No its the inline fans making noise.
Basement noisy sounds coming up through vents/cold air returns. Need something to reduce noise

I eliminate vibrations from mine with rubber bungi straps as vertical mount. Or rubber dampeners on surface. The fan noise is only muffled at the expense of CFM.. That I know not how to remove.
Sound dampening head phones. Ha Ha. .......

if you can be bothered, just get loads of empty egg trays, the kind that supermarkets get 20 eggs in, ang glue them to the floor around your airline path. it should cut down on the noise comming up through the floor.
musicians use it to cover there walls with to keep noise down from neighbours.

Yes good idea. I think I need to cover the circular vent with something too.

I understood fan noise through ducts. And actually really effective frugal sound proofing. Not so much as armor. wow.

look around, but spend the cash out on anything around the vent i think, you probably could get away with the egg box sound proofing, but this stuff may work better around the vent

Try running the fans at a lower speed to reduce output noise and you can buy sound deadening ducting.

Do you think I can lower the fan speeds on my 390CFM running a 400watt bulb in a 3x3??? Only 2 fan speed controls which are the vivosun's.... I wonder if the new fans and carbon filters are louder bc the carbon filters are only like 18" tall, while the previous ones were 25" tall..... The fan is overkill for that size space anyway so could run half speed and move enough air for a 400W but when summer comes along if the space the tent is in is really warm an 8" going full out won't keep things cool. I have a little 2x4 tent with a 200w COB light and can't do anything about the heat when it's warm here. My grow room is underground and one of my 400W HIDs won't keep the room warm enough even in the summer. I have a temp/rh and speed controller on the 6" exhaust but it won't come on until it's warm enough.
I don't have need for quiet so don't have a link to the ducting. Just search for 6" acoustic ducting and I'm sure lots will show up. If it's noise from teh fan coming up the pipe I'm not sure if that will fix the problem tho. It's more for preventing noise coming off the length of ducting into the surrounding area. Only a slower speed may do the trick so I'd try that first.
I could have a 12" Vortex on full blast down there and wouldn't hear anything other than maybe a faint hum upstairs if the house is quiet. The damn dog barking his fool head off all night would drown out everything anyway.

The register in your floor that supplies the hot/cold air? It shouldn’t affect it any assuming you apply this wrapping to the outside of the duct work. In fact you’ll likely increase efficiency of your hvac system cause you’re insulating the line(s)

Yeah but those are to muffle sound coming off the body of the fan and won't do anything for sound travelling down the duct.
Any chance vibration is causing a sound somewhere? Between the filter on the ground to the floor maybe from the fan sitting on top. I have mine on a bungee cord so no solid contact with anything. Only a foot and a half to the outside.

are you venting your tent directly into your hvac system? if so, guy was absolutly right when said it would turn into a megaphone. that sound and vibration is going to bounce all threw your house ducting. it would quiet it down or atleast isolate the noise to the basement if you vented your tent thru its own ducting

Could try making your own duct silencers/mufflers, using a couple reducer fittings, and a larger diameter section of rigid metal ducting, like 2 inch bigger than what you already got. I think there's a cheaper way to get that egg crate rippled looking foam, without buying at a jacked up price for sound studio use, although the premium stuff might be a little better. . They use it in bedding and pillows too, etc. Line the inside of the bigger pipe (8" for example) with a layer of the sound foam. Then pop some 8 to 6" reducers on each end. The inside of the foam layer would be roughly the same size as 6 inch ducting, so no loss of flow to worry about. They sell them already, but i would never pay that much myself, and rather build one.
Oh, and clean your fans out good. Inlines build up dust on the fins quick if your not filtering your intakes, and get real noisy when they do. Makes a big difference in the droning hum noise.

Or even use some cheap regular foam panel, and cut long strips from it, to form rings out of. Keep stuffing rings in the duct as tight as they'll fit until its full from one side to the other, alternating between bigger and smaller ones. Big, small, big, small, etc, to give it a staggered ripple like effect along the whole interior of the duct. Hope that makes sense.
