Behind Closed Doors. Grow Journal

Hey farmers, this is my first grow journal. I am growing medical cannabis in compliance with my local and state laws.

Any cannabis photographs included in this journal are photographs of plants that are grown for personal use by me, the author of this journal. The purpose of this journal is to record information for future reference as well as share knowledge and experience with others who are also able to legally grow and possess medical cannabis. The views expressed by me in this journal are my own and do not represent a group of individuals or any commercial business involved with cannabis.

Right now I have a grow in process (week 7) and an empty room that is getting ready for the next run. All of my plants are clones of seeds I popped from my inventory. I used to work at a collective and acquired some clones, and pollinated them using some male of unknown lineage.

I started with a 600w and a 400w side by side for the first 5 weeks, then changed out the 4 for another 6 when I was done in room 1 but I should have started with 6's because the 400 side has teeny tiny buds. Remember and move forward. Got rid of the 400.

My current run is all of the rejects of the last run when I popped seeds and kept clones to see if there was any keepers. I got 2 keeps out of 10 beans that were female. Both an off-white version of the original, but not 100% as dank.

10 plants: 2 are the right half of the canopy, 8 make up the left. The two on the right are phenos of a strain called "Paris kush" that was super fire but when I self pollinated it, the original pheno did not return. Bummer. So now we flower all the ones that aren't keepers. Bye bye everyone. The left side is 8 plants: Sour diesel hybrid seed I had makes up 2 or 3 and the rest are some kind of strain that smells like an orange. Tangerine haze or dream I don't know the name but it is pure citrus. Anyways, I call them TNG1 and TNG because until I find a gemstone, I'm not giving them a name.

You all will have to excuse my photography, all I have is a cell phone camera and HPS lighting in the flower rooms when they're active. I will install LED ambient lighting for less red pictures when I get around to it.

Here are the original seeds I popped, two runs ago.
I had stopped growing for a bit and I am getting back into the groove of things. Picking a good clone out of a bunch of seeds takes a long time, but I am excited about the fact that I'll be seeing someone new every time I pop beans. Anyways, these are the original plants that these clones came from.

Well i abandoned this grow journal because it encountered a problem that discouraged me from posting. No, not bugs, i know everyone was wondering(thats a joke, this thread has no views).

Half of it went to shit because the plants were just not in the best of shape, and the other half came out cool. I ended up with sour diesel and this orangy strain i grew from bagseed. Ill show some pics of the buds n stuff soon.

Also, i started another one across the hall so i will try to get my shit together and keep a decent log of what i do.

20160305_120213.jpg 20160306_194414.jpg I present to you my idea from last week. I had a situation, plants needed to leave my house, but not permanently. With help of blue tape and led lights for signs, i kept my girls happy for a few days without having to keep em in the dark. If youre ever in a pinch, just park it at your neighbors til the heat dies down and bring em on back. Lol. Crafty stoner.

And now, for my new grow journal.

This grow, I am using only one strain. It is an OG hybrid that was produced from some seed stock I had from previous grows, and I have had some stupid luck until now, well with problems and all.

Some background on the grower, I have this dream that I want to make a strain as distinguishable as blue dream or green crack or that alltime favourite Oh Gee. This is just a dream and sometimes I try to play reality with it and boom. SEEDS!

Well, I have decided that I am taking a break from making seeds. Good thing right? One day when we are good friends, I will show you my seeds and you will be like oh damn, homie has some seeds, son.

Sorry for rambling. Starting from the ground up:

Container: 3 and 5 gallon grow bags.
Cheap ass black plastic bags with holes in the bottom. I love em.

Medium: FFOF soil and perlite. 1:2 ratio, not mixed. One scoop perlite first, two scoops of dirt on top.

Strain: bagseed OG hybrid. It doesnt have a name, just a taste and smell that resembles the nug I picked it from slightly. The original clone it came from had better qualities.

