OK so title says a little, I currently have one empty tent and about 50 seeds ive obtained from a friend.
as far as lights go ATM I have 2X 130W CFL hanging in there.
How many plants could I grow employing SOG method?
I was thinking Veg seeds for 2-3weeks depending on size, then flip to 12/12 because I read 12/12 from seed is a waste because a plant will not be ready to flower anyway until around the 3 week mark.
Thus making more use of the first 2-3 weeks by veging for 20 hours.
I have never done a SOG infact im currently flowering my first grow in another tent.
Will these 2 130W lights do for all of my seeds or should I use them for base heat/light and bang some 3-way lamps inside aswell with some 40W CFL bulbs?

FUCK sorry I forgot to mention.
I have no experience with soil, so I would probably be using Coco (unless soil would really improve my yields/results)

So if I was to look into perhaps a home-made DWC unit I would benefit more?
Or that's just the way you prefer to do it?
Sorry for the endless questions, im an engineer by trade so designing the setup will be no problem at all.
Or are you simply stating that I could do all of my plants given my current situation and the tools I have if I used aqua/aero but your not 100% sure about solely coco?

SOG with dwc? Sure, I think you'll have a larger yeild with it. Theres plenty of ideas out there; what were you thinking?

Specifics on soil... your best bet is to wait for soil guy to help. I've never used, nor will I ever. I'm afraid I wouldn't be much help.
In hydro, I've never had to worry about watering, feeding, ect.. I don't know how you'd have room to feed 50 plants in soil.

After reading a post by DrBud greengenes on ICmag webpage I think ive found what I'll do...
paper cups or half water bottles, filled with coco holes in the bottom, bang them under my lights inside a tub holding maybe 10 cups/bottles each.
I'll slam maybe one more 130W CFL inside to bring my overall power to 390W, might not sound like much given the space of the tent HOWEVER im not using ALL of the tent.
The lights will be hung directly over/around my tubs creating 390W inside an area of maybe 3ftx3ft, I will then add 2x light boards with maybe 4x 40W globes on each for side impact lighting.
I should with a little practice obviously be able to pull some weight off simple bagseed, my MJ growing means more to me than the money that could be made.
I like the challenge and the hobby, I like the beauty the prosperity, I want to be able to one day grow top notch buds and create my own strains more than I want to be able to supply the city.

I would use coco if your using it in another tent already. Its much easier to maintain one style of growing especially a first grow. If you wanted to do some type of hydro a flood and drain would work with half gallon pots or whatever you could fit. You didn't say how big your tent was. Using dwc or something similar would be a pain in the ass having the roots all tangled up, unless they're fem seeds you'll be throwin half of them out

If you start them in soil go buy a jiffy greenhouse seed starter kit, it comes with peat pucks loaded with predator bug eggs. You add water and the eggs hatch after a week or two and they are much easier to transplant into cups and then pots or bins later.

I have 4 plants flowering atm in my 120x120x2m tent, they are coco and I have had no issue's using coco even though I don't use the reservoir and buckets for re-circulating system anymore I took it out because it added too much height.
I've worked ways around getting nutrient lockout or salt build ups even though I don't flush my bags, or have runoff when I feed.
I just feel really comfortable with coco, I know some don't recommend it for a first grow but its been nothing but simple and amazing to work with.
Obviously I had to do a lot of quick learning as I had no idea what it even was when the hydro guy set me up with it lol, I thought everything was soil back then :P
I'm not too worried about hand feeding as im currently hand feeding about 9 flowering plants inside 2 different tents, im a smart bloke so I will definitely work out a watering system for my next grow for the big babies but the re-circ system I had was a piece of shit and poorly constructed and I paid $180 for 4 bags on top of a plastic reservoir with a shitty pump and a shitty dripper thing.
Im sure hand feeding for a SOG however will be a touch easier as I wont need anywhere near the amount of spread or actual water/nutes.

Just some food for thought, with CFLs you want a bulb within 4" of every leaf to get the best results. Did you say what spectrum you are working with? I've had good luck mixing spectrums with CFLs, but be warned it is about the slowest veg growth lighting there is lol.

If you pre moisten your coco, dirt ,rockwool and then keep them under a humidity dome there is no need to water them, they wont start using water until they grow roots.

I Currently have 6500k globes in my 130W lights so as I was saying I would have 3x 130W 6500k globes and the other 8 globes at possibly 40W each I will most likely throw some 2700k just to throw some other light around.

So even from seed, when I transplant the seed if I use my humidity dome I shouldn't need to water for a while as the moisture will drop from the top of the dome due to humidity?
I have had horrible luck trying to get clones to root in my cheap dome, but I don't blame the dome I blame the minimal effort I put into the clones after planting.
However if I could put the dome to use at the start, that would be fantastic!

You cant veg them the whole time in there but they will last a month with minimal watering in a dome after they sprout as long as they get sufficient light they wont stretch too bad.

I may just use it for the first 7 days or so, as im only veging for 3 weeks as it is.
Or perhaps I will FIM the plants just once at just under 2 weeks old, just to create a balcony effect within a micro grow.
I'm not sure if it's viable to FIM such a grow as im only growing for around 7g-1oz per plant, every 2 months.

You should grow autos if you are doing micro grows, just plant the seed in its final pot and 55 days later you have an ounce or two bud growing out of the dirt ready to harvest.

Yeah but auto's for me atleast in Australia, im looking at like 50 bucks for 5 seeds even if they are from a no-name branded supplier.
I would much rather grow monsters from seed's that im paying for, and use the seeds I obtain from friends for fast turnaround as it doesn't matter how much I stress the plants the seeds were free and if I want to try new things and the whole crop dies I only lose my time and damage my ego.
