to october, so I don't have to deal with high temps in a closet grow over the summer. I'd like to harvest at least 15oz of quality bud. This would allow me to burn 1/2 an oz a week comfortably until it starts to cool off again. FYI, My next order is going to include Agent Orange and maybe one of the Jacks or just double up on one of yours I already have. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm open to any advice and willing to be coached to a supreme harvest.

Thanks,
Digger

I'm young . . . in a "60's the new 40's" kinda way! I get what you're saying 1000% and agree. That's how I used to grow. Now I'm messing with "not" topping, shaping (much), etc. for my first time ever, after 20-40 trained grows. From what I'm learning with my current grow, I'm guessing I'll be returning to my old ways. It's too hard to get a bunch of separate plants adjusted for good bud growth/light distribution, especially if your space is limited to, for example, 5'X5".
Of course, as a lifelong organic gardener, I hate it when plants touch one another, something I'd have to change if ever I wanna do a real SOG.

WHat's a compost barrel consist of? How long does it take to compost?

Can I get a holla'brotha'what on how long it takes for soil and roots to compost? I'll get one of those opaque rubbermaid tubs with a lid and just toss my used soil in that bad boy, how long does it need to be in there until it's re-usable?

Greens, browns, moisture and air. Mix well.
How long depends on how close to ideal your conditions are and how much you're making.

I just add and mix, the way I mix bread dough or pastry doughs, it's a "by feel" kind of thing. I want the soil to slightly stick together, a bit "crumbly", so that it can be lightly packed but not leave your hands or tools wet (that's WAY too wet). Make sense? If you have a moisture meter then at least halfway up (, green zone "Moist", by the analog indicator I have) should do it.

This may explain my odd propensity to move them so NOTHING TOUCHES. Anything.

Seamaiden "This may explain my odd propensity to move them so NOTHING TOUCHES" . . .[/quote said:
Mites LOVE leave bridges. Bottom line, there is no tomato strain (that I've ever come across) that recommends less that 2-3 feet between plants. I usually get 200 pounds off 8 plants. Sure, Scrog and SOG work great, but who knows what might increase if they didn't have to touch? Most crowded plants genus produce less than they would if they had a little more space, ie:weren't touching. IMO.
:blsmoke:
Don't the biggest buds always seem to come from the biggest, unfettered plants?

I will find that out, and more soonly as we work on the indoor grow room. Our plan is to dig out a planting bed, since we've got so much space, and work it that way. Since it's clay and rock I'm not sure about the drainage (though I am sure about the utility of a jackhammer to break it up), but this red clay has plenty of nutrients once they're unlocked by microbes and worms. And I KNOW we've got wormses!

Sure wouldn't mind getting a planting bed that had 30 years' worth of horse manure under it! No sirree, wouldn't mind that at all.

Lets do some recycling... it's good for the forum, new growers, old growers and growers set in their ways - to learn new things.... bump.....

Digger this explains how I provide nutrients for my plants.

https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/44686-subcools-super-soil.html

I have seen great results using pure blend pro bloom and pure blend pro grow starting early in bud using there weak mix and advancing to there aggressive mix.
I am more of a top dress type guy if my plants need more go juice.

Whats up Sub,

Thanks for responding and for the links. I'm actually a loyal Breedbay follower now, I came here to respond to an email notification I received and thats it. I've read a few of your articles about how to raise a garden and I learn something everyday. I also read your super soil directions and before I read that, I made up my own "super soil" using guano's and kelp. It was reassuring to see I was at least at the right train station, just maybe not on the right track just yet, but I've got my ticket.

Regarding my nutirents, I've settled on the FoxFarm line of products and really I'm just trying to watch the garden and let it tell me what it needs. Currently, i believe I'm going through a magnesium deficiency; I have the leaf yellowing between the veins and rust colored spots on the lower leaves; so I treated them with epsom salt and I'll see if that helps.

I asked a question in breedbay, but I guess I can ask you directly on this thread, what are your indica dominant strains and what is the order of potency?

thanks for everything and sharing all your knowledge,
Digger

Not for a few weeks and your soil isn't the best judging by the signs of yellowing on such a small plant.
Let it grow and post up again I will help ya get it topped properly :)
