Hi, I know this is off topic but worth a shot...

I have this job working as a tutor at my college in MA (I know weird for this site lol) but anyways they said for me to fill out time sheets and pass them into payroll to get paid and that's the way itw as explained to me. Just recently the woman who works as my coordinator said that I have too many hours for the work I've been doing (a total of 37 hours going back to december, big deal) and she said that they're going to hold my paycheck and further timesheets until tehy start verifying my hours.

I do have stuff to backup the hours that I documented but I didn't know the legal implications of something like this can someone help me out with this? I looked it up online nad looked at the department of labor and didn't find much other than some vague statements saying that they can't hold a last paycheck.

Contact labour relations !!
You'll have a cheque in the next 2 days !!
Guaranteed.
most employers will just comply with labour relations in fear of further troubles from labour relations !!
Cheers !!

I sitarted the ball rolling in that direction earlier today, but since it's a holiday it could take a couple days. I am supposed to have this "meeting" with my supervisors about this and wanted to figure out the legal implications before I sit down so I can know what I'm talkign about.

just simply let your employer know that it is against the law for him or her to with-hold any compensation from you for legitimate hours that you have worked. if you have all of the documentation in order there shouldn't be an issue.
some employers are just bastards !! trust me I am one ( not a bastard but an employer) !! lol

Basically they are accusing you of jacking off instead of working, and wanting to get paid for not doing work. They think you should be doing the job in a much faster pace and they do not feel obligated to pay you, until they prove that you have been as productive as you claim you have been.

they cannot hold that check.

if you logged your hours following the procedure they provided, then they cannot 'hold' it. they HAVE to pay you, either on pay day, if it's defined, or twice a month.

it is up to them to prove that you didn't work if they want you to pay them back.

report them to the BBB (better business bureau), or any local law enforcement agency that deals with labor issues. and take the evidence of you're complaint to the meeting, and see where it goes from there...
