Can I hang this vertically?

I say hang it vertically, and if it breaks buy one without a built-in ballast so you can keep that heat out of the grow tent.

Nonsense. Gravity has no effect on the lamp. Point it up if you like.

The sun’s intensity is between 10am - 2pm.
Noon is theoretically the ideal position.
But cannabis naturally grows like a Christmas tree (how timely) because in nature it is exposed to more side light than that from directly overhead. All plants are, of course.
Therefore, when side branches grow at an angle, that angle puts them at ‘12 noon’ mathematically, if lights are positioned at angles
Pure side lighting would represent the horizon. I prefer 10&2
It eliminates the need for scrog, manifolding, fluxing, or any extra work along that line

This method works only in a small personal garden

Most metal halide bulbs are horizontal burn only. It takes a special MH bulb that will run "base up". Many HPS bulbs are universal but some horizontal only.

I called the bulb manufacturer and they said the bulb was universal, I was more concerned about the fixture. But from what y’all have said collectively, it sounds safe electrically.

the issue is actually;
Do I have enough room to not burn the plants?
The light fixture is 4” wide if it’s vertical, I’ll hang it probably and inch or two off the wall, so let’s say 6”.
the pots are cylinder fabric pots about about 15” across the top. So they’re taking up about 1.5’x1.5’.
Which is 2.5’ per plant. I’m sure the plants will over grow the pots a bit.. but they’ll mostly be trained with a ring. I think I’ll be good. Heat might be an issue but I’ll do some research ways to keep it cool.

I’m also up for suggestions. :eyesmoke:

Idk if I would use it as side lighting in that small of a space. You will probably have heat issues and it seems like it might be too close to the plants. On that light does it have a recommended distance? Like 18-32 inches away?

Only reason I ask is because it will have 9 square feet but if your supposed to keep it 18 inches away your down to a 1.5 foot x 3 foot growing area.
you might be able to put them all horizontal with the two hps's on the outsides but make them angle inwards to take up less space

I think you're going to need the side space for fans and stuff
^^i meant to @ you guys in that last post

I only have one hps. Thanks for tuning in.

With good air circulation blowing between my 400's and my sides I end up with some colas pretty darn close at about 8 inches. Much closer and they start burning. I keep a fan blowing up between the light and plants.

Thing is its only a 150w bulb, its not kicking out loads of light and its in a reflector so can only light from one side. If it were bare then you could plonk it down the middle and get equal light in all directions.
Multiply that with the fact your mainlining and it would seem more logical to go horizontal with both lights.
A proper mainlined plant will let more light in from above than it will from the side.

Vertical grows are amazing you get twice the plant coverage on the same light. Things like scrogging just get a little harder and you have to prune differently

I see what you’re saying.. I just don’t want one one plant under the led.. one plant under the hps..
that seems like an experiment on light comparison
I want to know how to maximize the output to both plants.
