Like I mentioned. They do it, but they don't quite lean into it as hard and as obvious as the right-wing sites/"news" organzations do. And don't get me wrong. I cannot stand right wing propogandist shitstains that misconstrue, misinform, and basically disrespect any form of civil discussion. But some of the finer nuances of this equation on the standard news stations is also apparent. At least to me. A good example of what I'm talking about is that character on Morning Joe. Not saying they all do it, and there are some very good newspeople out there. But even as bad as the Fox and other sites like it are, it doesn't mean I have to accept more normalized news as a whole. Some of the psoters here figure I'm just talking out of my asshole because I said I don't watch a lot of news, but that's relative to the audience. Which is the RIU political section. I do my due diligence and research on shit that's happening. And I suss out sources. I just don't relay it in paragraphs of text, sources, links, and examples. I don't find I like to spend that type of time on it as others do. I'm very aware of my own abilty to go down a rabbit hole too deeply. Not gonna happen over friggin Politicians, tweets, and news articles. That shit's for somebody else. I just wanted to give my own take on the subject as I see it. Should've known beter I guess.
Truth told, I don’t watch much news either. I prefer to read it in sources I’ve mentioned today; sources that usually tell it straight in both framework and nuance.

But since I do come from a sci/med background, I’m pretty sensitive about the provenance of the actual or imagined basis of fact that is the exoskeleton of any “informed opinion”. And since i’ve been out of my game for a quarter century, I tread lightly with my opinions based on what I once knew, since between then and now there may have been a paradigm shift to which I paid no attention.

It’s fun to make a Scientific Wild-ass Guess, but it’s important to pay proper deference to what I think of as information hygiene. Making a declarative statement about anything imposes (so I believe) the burden of having researched the basis well enough not to have missed, if not the elephant, then the sidetable in the room.

MSNBC and CNN have exactly the same ratings on Media Bias Fact Check.

Not particularly good ratings, I might add. FWIW, I pull up some of the videos posted here from MSNBC or CNN. Otherwise, I don't spend time on their sites.

Both were rated Left bias and Mixed in the accuracy of their reporting. Lulz at the scathing review of Fox and the hard right rating they gave Fox News for their biased reporting.

  • Overall, we rate CNN left biased based on editorial positions that consistently favor the left, while straight news reporting falls left-center through bias by omission. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to several failed fact checks by TV hosts. However, news reporting on the website tends to be sourced adequately with minimal failed fact checks.

  • Overall, we rate MSNBC Left Biased based on story selection that consistently favors the establishment left. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to news hosts and the website producing 3 pants on fire claims.

  • Overall, we rate Fox News right biased based on editorial positions that align with the right and Questionable due to the promotion of propaganda, conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, the use of poor sources, and numerous false claims and failed fact checks. Straight news reporting from beat reporters is generally fact-based and accurate, which earns them a Mixed factual rating.
It doesn't matter if the summary comes from 2022 or 2023. The fact remains that Reuters, NYT, WaPo, Financial Times are better sources if one isn't just looking for something that confirms their bias. NPR is pretty good too.
al jazeera and the times of India are good for a different perspective, and they seem pretty factual.

You're too busy putting your own thoughts into my words and attacking my character man. Put me on ignore please.
you appear to have very little character to attack...you make plain statements and then accuse people of putting your own words in your mouth...if that appearance is unwarranted, please explain how?

Is there a middle ground between truth and lies, fact and fiction? Liberal democracy and fascism, or must it be one or the other? With MSNBC or CNN during the Trump years, were they and the regular media not fighting a daily torrent of lies, distortion and spin and still are? Their analysis and opinion are from a wide variety of experts, authors, journalists and others and it is the work of the NYT and WP that is often discussed with the journalists themselves. They use journalistic practices and standards and some sides in this struggle are clearly on the liberal democratic side. I tend to base my support on their commitment to that, the truth and facts are a given, as are the standards and practices. These guys remind me of jazz critics.

I didn't put it on ignore, we've made our points and and further discussion on this matter would just a dumbass back and forth with no possible resolution. It's exactly what Sunni says she wants to stop. So, nope, not going to reply to it on this subject.
She also said no name calling,

I was curious about what appeared like an obligation transfer.

They occasionally fail fact checks. They generally report on issues that interest their readers/internet consumers who are for the most part liberal or left leaning. I don't have a bone to pick about their bias because I'm liberal but I prefer to get my news from sources that have less bias than those two channels. Also, I prefer sources that check their work and don't make publishing errors.

Fox, I believe should be shut down for it's role in Trump's attempted coup and continuing interference with prosecuting coup leaders. That's not going to happen. I'm just saying so to draw a distinction over how I feel about CNN, MSNBC and Fox.

Is Joe doing any of this to his special prosecutor? Is Joe freaking out bigly? The democrats don't seem too concerned either...

It will be a study in contrasts these two special counsel reports, smart vs stupid, honest vs malicious. ;-)
Good luck starting a house investigation while a DOJ one is on going and might be for months, these things take time! They wouldn't want to interfere in a DOJ investigation would they? Ya gotta wait for the facts...

It should be shut down for misrepresenting propagandistic theater as news.

A lot of the time I watch them to see if it's just me, when I read this stuff, or do other people think it's fucking insane too! Same reason I come here!

There is no name calling in my posts to it. Those were accurate characterizations. I gave reasons in my posts to explain why characterizations like "cynical" and "ignorant" were accurate. If the shoe fits, wear it.

Think about it He said the media, both sides, are biased and not trustworthy. Then he said he "does not follow the news a lot". So, yeah, it was an ignorant opinion.

I'll stand by that as an accurate assessment.

This seems relevant.

Maybe because I'm Canadian, American left seems like center to me!
It’s sort of an optical illusion caused by the expulsion of the center from the GOP. Though called the moderate left, it’s still the center. Paradoxically, it gives the Democrats greater cohesion than their ideologically more constrained opposition.

Read the statements again, then the responses. Tell me I'm wrong. Check out your post on #182 for starters.
