Have you started a journal? If you do, others will follow your grow and help you along. Especially as your using such a small area, that'll interest a few.

Anyhow. Ventilation Question
I am building a bloom-room 4ft x 4ft & 7ft High, I have a 400w HPS and am wondering what sort of power/size I need for the extractor fan, I noticed GanjaGoddes and BigBudBalls both seem pretty clued up on technical specifics and was hoping someone could offer some ideas. I do have a budget but it's limited.
Any help?

If this were true that a CFL's surface temp was 175 degrees F, you would burn yourself touching it, and it would melt the plastic enclosure around the ballast.

I can stick my tounge to a flouro.

So how is it that your TC is reading 175....

I am intigued though that you have one.... Tell me more...
I can't hold the bulb for more then say 4 seconds. No prob holding the ballast.

Its a 'K' TC. I trust a TC over any other measurements. Stable and accurate.
Why would it melt the plastic? There are a lot of high temp plastics.

I can do a pic if ya want.

I think this system would work wonderful for you!

High Tech Garden Supply

Or you could go to home depot and get a $27 250cfm inline duct booster fan and stuff some Carbon pre-filter ($15) from lowes into some tubing and even that would probally work just fine....

Thanks GG. I think I need to find something in between the two options you offered. I'm in the UK so, no Home Depot for me, it's a shame because it looks like you could pretty much do a 1-stop-shop there for just about everything. I can go to about £50 (approx $100) but obviously less would be better. I don't want to make the mistake of getting something thats useless for the sake of saving a few notes. I have to get another HPS ballast too, Man it's adding up.

I got you... heres what to get...

A inline $27 fan from B+Q they should have em, there made by suncourt or some equivilent duct booster rated for 250 cfm or higher.

And a Carbon filter thats like rated for 200cfm or smaller should only cost like 25 pounds.

Or you could DIY, and make the carbon filter for 20 pounds maybe....

nice one GG i will be off to B & Q later and see what they have there. I have just forked out £50 for a new MH bulb + ballast. The inline fans they have on ebay would set me back another £50 with postage, i need to cut costs, I must have spent £200 so far just to grow a bit of percy.:wall: Lol all in a good cause I guess, once i got this stuff i won't be paying out again, unless I get busted of course

thanks for the info friends!

Ganjagoddess...will a 150watt HPS be too much heat in an area of 1.5x1.5ft with a height of 3ft even if i install computer fans for intake and exhaust??
Check out my grow. My cab is 2X1.5x3.5, so a little larger than your's. I started with cfl's for veg, planning to bud with cfl's as well, until I found the 150 GG has mentioned. My cab runs cooler with the HPS than with 10 26W CFL's I vegged with. I figured by the time I bought 10 more CFL's in orange spectrum ($40-$50) vs $90 for the HPS(shipping is $20) In the long run I decided to go with the HPS ....IMO better coverage, more intense light, less heat, and less power usage. With good ventilation you can run this...The reflector is 16" wide so it will fit...
Ventilation will be the key no matter what lights you decide on. JMHO:joint::peace:
