Heating the jars and lids is the process used to preserve food, like tomatoes, beans...When you heat the jar the air inside expands. You put your buds inside, screw the canning lid down tight and as the canning jar and air inside cool it contracts creating a vacuum inside the jar. If you use canning jars and lids you can tell if you have a good seal by pushing down on the lid. If it pops in and out you Don't have a good seal if it doesn't pop in and out you have a good vacuum seal. Mold and bacteria won't grow in a vacuum. You should be able to store your buds for a couple years this way as long as you keep them in a dark place. I've done this process hundreds of times. I canned some pasta sauce this way last week.
