If you want to try a long flowering sativa landrace strain, Ace does have some good options. Their Honduras is as close to pure landrace as Ace gets, it's a great plant, and I've heard good things about New Caledonia. If the flowering time is too reasonable, it's probably not a pure sativa, the temptation to hybridize these plants is too strong for a lot of breeders. Snow High is another good source of pure sativa classic strains like Colombian Gold, Vietnam Black, and Panama Red as well as a lot of good stuff from Mexico. Swami has a good collection of old sativas too. I like the himalayan charas sativas too, you can find those at Ace or at the Real Seed Company. They're bred for resin production for making hash, but the high is very different with them, very warm and happy-some of these are Malana Cream or Nanda Devi. These plants all result in buds that look very different from modern dispensary buds-to be honest they end up looking like janky ditchweed, but don't let that throw you off, they are most definitely worth growing and the range of highs you'll find is unlike anything that can be bought in a dispensary. Tropical seeds is a good source for African sativas too, their Ciskei is a great option for a South African sativa.

landraces dont produce so much though do they, well as i understnd it, im going to have to spend £80 a month, just to run my smaller 400watt light, so im looking for a heavy yealder, im not too bothered about longer flowering as people will pay good money for a good sativa buzz

That’s an ACE Malawi I’m running at the moment.
It should yield pretty well and flower onset time wise, it’s about on par with a cheese next to it and behind some Rosetta Stone, just far more stretch to tame.
Apparently the longer you take it the better.

The buzz is supposed to be on another level too.

sorry I only take shit pictures no matter how hard I try haha.

Yeah, I was just using it as an example because quite a few people have grown a cheese hybrid And the Malawi doesn’t seem too far behind, which surprised me.
It seems to have a fast onset of flowering compared to some other longer flowering strains I’ve ran.
ACE say 12-13 weeks, I’ll go longer most likely.
I take an OG cross I run at around 10-11 weeks, so a few more weeks doesn’t seem that bad.

WIth Ace's Malawi, you'll find individual buds ripen at different rates all over the plant-it does grow for a very long time, but you can stretch out the harvest and just take down the buds as they ripen, letting the others catch up. It's a trippy plant for sure, everyone should try Malawi at some point just because the buzz is so different from our genetically similar dispensary bud.

Its 90% Sativa, and is a big producer. Youd never know it is 10% Indica. Is super potent.

The Durban is also killer, and 100% Sativa Landrace.

I was just mentioning that because the OP was asking about sativas. But since their friend is from South Africa the Durban would be a good choice for them to grow. I just harvested some Durban myself.
my friend did mention durban poison, but he also mentioned durbon blond or something like that, along with other strains, wish i could remember them for you all, ill have to ask him next time i see him

Sounds like you're looking for stuff that's not necessarily purebred Sativa but stuff like Durban Poison that has most of the traits that people want in a sativa but also the ability to produce in better quantities and/or without some of the physical traits of the per stuff.

Sort of threading the needle between not growing spindly foxtails but remains true to assumed sativa effects. So yeah, stuff like the Durban, or the Kali Mist, Maui Wowi, etc. is probably where you're headed. I'm running some Durban Poison from Dutch Passion right now and it's got some of the traits (like thinner weaker colas that need some structural help), but also is forming good sized buds. Its a good bet that most stuff sold today has at least a bit of hybridization to it, unless you're going with a few of the hardcore seed archivists.

That's another thing. Not all Durbans are the same. Some are hybrids but there are some that are true sativa. That's one of the reasons names don't mean anything. Many just call stuff Durban Poison because the name is well known. Those 8 week strains going by Durban Poison are definitely hybrids. There are some Durban genetics that take 13+ weeks to finish. Those are going to be what you want if you're looking for a true African sativa.

It's like Barneys Farm calling their hybrid Acapulco Gold. Most people think they're growing the real deal. It's good weed but it's Acapulco Gold in name only.
