In California the majority of the hunts are for a forked horn or better. Any type of baiting is illegal, even a salt lick. Our deer migrate down from higher elevations once it snows and you can see trails where everything is eaten down to a nub and the ground is all torn up. The whitetails out east have their territories that they stay in unless the hunting pressure moves them. Overall the whitetails and Mule deer are larger than our blacktails.

Cool we only get roe deer and the odd red in my neck of the woods the red being bigger

You need a backstop for the rifle bullet if you miss the bullet can't be flying indiscriminately.

This for example, if the shots missed you don't know where the bullet is going go but up in the trees it's going into the ground.

On the odd occasion a bullet can pass through the target and exit to kill again so even point blank needs a backstop.

I'll not go on about but I could, Scotland has millions of deer they're a recognised problem...if you kill one without jumping through hoops 1st you'll be in court in nano second collecting jail time, you can't even hunt a rabbit with your dog in Scotland, dudes got 4yrs for hare coursing...I wish I was kidding

Aye it's ridiculous the rules over here way I see it we have far too many deer as for the hare and rabbit coursing it's big still where I'm from obviously they all poaching but not many care tbh but there's less hare more rabbits here Vs up north

My place is out in the middle of nowhere up in the mountains and we can hunt archery, black powder and rifle/shotgun. The more crowded areas up north in Virginia are where the rifle prohibitions are more common. Some areas don't allow rifles at all and some limit them to elevated hunting stands that meet a minimum height.
I hunt with a group of disabled hunters and disabled veterans every year and as most of us can't stalk anymore we use blinds and elevated lifts for the ones in wheelchairs.

I like to see hares around in the numbers there are atm, for the 1st time in my life hares outnumber rabbits, rabbits aren't bouncing back around here from that hemorrhaging disease like they did with myxomatosis, rabbits feed a lot of animals they're essential to have around.

I'm not into hare coursing but tbf I think the dudes that are into it are unlikely to make a dent in the hare numbers, anyone I've spoken to about coursing hares say it takes a good dog to catch a hare most get away?
Coursing is still legal in Ireland
