How does the external sump work? Hows the setup. I cant find anything about making sump for bubble bucket. Graduating from soil, starting new grow early fall. I'm going to have 3 18 gl heavyduty storage containers 2 plants each, I want to put a 30 gl sump outside for adding and maintenance and extra nutrients. If anyone can give me link about making sump for bubblebuckets that would be awesome! Thanks

2 pumps are running in the resivoir, 1 runs through the chiller and back and the other goes into the grow container. water level is maintained by having a 1/2" hose running between the 2 letting gravity do the work. does that make sense to you?

the girls are going to have to live with the 250 and the wires have been cleaned up.

my ph drops everyday. it starts out at 5.8 and buy the next day it drops to 5.1, i let it go for 36 hours to see if it would stabilize but it went down to 4.5 so i've been adjusting every 12 hours. i'm thinking the culprit may be the clear hoses causing a bit of algae and i know algae in a swimming pool will bring the ph down. i'm going to pick up some wire harness wrap to black it out. does anyone know what else might be the root of this problem?

hey snocat, the water temps are holding a steady 68 degress.

so far i'm liking the water. i still have a few plants in soil just in case i have a major mess up with the hydro system but i'm pretty sure i have all the bases covered.

major, before going from soil to water make sure you have your temps under control, dirt is a lot more forgiving about high temps

i changed the water last night and refilled with 20 gallons of water and general hydroponics recommended amounts. i use this calculator. http://www.generalhydroponics.com/calculator/index.html using the expert feeding level. that brought the ppm up to 1190. had to adjust ph from 7.4 down to 5.8. the water temp is a steady 68. room temp is fluctuating between 82 and 94 degrees with the humidity hanging in the low 40's. the lights have been on 24/7, today it got switched to an 18/6 schedule.

Wanna see how your Snow White turns out as I have some Fem's on the way

Is 82 degrees the LOWEST your room got?

I always have high temp probs with my closet grows...this time I have a new grow tent running 250W MH w/ a 6" inch inline exhaust...we'll see how that works this round

Good luck on your grow..I'll be watching :-)

hey harvest, my last snow white plant was outstanding, looking for a better harvest this time around since i have water temps under control. changing the light schedule helped with the room temps, it got down to 74 during the dark period.

hey kev. That ph dropping is weird. My pH is on a constant journey upward. Can't keep mine down. Can't keep yours up. LOL... that sounded wrong. We're talking about pH here, hahaha. So one thing is if it drops for sure, don't adjust down to 5.8. Adjust down to 6.2 or something, then over the next day if it drops to 5.4... then the average pH for the day would have been 5.8. Another idea is to add a airpump and airstone to the rez. Air bubbles make the pH rise. I know some people that have a lot of airstones and big aipumps have climbing pH's too. A climbing pH is a good thing (i think i've read that a few times).

Sorry it's taken me so long to get onto your thread. I don't really know what my issue is. Better late than never right?

hey jig, glad to have your input, i'm airpump rich so i'll be adding some airstones to the res later today along with getting the clear supply lines blacked out. when i changed the water i gave the containers a good scrubbing with bleach.

while taking care of the girls this morning my mind was busy thinking why the ph drop? then it hit me like a brick, as the plants takes up differnt nutrients from the water it changes the ph the same way as adding nutrients changes the waters ph. damn that was a good smoke this morning!!!

cleaned and changed the water in the resivoirs this morning. everything is coming along great. the snow white has turned into a bush and the 2 papayas are doing their best to catch up. i've been starting with a ph of 6.4 and adjust back up after it hits 5.4. it takes about 24 hours for the drop. the water temp is 68 and the room temp has been in the mid 60's lights off and high 70's with them on. humidity stays in the low 40's.

not a lot to look at yet....

some jamican mint growing in the watermelon patch

and another one by the hen house

have a great weekend everyone!!!
