Thanks Keep it Coastal! Just droppin' in with a little update. GDP seems to have grown 4 or 5 inches in the last 3 weeks. The rest of my grow is getting a little rootbound. Waiting for my soil to finish cooking this weekend.

At least I know my soil isn't TOO strong. That's what I was afraid of since I never amended an already rich soil before. In this blue berry bagseed, I filled a third of the pot with the amended patio plus, middle third with a mix of amended and non amended, and the upper third pure patio plus. Showed a little bit of a nute deficiency a day or so ago. So I'm letting the soil dry out before I water again. I dont think you can leech an amended soil, right?

Bubba Lavender in ground. About 10 gallons. I read somewhere here that I mightve wasted some soil because at this point, a 5 gallon is the largest you want to go.

The left side is the bent Alaskan Ice. I took a few clones and planted it in its final home.

The new Sour D getting hardened under my blackberry bush

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

On the left side is a Bubba Lavender cutting. Right side is a GDP cutting. Booth well rooted in coco and hardening under the blackberry bush since Sunday. I cant wait to see how they do. They are my very first cuttings that I have been able to root successfully.

The two Alaskan Ice holes are in the middle of an experiment for me. I'm not worried about yield.

On the left is FFOC/Kelloggs N'Rich/Perlite/Vermiticulite at a 45/45/5/5 ratio.

On the right is Ammended Patio Plus/N'Rich/Perlite/Vermiticulite at 45/45/5/5.

I'm going to have my buddy's do a blind taste test when they finish.

Getting my bonsai on with Jack Herrer in a 7 gallon nursery pot. I'll probably be cutting off the long stem to the left for cloning. Jack wasn't healthy enough to clone when I first took cuttings of Ice and Lav about 3 weeks ago. It was still adjusting to being outside with the neon leaves.

I'm really enjoying this thread and the pics, BigJon  I'm at about 42 degrees in Josephine County, Oregon. I've been told I'm part of The "Emerald Triangle". I grew my own meds last year for the first time on a whim. Someone handed me a handful of seeds and I started them in Jiffy pots. A few days later I had 150 seedlings of unknown origin! After much thinning, transplanting and guesswork I wound up with 6 females--legal at last!--and did alright for my partner and I. It appears we wound up with 3 Indicas and 3 Sativas, judging by growth habits. We just smoked the last of #5 yesterday. This year, I'm outdoors again but keeping track of what I'm growing and how it does. I have 1 Trainwreck, 1 White Widow, 1 Blue Widow, 1 Green Crack, 2 Blue Haze, 1 Blue Kush, 1 unknown for grins-and-giggles and 4 Blue City Diesels. I call it my Smurf Garden because of all the blue strains. All were clones obtained from a friend in Grants Pass and a patient resource center in Ashland. I have one BCD in a pot that's outside right now but I'm planning on playing with it indoors when I buy some lights on pay day. I put the first 1/2 dozen in the ground in a raised bed on April 23. The 2nd 1/2 dozen, which included the BCD, went into the ground on May 1st. This cool, wet weather is playing havoc right now for the younger 1/2, which suffered from a caterpillar attack a month ago. They're coming back nicely, I have to admit; the bugs did a pretty good job shaping the Smurfs for me but what a truly scary way to go. Made up some home-made bug spray (ground red chile and dish soap) that keeps caterpillars, spit bugs and everything else off so far  Smurfies range from 30"-34" inches tall for the 1st 1/2 and 19"-21" tall for the 2nd 1/2. They're pretty bushy as I have been doing a little pinching and pruning. I'm really interested in the tie-down method you're using. Is it too late for me to try it this year on some of the Smurfs? I'm thinking about playing with SCOG for the BCD I plan on moving indoors for more vegging. I live on the north side of a hill so my sunlight is less than down in the Illinois River Valley but I had pretty good luck last year. My raised beds are a combo of native soil/clay, steer manure, compost and a touch of vermiculite to leaven the clay. I'm about 1300 ft. elevation with the bed on the west side of the house--too many trees on the south and north sides: very little sun, there. The Smurfs are more advanced than they were at this time last year with the seed starts but I think I can do better with a combo of vegging indoors until later in Spring before I move them outdoors to the garden. I also have quite a bit of yellowing on the BCD's; I think they're over-watered (the potted one looks like the bedded ones but no one else does) and are just not real happy outdoors. I'll post some pics in a few days; I've been keeping track of their growth thru pics and a journal so it's just a matter of sorting through them and getting them posted. What else? Not tracking nutes real close, using a generic fertilizer and pretty much growing the Smurfs like I would a tomato plant--which I also have in the garden with them. I'm liking comparng notes--keep it up!

