Sooner or later some of these companies will learn to stop fucking with us curmudgeons. We're cheap and we research.
My insurance company sent me an e-mail that they were raising their rates. The Fuck you are! I shopped around, ended up saving 1200 a year less than what I'd been paying. They recently sent me a letter asking what they need to do to get me back. You could start by refunding the money you overcharged me over the last FORTY years.
The local inconvenience store stopped selling the cheap papers, they want to sell more expensive big brands. Once again, screw you, I found a place on line that delivers my favored brand to my door for 15 cents a pack less than I used to pay. Never would have looked but you forced my hand.
One of the local grocery chains stopped sending their flyers in the mail. Lately their prices are breathtaking to say the least. Hey you know what the other chains still send flyers and they have better deals. I never paid attention to them before. Ooops, thanks for the heads up on that.
Don't even get me started on the cable, phone and satellite services. Looks like T-mobile wants to play next.
I’ll happily join your curmudgeon gang (just turned 48, so hope I qualify). Feels good to push back. Ditched cable a few weeks ago in favour of IPTV and finally telling Rogers to sit on it after years of their shitty service was liberating and exhilarating!

Good on ya dudes

It's a state of mind mostly and welcome.
I'm quoting Bill Flanigin on this
"There is a time in life where people transition from having encounters with curmudgeons, to having encounters with fools. Think about that for a minute and then think about the last time you came across either one. That will tell you a lot about yourself. And it may be time to embrace your inner curmudgeon."

You ever refilled a "non-refillable" carbon filter? I have. It's fucking ridiculous. Damn near impossible. Always messy. A complete and total pain in the dick. Did it work? Yes. Was it worth it instead of buying another $50-60 filter? Not a fucking chance. Especially after you subtract the cost of the charcoal.
^^^ that is exactly how I feel about shopping insurance. I have had a few large losses over my life and good insurance that doesn't fight you at payout is worth the extra money. I pay a little/(lot depending on perspective) for my insurance but when I've had a loss they've written large checks in days. So I'll pay the extra and roll my eyes twice a year.

I have a great off-shore VPN, so I just download torrents for everything I want to watch or listen to. Gave up cable over a decade ago, and I didn't turn on my tv once in 2023. I just watch or play everything from my 17 inch laptop, it is right in front of my recliner so it looks larger from my perspective than my 55 inch tv that is located across the room. I love how tech progresses.