-DISCLAIMER-
This is a low budget grow. I use cheap nutrients and tap water from the hose. Crinkle your nose if you must, but I dont wanna hear any crap about the nutrients I use from know better farmers. I have owned and operated the RO system and all brands of nutes minus these new brands nowadays. I am choosing to use the tap.

That being said, anyone is welcome to post their thoughts in this thread, please no product advertising or promoting, I am doing tap water and hardwater nutes til I find a good strain, butII want it to be bomb if grown on the tap when I do find it :)

Nutrients:
GH hardwater micro

Advanced Nutrients Bloom

GH grow from the 3 part

GH Powdered koolbloom

Humboldt snowstorm.

Great white shark.

I hit post way too soon on that last one. I blame the cannabis pill I ate.

Grow room: 8'x8' but the floor space that has pots on it is like 4'x8'

Lighting is one magnum xxl 6" hood with a 1000w HPS on the right, 2 6" easycool hoods with 2 600w hps in the middle, and on the left is a custum LED I made with gas canopy lights from a gas station. It emits white light.

AC: 11,000 or 13,000 btu window shaker and one stand up oscillating fan, as well as a box fan or window fan on the ground to blow co2 at the oscillating fan.

Right now we are going on one month of veg aprox. and I will be changing to the flowering cycle next monday.

I have received information from companies that use blue and red LEDs, that white is no good. Being a skeptic, I put 3 of them on a board and hung them up over some plants. If it works, it will have been tainted by 2 600's next to it so this will not be a what kind of buds can i get from white LED light experiment because they would not have been only grown with LED, but this will greatly satisfy my curiousity and answer my question with experience rather than myth.

I have a hard time asking questions because i know I wont believe the answer I get until it is seen as truth by happening in my sight, so I do tons of experiments. Many of them fail.

Okay now that thats all out of the way, I feel like i made up for all of the stuff i didnt say when i started this journal in the first place. Moving forward.

My clones looked like this on Feb 7th.
20160206_085339.jpg

Now, it is the someteenth of March, and they look similar to this:
20160315_013004.jpg

Theyre all around that size. I am flipping in one more week.
20160315_013037.jpg

There is a line system similar to the string grids you can buy about 8" above them. I want the tops close enough to the lines so that i can ise that metal twisty tie stuff to tie the branches to them so when they get heavy they wont fall down all over eachotlimi

This is gonna be pushing the limit, last grow they were too close to the light and i wasnt happy about that. I have since lowered the chingus that holds the lines so that when my lights are at their highest(5'9"), they will now be about a foot higher from the canopy than they were last grow.

Ok i have the day off and i am very bored, so im gonna post a brightness comparison between my LED, 2 600's and 1 1k hps.

Here is all 3 on. You can really see how red the right side looks and how blue the left is.
20160315_161024.jpg

Just the LED. This light has a very small footprint. Probaby 2x4 effective footprint.

Just the 600's

And just the 1000
20160315_160741.jpg 20160315_160748.jpg 20160315_160920.jpg

Its dimmed to 750 right now, it makes a lot more dense yellow orange light at this setting. I am not happy with it but over the next week i will turn it up all the way.

These clones started off under LED lighting only, and in my experience i can sure as shit "light shock" plants by hitting them all at once with full power. Ive done it. Its possible to raise the lights and go 1k right off the bat but my ceiling doesnt allow this and i dont mind going slow and taking my time.

Ok so heres a quick update:

I am gonna start to flower next monday. I watered yesterday with micro grow bloom at the recommended aggressive veg dosage, ph 5.6. I didnt adjust ir, thats just where it ended up when i mixed in the nutes. I will feed them this one more time, followed by water followed by transition ratios (equal parts of all 3)

I am very pleased with the structure of the plantd so far. Hopefully i dont screw things up.

Update.

Today is the first day of flower. I am counting this day as day one, it is the first "day" cycle after the first dark period of 12 hours.

I just went in there to neem everyone down, the tops are inches away from my string lines, good enough for me. I will be twisty tying all of the branches to the lines to keep my nuggets from falling later on. I took pics next to my co2 tank for size reference.
