Benefit to having a HPS & MH?

I had one HPS and one MH bulb. rotating girls to give them a variety of intensities at different wavelengths. (mature vegetative state)

Recently my MH bulb stopped working (i think due to some unintelligent methods of plugging and unplugging ballasts and such when rearranging. not the current issue...although it was probably a current issue (as in amps) haha). Anyhow, I replaced it with an HPS.

Is there any benefit to having both styles of light? i know there are different wavelengths produced by each. I also know that the plant wants different wavelengths at different times. Should i get a new MH or just stick with my 2nd HPS?

you should def. get a new MH, as they are better for the veg cycle. also if your HPS goes, you can replace with the MH until you get a new HPS.

Mh kicks out cool white light at about 6500 kelvin thats good for horizontal growth

HPS kicks out warm white, at about 2700k, great for vertical growth

thats why its best to use both lights or light colors in veg

you get a 'balanced' plant

the choice is yours...but COB(diy) are moving in fast

good luck

thanks guys. ill get on buying a new mh directly.

during flower would i want the combination still?
During veg I run a 400 MH then when I flip to flower I keep that going and add a 400 HPS cause by then the tops are spread out and more light is needed. With the MH going it really seems to help limit the stretch as I've grown the same strain with just HPS and it got a lot taller growin the same way. Once stretch is over I switch the MH out for HPS and run the two HPS for the rest of it.

Try running the MH when you get one thru the stretch to see if helps if you just have the one ballast.

:peace:
