Although John Candy has no holiday. As we do for a dead person, there's my political question are we going to continue to have a Victoria Day? Are we going to break away as Canadians. The royal family only cost us money. Most visited country, can they not pay for their visit. I got to pay when I go there. Looking for prediction, how long will the king be king? Will Charles at last policies, how long will Charles live to be?
He's some psychological security blanket for the british...I guess they think that this morally reprehensible, inbred, entitled asshole can somehow save them if things get really bad? I have no idea how they rationalize that to themselves, but what other explanation could there be? He has NO useful purpose in the entire world, and the upkeep on the royal family could fund several social programs, that would help people that at least have a possibility of offering something in return. All the entire royal family offers is tabloid headlines and outrageous expense.

Victoria day will continue as usual - everyone loves a paid day off. Doubtful we'll break away anytime soon. My crystal ball has Chuck as king till he's dead - not sure when that'll be.

If there was anything interesting, unique, special or cool about that family, perhaps one would follow them. Simply not interested in someone who portrays themselves as royal - it doesn't align with egalitarian views.

We have 2 things in common, ganja as well as the lack of Need for Royals. Portraying as the highest and best of society. False

We develop near indestructible currency and high value coins only to destroy it all so we can put the new head freeloader’s face on it.

Long live the king!

Stupid Canadians…
It's not like they're going to toss out what is circulating now and spend millions replacing it. I will be years yet before the $20 will show up with Charles on it and the same for coins.

I understand how it’s done, I read the same article. Currency is still being taken out of circulation and needlessly replaced. When chuckles kicks the bucket, it will be done again with the mugshot of the next inbred, freeloader. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I wonder how much Trudeau’s entourage cost us this week? He’s a lot like Chuck and likes nice things.

I would not insult Alfred E Neuman thus....He has offered humor to the world for decades, and as far as i know, has never cost anyone more than the price of a mad magazine...
OK use open AI to come up with something inappropriate like merging Alfred and Charlie. You can't slander or insult the dead and Alfred was never alive. Besides, Trump made Alfred obsolete when reality became stupider than fiction, likewise he exceeded The Onion in absurdity. MAD could replace Alfred with Trump on their cover and perhaps should.

To Vicky Eatrides, Chairperson and CEO of the CRTC:

Last week, Egale Canada and a prominent Canadian leader for trans rights and inclusion were featured on the infamously incendiary Tucker Carlson Tonight program on the American Fox News Channel. The coverage aimed to provoke hatred and violence against 2SLGBTQI communities, particularly those who are Two Spirit, trans, nonbinary and gender non-conforming (2STNBGN).

This programming is in clear violation of Canadian broadcasting standards and has no place on Canadian broadcasting networks. Carlson made false and horrifying claims about 2STNBGN people, painting them as violent and dangerous. During the segment, Carlson made the inflammatory and false claim that trans people are “targeting” Christians. To position trans people in existential opposition to Christianity is an incitement of violence against trans people that is plain to any viewer. The segment also contained a range of other malicious misinformation about 2STNBGN people, including that trans people are given preferential treatment in employment and other opportunities. This is clearly an attempt to stoke resentment against 2STNBGN people.

Furthermore, Egale’s name and logo were used in connection with our recent open letter which noted “an exponential rise in anti-2SLGBTQI, hate-fueled movements and protests”. Carlson stated, “This is a lie,” calling into question Egale’s credibility. Lies and hateful propaganda are not news programming.

The List of non-Canadian programming services and stations authorized for distribution in Canada (the List) is administered by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). The CRTC is responsible for all aspects of the Canadian broadcasting system, including ensuring that it serves the public interest. Though the CRTC does not issue licenses to non-Canadian broadcasters, it has established that non-Canadian broadcasters must be held to the same standard as Canadian channels.

Specifically, Canadian broadcasters can be fined or even lose their licenses for broadcasting “any abusive comment or abusive pictorial representation that, when taken in context, tends to or is likely to expose an individual or a group or class of individuals to hatred or contempt on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age or mental or physical disability” (Television Broadcasting Regulations, section 5(b); emphasis added).

Egale has experienced firsthand the hate that is generated from a single segment aired on Fox News in Canada. We cannot begin to imagine the broader impacts and potential rise in hate that might result from allowing more content like this to air in Canada. The CRTC is obligated to investigate whether the continued broadcasting of Fox News on Canadian television is in line with the Television Broadcasting Regulations. People in Canada deserve to know that the news broadcast on Canadian airwaves is reliable and objective, and marginalized groups must be protected from malicious propaganda.

According to section 18(3) of the Broadcasting Act, the CRTC “may hold a public hearing, make a report, issue any decision and give any approval in connection with any complaint or representation made to the Commission or with any other matter within its jurisdiction under this Act if it is satisfied that it would be in the public interest to do so.” The public interest clearly demands a consultation on the appropriateness of the continued inclusion of Fox News on the List.

Given the rising levels of anti-trans hate around the world and the potential for segments like the one recently aired on Fox News, there needs to be a serious Canadian conversation about the broadcasting of Fox News in Canada. The Television Broadcasting Regulations represent a democratic consensus on what we do and do not accept on our airwaves, and we have agreed that we do not tolerate abuse and misinformation. Fox News must be held to these same standards in Canadian broadcasting. We are calling on the CRTC to begin public consultations on the removal of Fox News from the List of non-Canadian programming authorized for distribution in Canada.

Sincerely,

Helen Kennedy

Too many Canadians watch Fox. The concerning thing is, they have to pay for it.

Yep, and they charge the highest carriage fees, let them complain about it after they are taken off the air. Here is the text of my submission to the CRTC:

Foxnews also caused the deaths of hundreds of Canadians with covid and antivaxx disinformation. It is not a news network, but masquerades as one, it is a propaganda outlet for the republican party, fascism for power and profit. They have created an alternate universe in America divorced from reality and spinning facts out of all recognition, it is every bit as bad as RT and Russian propaganda and often mirrors it and sells the propaganda of a hostile foreign power at war with an allied liberal democracy. They have illegally provided billions of US dollar's worth of free advertising to the Republican party in America over decades and have warped the political landscape with false culture wars that they completely make up.

They are a real and present danger to any country they operate in and promote hatred against minorities of all descriptions to attract a base of racists and bigots. Their viewers regularly are driven to acts of violence by the content and hosts of foxnews and we have seen ample and repeated evidence of their socially destructive programing for profit and power. They have no business operating in Canada, fascism and hate should have no home here, to allow them to operate will cause the deaths of Canadians as it does daily in America. Broadcasters should serve us, not kill us or our country for a profit.

China has just been a bunch of busy little pricks, haven't they?

Every time anyone, in any country, catches a chinese national trying to interfere in local politics, they should be publicly sent back to china, with a full page story about why...Maybe they'll eventually figure out that we know what they fuck they're doing, and we aren't fucking happy about it.

They need to feel the pain and any autocracy should pay a price for being criminal assholes when dealing with any liberal democracy and we need to unite against such forms of government and make them pay a premium, free people should not deal with slaves, except to free them. We need to make a decision here and plant the flag of freedom, not just in China's chest either. Maybe not cold war two, but more like we know what you are and will make you pay a price for being assholes and will be constantly in your face about it. However, the more liberal democratic countries we can sign up the better, we were almost there but Trump and the republicans killed the chance to contain China with the TPP.