"Hey Big Jon? What's that hardening behind the Sour Diesel? Could it be? Did you finally get your ass a purple urkle? Your number one cure for gout?"

Hell Yeah Mothafucka!!! No reason now for me not to start next season without all my genetics set.

Nice! The Emerald Triangle in Cali is made up of Humbolt, Mendocino, and another one… errr..dangit. Don’t remember. I can google but I’m a lazy bastich.

This makes me sad for the 144 seedlings that had to die. L When you say partner…does that mean you’re a lesbian? I only ask because I treat lesbians and bisexual women better than other people. They deserve it.

What a great harvest! I’m only hoping Ill be smoking through most of next year. That way I can quit tobacco! (Blech! Its my marijuana “cutting agent” to keep costs down)

What a great garden! With the acquisition of this Urkel and growing Bubba Lavender and GDP I guess I’m leaning towards the purple myself but I loooove Blue Dream (which I think is a blueberry and haze) so I’m sure your Blue Haze is gonna be FIRE! I’m a huge fan of green crack as well but I never had your widow and kush crosses. Are they locally bred? Oregon has an amazing breeding history. Right up there with NorCal imo.

Have you done this before? I would only do it with one or two plants. They should do fine outside despite your limits. Any idea how many hours of direct sunlight it gets a day? If it’s the same spot you planted last year, then you already know how golden you are. ;)

Thanks for the lengthy reply! Sorry it took me so long to reply but I figured anybody who took the time to write all that deserves a good reply. I love interacting on this site. I hang out with a bunch of smokers with no ambition to grow and I’m like “Why the hell not?!?!” So I never really have people in the real world who want to talk about it.

Here’s my cute little head of security!

This is the Smurf garden the first part of May after everyone has been in the ground for about 2 weeks (on the left) and about 1 week (on the right).

This is the Smurf garden a few days ago. The ones on the left are The Unknown, Blue Haze (yes, I think this is Blue Dream, or very close, also), Blue Widow, Blue Kush and Trainwreck. On the right is White Widow, Green Crack and the Blue City Diesels. See how the BCD's are a little yellowish compared to the others? It's better than it was but I'm not sure why.

Here's what the BCD's looked like. This is the one I put in a pot so I can play with it under lights. The ones in the garden bed aren't near this bad and are losing the yellow color already. I don't think soil is the problem in the garden bed as all are on the same dirt as everything else and none of the others even hinted at yellow. The one in the pot (I just remembered this last night--stupid me!) is in pure potting soil. So nitrogen, maybe? Any ideas? The BCD's, the White Widow, the Blue Kush and the Green Crack were eaten by a herd of caterpillars but only the BCD's turned yellow afterwards. Maybe stress from the caterpillars? But the one in the pot wasn't gnawed on. Hmmmmmmm.

If I had known last year what I know this year, I would have given the 144 doomed seedlings away. But I didn't know. I started the seeds last April 3 weeks after I moved to Oregon from New Mexico. Then I spent two months moving them from Jiffy Pot to peat pot to 1 gallon pots and moving them around all over the place trying to find enough sun for them before I got brave and planted them in a garden bed. This is The Girls 2011 a month or so before they were harvested.

I didn't have my OMMP card but my partner (sorry, I'm hetero and my partner's a guy. Are you going to be mean to me now? :-D) had his so that's why I winnowed everything down to 6. This year, I have my card, too, so we have 12.

And below, my Head of Security :-D

Almost forgot! Everything I'm growing is local to Josephine or Jackson counties. The Unknown, Blue Kush, Blue Haze (Dream?), Blue Widow and Trainwreck came from a trusted friend. Actually, he thinks The Unknown is Blue Haze but he admitted to mixing his clones up a little by accident and lost track of a couple. He was calling it IDK for I Don't Know but I think The Unknown is much more mysterious, don't you? The White Widow, the BCD's and Green Crack came from The Greenery in Ashland so I'm confident they are as advertised. What's GDP? Did I miss that in your posts somewhere? Something purple, I'm sure :-D Between your purple and my blue, I guess we're The Bruisers, huh?

Happy growing!!
