I've been neglecting the veg tent, haven't opened it up in days, just checking water levels, need to do some much needed pruning lol. i run the lights very low, very low nutes, a little hydroguard and the floranovabloom seems to stabalize the ph pretty good. just top off with water

grapefruit c99 mother left, blimburn c99 mother upper right, pineapple clones lower right








4 pineapple c99 (clones of plant in bloom)----i'll keep best one. I took them during flower, so they're in that wierd reverting back to veg stage...





trimmed up ready to be mothers






5 Bodhi's sunshine daydream beans/rooted in paper towel, see if i can get these babies to root straight in hydroton.

Day 44 ~ 12/12

Still long way to go, they are starting to plump up a bit. Goin very light on the nutes < 1.0 EC / 500ppm to be safe, I'd really like to push them abit more but I'll wait till i get more experience.

Going 1/2 strength silica and koolbloom liq / still pushing calmag @ 4ml/gal

Might as well if you have both 7.0 and 4.0 Calibration fluid. Only takes an extra minute. I use coco and imo keeping a proper and steady ph is crucial to a problem free grow.

So since we touched a bit on "overwatering" why not pH too. Regarding coco, I have not tested pH in 2+ years. This is at my home grow as well as at the dispensary I grow for. Issues have been 0.

I hate working for a dispensary, however, there are some great perks. One being having what seems like an unlimited budget to test and research. So one of the things I started looking into was the effects of changing pH on base nutes. Effectiveness drop as chemical properties changed. It wasnt a huge change overall but once you get into secondary functions the disparity really shows.

An example of sorts, we know giving the plant X nute will cause it to grow flowers. This is a primary function. Let say that also all things are ideal which is going to cause X nute to start inducing secondary functions like trichome development and resin production.

Over the years I have come to learn that getting those secondary functions operating at an effecient level is what seperates your lower tier smoke from the top shelf stuff.

Just some more food for thought. :blsmoke:

Haven't ever had 4.0 solution, I've just calibrated to 7.0 since the beginning. I'll order some thx!

Trying to learn to read the plants, but im far from that. But i do try to recognise what happens when i make changes...you mention affects of changing the ph ....is that suggesting swinging the ph up and down a little instead of @ 6.0 constantly....

back in the veg tent, so far bodhi's sunshinedaydream seeds have been 100% germination, unfortunately the first 2 turned male, lets start 6 more......

i'll wait till they're atleast this far along





transfer um to 3'' nets with just 1 layer of hydroton, gently insert root down until just about the bottom, carefully surrounding with more hydroton, then one layer on top





into the bubbler she goes with the others, water line just hits the bottom of the net pot, and the bubbles seem to keep um just wet enough...











we got 2 popping already....I'll back fill with hydroton as they grow...as soon as they show sex they'll go in thier own waterfarm

pH will change the properties of the actual nutes themselves. So what I am suggesting is that pH uppers and pH downers change the enzymes within nutes, which in turn changes how the plant reacts.

My water comes out of the RO between 5.5-6. I test pH when I change filter just to make sure I didnt mess it up lol. From there nutes are added pre-daily watering and then plants are watered.

Honestly couldnt tell you last time I checked pH. Give it a go your next coco run. Worse case, after a week or so you will be back to testing lol.:bigjoint:

makes sense, thx again for your advice

Someone else mentioned, the nutes i use, along with being buffered, are chelated, and are effective at a much broader range, hense he doesnt adjust ph at all and never has probs.

Im 100% tap , 44ppm, 7.8ph , i really need to get an ro machine (im more concerned about the chloramine it might have in it)

my ph outta tap runs 7.8, and after the soup is mixed its about 5.6, I've been adding silica to raise it to 6.0 and thats all....no additives needed to adjust...although im gonna need to cut out the silica here pretty soon

Best thing you could do for that is start building your soil ecology. Get your companion plants, clover and such, going and then in a few months once it's established, it'll go very easy. I put girls in right off the bat and did have some initial issues due to things not having balanced out yet. Loving it now though. I'm eyeballing portable swimming pools lol. I follow this guy on YT and his beds are ridiculous.
