Does any of this relate to what I wrote?
You mentioned the time to poison relationships and those were the reasons, everybody is moving shit out of China to other countries. We are entering a new phase of global relations and international interdependency; the liberal democracies are uniting for mutual support and survival and Ukraine was kind of a future template. China is a totalitarian imperialist regime like Russia that violates human rights and is an adversary to human rights and the UN charter when it comes to the right of self-determination. I believe our foreign policies will be to support democracies and not strongmen, the power is with the people in the modern world or should be. That goes for Russia, China and Iran, instead of a mechanism for peace, they turned economic interdependency into weapons of aggression and blackmail.

And we still get much of our stuff from them and it will be like that for the next 10-20 years.

Yep, there's a movement since covid and the war in Ukraine to moderate and lessen global interdependence, especially with places like China. With Russia it's just energy and not a heavy lift. It is the reason they are investing billions onshoring pharmaceutical, chip, rare earth mining and battery production. Why Canadian mining companies can cash in on billions of American government money and the reason for shifting manufacturing from China to other Asian countries and India. I won't happen overnight and our utter dependency on Tawain will go on for years too as we get chip foundries up and running here and in Europe. An attack on Tawain means war, it's pretty straight forward and based more in interests than friendship or liberal democracy for that matter, though that is part of it.

Where is Russia investing billions in pharmaceutical, chip, rare earth mining and battery production? I have been reading Russian news for the last half year and I don't see it. A call had gone out that they want to stock up a four month supply of pharmaceuticals. Rare earth mining? No more than they have going on now. You think Russia want's to get into battery production? They are all in for keeping their carbon based economy as they have lots. They talk about building up their selfreliance but with the corruption there you will not see any success. Where is the cash for Canadian mining coming from? Don't see it on the US side investing in Canada. Tawain is tied to the West, not like they are denying us chips other than the world shortage right now. Where is the billions needed for chip manufacturing going to come from in order to shift production elsewhere?

Russia is fucked, I was speaking of western countries and other liberal democracies. As for American mining money, I posted an article about that in the war thread, we are on a level playing field with US companies for defense money and that is where it is coming from. As for money for chips, I refer you to the American chips act and EU efforts. Recent global supply chain issues have only accelerated this trend and thinking. It is not the end of globalism, but an adjustment.

Can see why I missed your speaking of Western countries.

why does everyone make some leap that my saying trudeau shouldn't have allowed that private communication to leak means that i think he should bend over and let Xi fuck him in the ass? i don't recall saying that...what i recall saying is that world leaders should be able to communicate with each other with a reasonable amount of privacy, in order to facilitate good relations, and that i thought any one leader breaking that thin trust was just making it more difficult for all foreign policy to be smoothly implemented...everyone else said things along the lines of fuck china, fuck Xi, trudeau should have bitch slapped him....all, i'm sure, excellent ambassadorial advice...apparently civility only works one way.
Here is a picture of their "private" communication meeting. The Canadian governments release stated Trudeau brought up media reports about chinese election interference in Canada, and didn't release any of what Xi's response was. I'm hoping you can help me understand how Canada releasing to the press that Trudeau brought up chinese election interference when this picture was taken, is "breaking that thin trust was just making it more difficult for all foreign policy to be smoothly implemented", and not Xi trying to make an example to any smaller country that questions ANYTHING china does?

Isn't that the most frustrating part about politics? Stupid theatrics like that turn moderate citizens away from wanting to be involved in the discussion. I agree with the premise of the question, but why bring up the PM knew about it ten months ago? Is it not reasonable to assume there was some national security information gathering sources/techniques that had to be protected from discussion at the time? And the response was worse, trying to sound clever and own the Cons but sure looks like Libs are hiding something. If I had to place a bet, Pooh bear provided money to both of their parties.

This country could really use someone like Jack Layton right now. I got to see family members that had only ever voted Conservative say they would vote for him (well his party with our system) way back then. Wasn't because they changed there political beliefs, but believed in his leadership.

Mr. Layton's final words to Canadians:
"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world. "

Yes, Jack Layton was a good man and a strong leader but we have choices other than Pollievre and Trudeau. Jugmeet Singh is also a good man and a strong leader. Unfortunately, too many Canadians have a problem voting for someone who wears a turban.

I think it is important to know how money was funneled to them and who they are. Did they know the money was illegal? Did they know it's origin? Who are they and how culpable were they? Any MP who takes foreign money needs to be looked at and if they knew the source, legal action should be taken with real consequences. They wanted policy for money, what policy?

I agree with you 100% and relieved you said him wearing a turban is the issue with too many Canadians and not his skin colour. Too often people label it racist when it is not. I believe all three of them are good men, their intentions are guided by what they believe is in the best interests of the country.

PUTTING POLICY ASIDE:

I think Mr. Trudeau has done far better than anyone could have expected. No reasonable person could criticize how he handled the Trump administration. He's a skilled politician as we saw with the Xi situation. The name recognition helped in the beginning but has a lot of baggage attached to it and that is an obstacle moving forward.

I don't believe Mr. Poilievre is a someone who becomes a great leader. He is an amazing critic, the perfect #2 you put behind a great leader. Has been involved in politics for a long time, hard for an attack dog to pivot and lead. Maybe he proves me wrong, we'll see.

I have been extremely impressed with Mr. Singh and do believe he could be a great leader. I don't believe his religious beliefs and wearing a turban is an obstacle too big to overcome. As he gets greater exposure I think he will win people over, it's just going to take some time.

Hopefully we get more productions like "Political Blind Date", and wouldn't it be helpful if they showed programs like that in all schools.
