It's a funny thing about this whole "sativa"vs "Indica" difference in highs. I contend that a ripe sativa will get you stoned-stoned the same way any ripe weed plant will do. Back in the 70's most of the good weed was couch lock stone weed -because being stoned and melted into the couch is what happened after smoking. The more stoned you got, the better the weed was. No one was going out for a jog or doing any free-climbing...lol...just no. I think this is all just a sales pitch to make buying weed more of a connoisseur type of thing...The whole thing about sativa giving an "up" high...whaaaat? If anything, that might just be because sativa take a lot longer to ripen...growers get impatient and harvest early...the weed isn't ripe, so when it's smoked, it isn't getting anyone stoned...so it gets interpreted as an "up" high...which is, essentially, not being stoned. But, if that same sativa were to be allowed to fully ripen, then it would be as stoney as anything. Also, I imagine if you harvest an Indica to early, you'll also get an "up" high, too. But that is the attractive thing about Indica -they WILL ripen in less time. So, more people are getting ripe Indica weed and getting heavily stoned -as opposed to getting underripe sativa and not getting heavily stoned and calling it "up".
But I do agree that there are many, many terpene profiles that can make the experience of smoking very pleasant or very unpleasant. And, if you have one of this great flavors sticking inside your nose, I think it enhances the good feeling -regardless of the THC level. A good batch of old school weed didn't have nearly the THC, but it had more of the good flavor...because it was ripe.
