Cannabutter Basics - Penny for your thoughts

Hey all,
I've only produced two rounds of butter, and amazing the difference between the two. Penny for everyone's thoughts on refinement ideas!

Butter #1
  1. I decarb for 25 minutes at 220 degrees, then used my air fryer to bake the product
  2. 1 measure shake, 1 measure unsalted butter, 1 measure water method (1:1:1)
  3. Baked at 220 for 2 hours
  4. Product was POWERFUL. Final test, 1/8 TSP was powerful enough I was good all night.

Butter #2
  1. Decarb for 25 minutes at 220 degrees
  2. Used the 1:1:1 method
  3. Baked at 180 degrees for three hours
  4. Final product is weaker. 1/2 TSP makes me feel very chill, but not euphoric
My question... does the baking process significantly alter the power of the product? I went with the "low and slow" method with butter #2, but by far, the final product is weaker than #1
I'm also considering using coconut oil in the future too. For now, the butter works well though.
Thoughts?

* also, strictly speaking, you're only half-decarbing during your decarb and using your infusion to decarb the rest. I'd decarb more effectively up-front then infuse at a lower temp for however long you want.

thought #2, temps are too high. youre cooking off the cannabinoids.
thought #3, coconut oil has so much more fat, i definitely recommend giving it a try. Butter (unless you use the nice imported stuff) is almost wasteful imo. I do an 80/20 mix of oil to irish butter because the butter bakes nice in brownies/cookies

I agree mostly. If I'm using butter it's full fat local or import stuff (Kerry Gold, or a few other Europeans are usually on the shelf at our grocery). Brownies you really don't have to worry too much about cooking off, because while the oven is warm (usually 325-350f), the brownie batter never gets horribly hot unless you overcook them.

**I tend to de-carb at 240 for 40-50 minutes depending on the method of decarb used. If I'm doing the oven/ball jar I go longer because it takes a while to heat the glass and the air in the jar. While if I'm doing it in the oven on a sheet-pan, 40min. Lately I've been using a Levo and I go 45m because it doesn't time until the chamber is up to temp.

I agree mostly. If I'm using butter it's full fat local or import stuff (Kerry Gold, or a few other Europeans are usually on the shelf at our grocery). Brownies you really don't have to worry too much about cooking off, because while the oven is warm (usually 325-350f), the brownie batter never gets horribly hot unless you overcook them.

i follow a few folks on IG that focus their efforts 100% on edibles, theyve done so much more research than i ever will and one of these people has been campaigning pretty aggressively that everyone is overcooking their edibles and oil/butter, usually starting with the decarb, unnecessarily burning off more and more cannabinoids throughout the process. including anyone using a levo machine. You still get high, but with a diminished spectrum of cannabinoids allegedly. Not saying theyre right and youre wrong, just some food for thought.

The Levo allows you to pick your time and your temperature, so if that's happening, it's not the machine's fault intrinsically. Its another tool to do what you want. I've decarbed enough batches at this point to have trial-and errored my way into what has worked best for what I've made.

Also, since a de-carb involves not only temps but time, saying you're decarbing too hot without discussing that in relation to how long you do it is fairly meaningless.

fair enough on the levo, 160 a minimum temp doesnt seem very high at all but what do i know.

to be fair to these folks their posts had numbers and data and im not doing their opinions justice lol. I searched for the posts but cant find em. Oh well.

I generally take IG/YT folks not very seriously anyway. ;) There's some reasonably good science out there on decarbing which is worth anyone interested to dig in.
