Can you put the carbon filter out of the tent?

Should I worry about the positive pressure? the tent is a bit blown :)
If your filter isn't getting to that air, it won't work well. You might have some smell leak if you can't get it negative at least a bit. Since air is going through vents and pinholes

I don't think you want to push air through the filter. Might work with some high quality filter builds, but I think most of the cheaper filters would be blowing charcoal dust all over the place. I haven't tried it or anything; and I could be wrong, but I've seen a lot of filters that shit charcoal if you just shake them a little.
Leave the prefilter sock on, no dust on the blow out.

How i run mine got a 2x2x4 so no room for it really inside , works fine for my purpose
Does it control odor well? I would assume all the charcoal would be settled at the bottom due to gravity, leaving the top half or so of the filter empty and forcing most of the air out of that part (the path of least resistance) before it ever reaches the charcoal bed. I don't think most filters contain enough charcoal to blow it all out to the edges without leaving gaps, even if the fan pushed enough air to do so in theory.

If smell is an issue then it's definitely a problem.
I can't remember what the alleged issue is with blowing over drawing but there's a way to get it right.

Seal some 6" pipe to a box then put the fan and filter in the box, now when it draws air it pulls it the right way through the filter out of the tent.
The downside is that you need a decent filter, if the sleeve is impeding the flow it's maybe worth considering a suitable fan.

My plant is 5ish weeks into flower and I can't smell anything outside but it smells inside so it's working in my opinion lol

I have 2 exhaust filters. 1 in the tent > through the fan(which is outside of the tent) > through secondary filter. 0 smell.
I'm thinking of doing that so I can put a small inline for intake and put some type of home ac filter cut piece over it to filter more animal hair out lol it hasn't beem horrible but its more than I'd like which is 0 haha

Have this tent set up with an external exhaust. It works just fine. No dust, no smell.
This filter is designed for push or pull. Have seen other brands that are as well.

No smell. Before that, I could smell it outside our apartment...
now I can't smell nothing outside the tent.
I asked about the pressure if it can heart the flowers ( I am middle of 8 week since flip)

Got it. But it works.

Ok I think I need to add a vent like you did.
I have only one vent that pulling air into the tent.

I need to add one that pulling out, before the exhaust fun outside.
I hope its not too much noise to add one more vent... (tent in bedroom :) )

So sum up:

It works, no smell.
It creates positive pressure cause the exhaust fun is not strong enough? maybe. I have another one, stronger, I will put it instead and update.

I built an airtight box out of plywood with an intake from the room with it venting out the top, it stood upright. It worked great, maintained negative pressure and wasn't in the room. I think this vacuum box setup is the ONLY way to go in that situation.

Do you have any guide for this?

update:

I temporary put the filter inside the tent, and pulled the air - same positive pressure exactly as outside.
I returned it outside and added an extra out vent before the exhaust fan, same positive pressure, its like the vent don't help at all.

Look the same results when inside the tent as outside.
I have positive pressure only when I add the filter.. without it the tent air pressure is good and balanced.

If someone have a guide for this box solution, I will be happy to see it.
Thanks.

Hi, 2 questions please:

1. Can I put it in the end of the pipe out of the tent instead of in the tent?
So the air will be pushed out vs the filter and not suck in?
I don't have space for it (2X2)

2. Can I use it without the white sleeve?
My tent is a bit flow by the vent in, so I tired to give it more air flow by removing the white sleeve.

Thanks,
you would take the white sleeve off and stuff inside the center so it’s still has a pre filter but yes you can blow air out from your tent straight into the filter.

reversing the filter is what u would have to do you don’t want to stuff air in the tent from filtered air from the room back in the tent that won’t be good but if u pull air out with a passive intake you should be okay good luck

I don't have a guide but I'll explain it best I can.

Build a wood box that will contain your filter. Make the box JUST bigger than the filter. Screw the box together, then use a construction adhesive such as "pl premium" on the inside joints of the box, this will provide an air seal as well as some strength for the box.

Leave one end of the box open to allow you to insert the filter. You will later make a hole in this last piece of wood that will allow you to hook the fan either directly to the filter OR attach a pipe or hose which will then connect to your fan drawing air through the filter. For the fan to draw air, we now need to cut a hole in the side of the box that will allow you to attach a hose that comes from the inside of your tent.

Air will be pulled from inside your tent, going through the hose attached to the intake hole in the box, this air will then be drawn through the charcoal filter exhausting out the top of the box.

You want to have this system as air tight as possible. I used a rubber foam type door seal for the lid section with the exhaust hole, screwed down and I even taped it for overkill.

Think of the box as a mini air tight tent, it's drawing the bad air from your tent, exhausting it out the top. Maintaining a negative pressure in your tent while keeping it out of your tent.

I found using HVAC attachments worked best for the intake port, allowing me to keep it airtight. Airtight is crucial for this to work well.

Good luck and i hope this helps you. I'll do my best to help. If you have any more questions, shoot.
