Bud Flavor - Does it exist?

Guinness and Leffe Blond taste nothing alike, just like Paulaner Hefeweizen tastes nothing like Stone Arrogant bastard. Different styles, different flavors. To me, I don't get the night and day difference between different strains like I would styles of beer.
Right but with the beers listed, you're comparing apples to oranges. Now if you were to say Widmir Hefeweizen and Blue moon taste similar but have a bit of variation because of the very minor differences in their process and ingredients then you'd be on the right track. They're both low hops, wheat, and have a few minor ingredients. Blue moon having a bit more bitter taste with the orange peel adding during fermentation. That is if you want to get as close as you can to comparing cannibis to beer.

Cannibis is Cannibis with some minor differences in the genome and phenome. Various nutrients probably play a bit into it as well but for the most part all MJ has the same taste with touches or hints of something else.

I hope this makes sense.

Take care,

EDIT: Whoops! I didn't read the last post of the thread but yes, B2GROW is right where I'm at with the taste difference. Cheers!

Personally, I have no problem deciphering between Widmir and Blue moon and really don't think they taste alike 8). But I don't enjoy either of those beers and only brought up booze in response to someone saying it all has the same taste. My only point is that I don't feel herb varies that much in taste and some people have agreed, some didn't. Maybe I just need to seek out a more flavorful strain the next time I'm in Amsterdam.

The flavor profiles on weed can be completely different, it's the whole reason I got into growing. There are several factors that determine the taste of a plant. Genetics play a big part as well as method of growing not to mention the flavor can vary in intensity from one plant to another depending on phenotypes among a certain genetic line. The reason people go through a countless number of seeds is to find those special plants that stand out in flavor and potency. Most people today have the mindset that they can buy a single pack of seeds and are supposed to get the most awesome pheno of that strain ever. I can't count the number of threads where people dismiss a strain because they grew out a couple of seeds and didn't find a holy grail pheno or a "sport". The marijuana plant is amazing and can replicate more terpene profiles than any other plant on earth. The reason you find a lot of bland tasting strains as of late is because of shitty breeding and shitty selection. I've found plants that taste like skunk, pine, jasmine, BO, potted meat, life savors, orange, strawberry, tropical fruit, fuel, lime, lemon, mango, grapefruit, apple, cherry, blueberry, grape, musky, coffee, sour, sweet, with the list going on and on and having combinations of all of the above. I'm not talking about "this kind of tastes like this or that" but full on flavor. My advice is if you have a hard time finding good tasting herb do some research and start popping some seeds, a lot of them, I can't tell you how many seeds I've went through to find what I'm looking for. Also, the best growing method for getting the best flavor is growing organic by building your soil and using the right amendments not supplements, don't buy into the corporate bullshit like Advanced Nutrients. I'm talking about guano's, azomite, glacial rock dust, volcanic ash, ect...... The only thing nutrient companies have to offer are things like beneficial bacteria, enzymatic cleaners and humic/fulvic acids unless your growing hydro, in which case your never going to experience the true flavors that can be produced by this amazing plant. I've grown in all types of mediums and I have never found any growing method that allows the plants natural flavors to shine through like a well built living organic soil.

I have not smoked anyone else's weed in two years. I can tell you the strains I grow, I can notice a difference. My Ice leaves a pepper-ry taste in the back of my throat after smoking. My White Widow packs a heavier, "full" hit that is not harsh, but strong; no real "taste" per se.. My Crystal is the perfect strain for joints and casual smoking. Smooth and deceptively "cool" believe it or not.
My Mystic and Rasberry Cough are not cured yet. I smoked some of both recently. The mystic goes down nice and I don't "feel" anything exhaling, just a smooth, cool smoke. The Rasberry (albeit there HAS to be some pysch to it) filled my grow room with the smell of berries; my wife loved it. We smoked some and I shit you not, there was a berry-ish taste in the back of our mouths when exhaling. Blew us away.
I am almost done jarring up this season's grow. Attached is what I have complete so far. One Jar WW, many of Ice and Crystal, one jar of Mystic and one jar of Rasberry.
I think I am going to try and squeeze a couple more plants in this year; I'm on the hunt for a strain that grows well in cooler temps (hoping to find that wild purple shit)..
Any help would be appreciated in that selection.

Just like you can taste over fert dry buds im sure ive tasted good flavor herb. Id say everyone has a different criteria to what good cannabis is whether that be flavor, texture, taste or smell. After smoking it in bong, vaporizing it and or extracting it using butane I can say flavor properties are brought out when I burn dry plant to certain temp like vaporizing it or smoking wax. This is my experience. Bottom line I'd be more interested for the types of medications it produce like sleeping or doing social activities. Flavor is always good! B)

Do you genuinely think different strains have the flavors they're advertised as having? Flavors like sour, or berry, cotton candy, or sweet? I'm a certified beer judge and judge in homebrew competitions. I was also raised on fine wine and developed a palate for wine at an age when most were drinking it out of a box. My palate is a lot sharper than most, yet regardless of the smoke, it all sort of tastes the same; earthy, spicy and smooth. And this isn't just my stuff, I've been to Amsterdam and know other growers with equal amounts of experience. I've also traveled down the path of organic, hydro, and dirt. There may be subtle nuances that change from strain to strain but it all just sort of tastes the same to me.

Your thoughts, and be honest.
Thank you! I have always wondered this myself. It always seems to smell pretty much the same and taste almost exactly the same every time to me regardless of strain. I have never once tasted lemon or cotton candy. The biggest difference to me seems to be the aroma, but even that is fairly similar. I may get a hint of chocolate or fresh mowed grass, etc. but I have never smelled fuel or lavender.

hmmm. i think alot of weed tastes the same, or pretty close anyways. especialy if my bong is dirty. every once in a while tho i taste a strain that tastes alot different like lemmons, or pine. other day i tasted what my friend said was lavender kush and it tasted almost exactly like cardomom.

Flavor? Yes I taste all different type flavors when I grow it myself... Now if your talking about what you buy on the street, that seems to all taste a like, with no interesting or distinct type taste.

My all time best tasting weed? That would be Fantasia a creation of mine, that died in a break in to my grow about 15 years ago. Fantasia, had the flavor of: the little girl that turned into a blueberry in Willie Wonka. As she said "it's amazing you can actually taste blueberry pie oozing down your throat". That's what Fantasia tasted like, the sweetest blueberry pie oozing down your throat. Fantasia was composed, of: (Wonderbud X Columbian Indica X Jack Herer)b100.jpg

If you call a strain "Rasberry Kush" and give it to someone, telling them to "note the rasberry after tones" They're going to say "Yeaaaah. I totally taste the rasberry"

If you didn't tell them what they should be tasting, wether by suggesting it with the name or description, then they would say "Yeeeah. This tastes like good weed"
