Bitter taste from BHO

It sounds like what you are describing FadeD. When I smoke/vape the oil, it hits the back of my throat and I think it concentrates the taste you are talking about. I've never gotten a rubber type of taste, nothing that nasty.

I havn't had tons of BHO, I mostly dab qwiso, however I have noticed that all the bho I've been given by one guy always has sort of a burned rubber type of taste. I havn't paid for any of it so after I dab it and it tastes gross I usually just put it in some edibles. He doesn't make it but I think it usually comes from the same source. I havn't noticed it any other times though.

Damn, you guys got me worried now. I thought I was being healthier by vaping concentrates. All of this butane talk is grossing me out.

then drop the tane man..
I've never been real fond of it as a solvent, kind of look down on those who use it..

I've been making QWISO for about a year and a half now, and have never even thought about using butane as a solvant. I'm not gonna go so far as to refuse to dab it unless it were really bad, but I see no point in using it myself. I believe that the cleanest BHOs are ones that have been winterized to get the last of the butane and the extra waxs and compounds out of the concentrate. The winterizing process is an alcohol wash, freeze, filter, and evap. I personally prefer to just do the frozen alcohol wash, then filter and evap and be done, skip the whole butane step and all the time that goes with the process.

Let me be clear so I don't upset the BHO guys, I'm in no way saying that BHO can't be great. I just feel like making it great often times yields more work then I want to do. Sadly the huge amount of work that goes into making good bubble hash is the biggest reason I havn't tried it. Oh yeah and butane is dangerous to work with.

ive heard people say.. water in bho causes fire dance.. but so does butane.. when butane gets lit up. it turns into Co2 and H2o .. so it can also cause this fire dance too.. i say make sure they are vacuum chambering that bho or dont touch it.

I understand that your not the 1 making it but. My guess is that your getting the bitter taste from the extra lubricants left from butane. I read that no matter how many Xs filtered it says on a can of butane, they still add lubricants for the sake of a lighters functionality. I've collected info from folks on here who seem to have a lot of trial & error already under the belt. Seems that you want to get butane made from the U.K. with 0% impurities (no additional lubricants). I've been able to find Newport locally. Also heard good things about Lucienna or Cabri. Maybe a very thorough vacuum purging system can remove those extra lubricants but I don't believe winterization dose.

So my suggestion to your supplier would be to start with a cleaner tane which should require less purging time & a better product. Now if I where you, I'd try winterizing whatever you get from that guy next.

But Hell, I'm just a newbie! What you seasoned vets like Twitch or Snaps think?

I ended up getting rid of an oz. of the crumble and kept about a 1/4oz. Out of that 1/4 I heated some of it on low heat and it produced some but not too many large bubbles. After the larger bubbles popped it left some of the smaller even sized bubbles so I stopped the heating. It turned out like a pull and snap shatter but I could tell it lost some of the good tastes but still had the bitter taste but not as bad. I also dissolved some in 99% iso, I don't have access to everclear, then evaped it. That actually made smoother but still had that bitter taste. I've decided to lay off the BHO until I can make it myself with all the right equipment. I don't know maybe BHO isn't for me. In the meantime I'll be more than satisfied consuming flowers and playing with kief and pressed kief. I actually prefer the high from flowers over any other cannabis products. BHO was just so quick and easy to use, very discreet.
