Best Veg LED

I have a couple of the atreum 144.2 boards just mounted on some cheap aluminum 1/2 " angle to mount them together. I would have went with HLG but they stopped selling single boards. I just picked up a 3rd one now i just need to replace my HLG-120H-36 with the HLG-185H-36.
 
HLG is for sure a good selection, but I wouldn't doubt Atreum would most likely match their price if you just were to ask.

Keep in mind, the HLG 144's are a much smaller board size(2.77"X3.75"), the same size as they use for their Elite96 boards, than the Atreums and have more of a concentration of leds in one place. Atreum uses the same sized board as their 288(10.25"X10.25"), just half of the diodes.
HLG 144's require heat sinking, but I can guarantee you the Atreums DONT.
And from what I can read and find out, that couple of bucks you save is just going to 4 heatsinks, costing you significantly more in the end. They include thermal adhesive pads for a reason.
Atreums will give you a much better spread of your diodes across your canopy compared to basically 4 point sources of light with the HLGs.

So for that reason, if you're set on using HLG, I'd recommend the 120's or 132's.

Not set on any brand, just want the best for my needs till I can build a prototype. I actually prefer not getting the popular option unless that happens to be what actually works the best. Same reason I’ll never buy fox farms lol

All I'm saying is save yourself the trouble of using heatsinks and get larger sized boards. Atreum 144's, or the HLG 132/120

Qb120 or similar heatsink-less board in 4000k is the beezknees. The Vesta strips mentioned above are nice if you want to be able to do more stuff, like playing with internodal spacing if youre going to do both sativas and indicas as you can choose between 5000k, 4000k and 2700k with very little effort but 4000k 80cri seems to do the trick for most

I'm just looking for something to get me by for a year or two, so 4000k 80cri with good spacing is what i'm looking for. The most even coverage in a 3x3 I can get is what I need as well because I will be having a lot of smaller plants at times. Example is if all of the cuttings I took were to magically take root, id have 25 plants in my veg tent soon, which is only 3x3
 
4000k 80cri seems to be favoured around here for veg, 5000k seems to give to bushy plants in some indicas although could be nice for stretchy sativas.

For a 3x3 you should consider form factor of whatever you buy. For even coverage youll need either 4 points of light, hlg veg boards for example or something which approaches 3 feet long. Id suggest you check out @cobshopgrow thread, he uses bridgelux ebgen3 one footers which are actually closer to 14 inches for a almost 3x3.

Eb gen2 woulld be a similar but cheaper alternative but the 1' aaree more like 11".

I still love the vestas for everything. They are also one of the cheapest per diode solutions, and the 90cri spectrums has a definite answer added ooomph. I know you say that it only needs to last for a year or so but i think these will go for much longer.

I agree if u do the ebs but the gen 2s are being discontinued i think
 
I have a 4 k 240 watt board and a 315 CMH with a 4200 phillips master color. The 240 will get it done but the 315 is nicer. I veg iin a 3 x 5 foot area room.

The board is 3 strips 2 feet long (samsung 80CRI 4k)

They will both veg. A qb135 in 4k did pretty good as well but i like the warmth provided by the 315 this time of year. In the summer it will probably be boards again.

But the 315 is a rockstar vegger.

I completely agree, when vegging its hard to keep up with led temps,, and our veg was at times piss poor, the slightest increase in light and the plants started complaining and purple up. No way to get them to man up. Im +1 re vegging with cmh

Hybrid lights like that are really the way to go. My garden has every style of light and i will say without question....i cant decide. I like them all and they all have ability to really grow.

And it is better to mix spectrums a bit anyway.

I have both 315 bulbs because i had 1 tent and that was my light. I changed because of a height clearance. The 315 3100 bulb makes great frosty buds. Both spectrum choices work great.
 
I really only need to make it till Feb sometime. My current grow should be ready to harvest around then, and i have nothing in Veg, just cuttings that I hope take root.

For sure when I build my own it will be a mixture. There will be plenty of 4000k, but i'm gonna be throwing some other stuff in as well. Anybody know a source to get lm301b flexible light strip rolls? I've bought many led's for industrial lighting, even flexible rolls i custom cut to make different light projects for power plants, but only thing that ever concerned me was power consumption so i knew what size wire and breakers to install, things like that.

I don't know if you can buy rolls that are wired together. I've only ever seen boards or strips. Maybe too valuable to use on flexible rolls or are rated for such higher brightness there's no use for them on flexible rolls?
I dunno...
