Can you put the carbon filter out of the tent?

Hi, 2 questions please:

1. Can I put it in the end of the pipe out of the tent instead of in the tent?
So the air will be pushed out vs the filter and not suck in?
I don't have space for it (2X2)

2. Can I use it without the white sleeve?
My tent is a bit flow by the vent in, so I tired to give it more air flow by removing the white sleeve.

I’ve wondered this too. However in my head i figured with filter on outside of tent, you’re just pushing the humidity back into your grow room. I could be wrong. I’ve seen people do it and I wish I knew how. My huge filter would break my lights and plants to death.... but I don’t want to exhaust into the room straight out of the filter because I think the humidity would still be present.

Can you have the exhaust fan pulling air out of the tent from the outside, then put the filter over the fan? I usually vent into the same room, but the carbon filter still works because of the negative pressure in my tent. I pull the air out of a top vent and have the fan and filter above the tent resting on top. Keeps my tent space clear.

I run mine on outside the grow room. Cut a circle out of the universal AC filter that's blue. Sit it over the exhaust intake.

I run a filter on the room intake mostly. I left off the blue filter because it was dragging down flow. I bet its sucked a few knats down. But overall the ducting and fan stay fairly clean.

There's two ways to set up the exhaust. Push or pull. Push is inside. Pull is outside. As long as the air is ran through the carbon filter. Either way works.

I don't see why the humidity will be different? its a simple math...
What you pull less is the same as what you will push less.

But that is only as long the filter don't care about the difference between push and pull - and that I do not know, and the opinions are different out there so I am asking.

I don't think you want to push air through the filter. Might work with some high quality filter builds, but I think most of the cheaper filters would be blowing charcoal dust all over the place. I haven't tried it or anything; and I could be wrong, but I've seen a lot of filters that shit charcoal if you just shake them a little.

This is what I did.
exhaust fan pulling air out of the tent from the outside, then put the filter in the end of the pipe coming out of the fan.

I do have positive pressure on the tent since I put the filter on... The vent is pushing more than the exhaust fan pulling with the filter

I will pay attention for that. Is it microscopic or I can see it? I am not sure I want to breath that

Why would you want positive pressure? You need air exchange, not air buildup. If you just don't want the sides of the tent sucking in on your plants, wrap some yarn or thin rope or tie-down straps or whatever around the entire circumfrence of the tent poles (under the tent) in a couple of spots tight enough that the air flow can't bow it in.

I don't want, but the filter is blocking the air flow... and the vent in pushing air. it was balanced with my exhaust fan, but now with the filter its not.

My setup is

a pipe is coming out from the tent, then exhaust fan is pulling from it, and the air from the exhaust fan coming out to a pipe that goes to the filter (pushing the air threw it.

Like this (as intake)

My vivosun filter doesn't blow dust everywhere, but I do keep the sleeve on it just in case. I did check for fine dust in the room for a few weeks after the initial set up because I read an article warning me about it. Maybe I am lucky :]

That Vivosun diagram makes no sense. They're calling it an intake filter but the diagram shows it being used as exhaust. I always thought the air needed to flow into the filter and keep the charcoal pushed together in the middle rather than blowing out from the inside. They're not completely packed with charcoal on the inside, so even if it doesn't blow dust, I don't see how it would be effective as odor control.

Def not an issue with having the fan suck air out and blow it into the filter. Put the bag on the filter that they come with. That will grab the carbon that pops out on first start.

My blower is in my attic. Pulls air from the tent and blows into the filter. A 2x2 will not put out enough moisture to mess with RH.

I'd worry about inefficient air exchange in the short term and increased wear and tear on the seams leading to light leaks in the long term. The solution could be as simple as replacing any active air intake fan with a light-blocking flange so that your intake is passive or, barring that, getting a more powerful exhaust fan. Of course, if the tent ends up leaking a lot of light, you could do what I did with my shitty tent full of pinholes and turn it into a 24-hour on autoflower space.
