Can Fan worth the money?

Hi all, I need to replace my 6" Can Fan... was going to step up to an 8" Can Fan but I don't remember them being so damn expensive. I have some brand-less 4" inline fan that was under 100 bucks and has been running like a champ for 5+ years, but it doesn't have a speed controller and it's loud as fuck.

Do you think the Can Fan is the way to go, or is there something else I should be looking at? Been out of the inline fan game a long time ;p

btw my 6" Can Fan lasted like 6 years running 24/7, with me never cleaning it like an asshole.

edit - I see they have a 5 year warranty so I suppose that's something.

I have an 8" Ac Infinity fan that works for me, I think it doesn't have the static pressure of a can fan, could be wrong, but it has way more power than I need it for and it's MUCH quieter than I remember my last can fan being-but that was 20 years ago. I think it depends on if you're running a filter, how big your space is, and if you need to vent the exhaust a long way.

Haven't seen AC Infinity before; how long have you had your fan? I use a carbon filter, about 600 cubic feet, short duct run.

vortex fans, there canadian made the bearings last a very long time. i had a 4” that i sold to a friend when i upgraded and its been running for 7+ years now still solid. there also almost all metal. easy to dismantle and clean. great product i wouldnt buy anything else personally. they even have an s line which is said to be low db havent tried the s line personally.

My vote is Vortex

I checked out the ax infinity go with that , a 6” is $150 on Amazon but it comes with a sensor which no other inline fans , 10 speed settings and it’s a mixed flow fan. I seen it comes with a sensor that hooks up to a digital controller that you can preset room temps or humidity to and if the area goes over your presets then fan will kick on when u need it . Saved me from spending 200 bucks on a temp and humidity controller .

After reading a ton of reviews, I just bought a Cloudline T4 from AC Infinity for a 3x3x6 tent.

Selling point was the controller for me. Just having a controller that monitors and set to trigger at high humidity or temperature, keeps it very stable in the tent and cycles every few min.

The controller ramps it up and down slowly as well. You can also just run it constantly at a speed setting of your choice, but then can't use the auto triggers, so that's the only downside imo, but if your running it 24/7 I don't think you need triggers anyways.

It's plastic as well and the motor breaks away from the main chassis for easy access to clean it, without having to unmount it.

I dig my 6” canfan, it’ll almost break a 4x4x7 tent on high. I still get really good negative pressure on low, through a carbon filter.

Nice, How quiet and how much? That controller might just find its way here. Any downsides? Roll on....

It's not bad, it's too loud to be in a bedroom imo, but quiet enough you don't hear it if in another room. I think if I had it inside tent it would knock a few dbs off.

Price was $119 USD. Being Canada ended up costing $200 CAD. Imo worth the price.

Down side is some limitations to the programming of the controller as mentioned. Also cannot be used with a mechanical timer or smart plug as it does not retain memory of programming. Can still use a smart plug for power monitoring, just not on/off.

Can fans are German engineered, that's a by word for quality in my books.
With a variac/speed controller you can get next to no noise, my dehumidifier makes considerably more noise than than my 660cfm systemair with the power turned down.
£55 for a 2 amp variac it's a worthy buy if noise is a issue it's been a god send for me.

I own two of the 6" Vortex Quiet series fans and they work great. I think it is a 10 yr warr? Somethin crazy. They are very quiet for sure and powerful. I like them much better than the green hydrofarm fans. I have 2 of those as well. You can gran those Vortex and the speed controllers at HD for a good price. I think it was $140 for the 6".

Can fan is junk and so is their customer service, so many other options now that there no need to waste it on scumbags...

I got a VivoSun 8" inline with speed controller built in but really wanted a Vortex S Series. Sexy mofo but twice the price. No speed control tho and I have a Temp/RH controller I've been using for 20 years. 10 year warranty on those I think. Canadian made too I believe.



When I ordered the VivoSun I also ordered a $16, 6-8" hard plastic adaptor for it. F'n outlet on the fan is only 7 5/8" so I'll have to DIY a seal. Not a big problem but FFS let a guy know in advance why dontcha!

I have a hankering to make my own out of sheet metal. I have a big old soldering iron that I'll have to heat up with my tiger torch, plenty of solder and flux and the DIY skills to do it. Pretty sure I can find a pattern on the web. Could use pop rivets too and seal the seams with some silicon. My 6" no-name one is still chugging along so no rush. I wired up a ceiling fan speed controller for it and that works great. Wife has been using it on the fan for her incubator lately but done for now. I also have a 10A variac but use that mainly for cooking up my cocobudder running my still.
