I was wondering if it possiable to start your seeds under 12/12 to find out the sex before it grows to big and you waste time growing a male?

I dont think it going to help you like that, as in give you a heads up too whether its got a pair or not.

It can be done successfully. But im pretty sure when you do that, thats how you get a single cola. Not to sure about that though

don't bother doing 12/12 from seeds to find its sex because it will show it as soon as it wants. You can top you plant to help keep it under a certin hight and your plants won't strech either. Doing the 12/12 from seeds then finding their sex then veging them will make you waist 1 month for making it start to veg.

force into early flower then revert back to veg stresses the plant and the time its recovering and switching you've lost lots of good grow time

I've never done it, but I've seen the pros recommended this:

Grow your seed normally under the assumption it is a female. As soon as possible, take a cutting and treat that like a clone and throw it under 12/12 to get it to show sex.

The advantage of sexing the clone is that you find out sex just as soon, if not sooner, than you would with the big plant, and now you are able to veg your main plant just as long as you please.

if you are going to do that wait untill it is in its 3 finger leaf stage, about 2 weeks old, keep it in 18/6 till then and then switch it over to 12/12, plants wont show sex untill they are at the right maturity so it will grow as big as it has to untill it reaches that maturity, then start flowering, i have heard from multiple people that 12/12 from seedling has yielded them half an ounce each plant and the plants dont get over 1 foot or so. the whole 12/12 from seed to harvest would take about 2 months. this is good for SOG grows with seeds.

i myself had my mother in 12/12 for a week around 3 weeks old, due to a timer fuck up. i fixed it after the week and a few days later my two plants i had showed sex. first the male, then my mother. after that i have had it in 18/6 and i really didnt see that much of a lag in growth, actualy when compaired to other peoples plants at the same age mine was usualy much bigger... i think as long as you dont go over a week and have the plant in full flower befor veging it really doesnt effect it nearly as much. just switch it back after a week and it will still show sex after being back in 18/6...

I am currently using the 12/12 from seedling method. First week and a half using t12 fluorescents, switched over to t5's and the plants took off even with the 4100k tubes that came with them. I now have two 3000k and two 6400k. If it's not to hot in the top of my closet I also use four 2700k 23w cfl's for a few hours here and there. My seeds broke ground on the sixth and seventh of January. By January the thirtieth, of the eighteen seeds, I ended up with twelve females. As of today they have been flowering for ten days and are but a month old. I apologize for no pics. They range in size from about five inches to about a foot or so. This is my first grow and I read enough on here to almost give me analysis to paralysis. I decided because of the limited size of space available I didn't want a vegatative state so to speak, more or less I was hoping for one decent bud from each plant. As this was an experiment from the get go and I'm absolutely certain I did a number of things wrong, (I can tell looking at some of the plants), I have trimmed most of the original sets of fan leaves off the bottom as they were turning a very nice yellow in the hopes that more light would be exposed to the lower limbs. I can tell you these girls are throwing out bud sites everywhere. Apparently they have decided against the one main bud idea I had in mind. As I said this was all an experiment being my first grow and not knowing how the plants will react. These will be done around the end of March? Two of the girls are of an unknown indica/sativa seeds from Amsterdam. All the others are just bag seed collected over the past several months. I will do my utmost best to post some pics of the girls before they make their final sacrifice. I also used twenty four ounce party cups for the whole grow. My next one I plan on using half gallon grow bags, veg the plants for a month under a 16/8 schedule with all 6400k tubes before switching over to a 12/12 schedule and a change of lights for flowering. I can honestly say I'm a senior citizen and the proud father of twelve one month old girls. Who would have thunk it? I learned I can use bigger 'pots' and have a veg state and my space will be able to handle it. If you are looking for fast for personal usage, I highly recomend trying the 12/12 from seedling. How highly recomended I won't know for about two more months???

Yeah due to the sucess of an riu member Sgt. Sly i threw about 8 in 12/12 from seedling and they seem to be growing great! He was able to yeild around 8 grams a plant of some great bud on a first grow. Ive sen people here get up to a 1/2 oz using this method too!

Is 12/12 from the seed how they make the single cola?

I thing that there are other ways too but thats what mine are doing. The ones that i vegd for 2 weeks have a little branching but the ones i started off in 12/12 are just growing the one main cola with a couple little bud sites at the bottom. There not very far into flowering but it doesnt look like there gonna branch.
