Back at it - V12 Strain-Unknown Cross-CFL/VIPARSPECTRA 900W LED Closet/Tent Grow

Sup gang,

Been a while since I've grown, three years in fact but figured I'd get back into it. Had a bunch of bagseed from about 10-16 years ago and couldn't get any of them to pop, I'm talking I tried everything. Then Santa Clause dropped off some seeds called V12, I will update you all on the specifics of the plant soon as they become available but now all I know is that it is a cross, the seeds aren't feminized (packaging said that they're regular seeds), but here are the specs of the grow so far

  1. Medium= a soil mix being used for entire grow made up of Foxfarm Ocean Forest/Perlite/Premier Pro-Mix HP BioFungicide + Mycorrhizae/ 2tbsp Bonaide Root stimulator for seedling soils
  2. Lights= 100 WATT CFLS/ VIPARSPECTRA UL Certified 900W LED Grow Light, with Veg and Bloom Switches, Full Spectrum Plant Growing Lights for Indoor Plants Veg and Flower
  3. Containers (for now)= Jiffy Seed Start Strips, 2-1/2-Inch, 2 rockwool green tubs
  4. Vivosun heating mat
So far I've
  • Soaked them for 12-15 hours
  • Planted 10 seeds so far (4/10 seeds have popped thank goodness)
  • used two old rockwool containers to house the jiffy strips, since there is space between the jiffy strips and the bottom of the container I've placed some water at the bottom to kind of create a hydro wicking system for the jiffy strips to keep moisture in without watering often to keep my soil mix moist. The 2 green tubs came with plastic humidity domes which I poked holes in for better airflow to help the seedlings out and I've always been a fan of more airflow.
That's about it I've attached pics to help with the visual of the setup, thanks for checking out this grow sub and I appreciate all feedback. Ciao

Sup gang

Hope everyone is good on your end, we're about 3 days since planting the babies check out how we're doing

Updates
1.Planted 10, 9/10 of cracked soil and looking good. For those that have popped I've added a little bit of soil near the base to make the main stem stronger, yes we're stressing a bit already but its minor.
IMG_0126.JPG
IMG_0140.JPG
2.Originally out of the 10 that were planted only 4 seeds showed taproot prior to being planted so as result until proven otherwise these seeds have a high germination rate
3. Bugged out and soaked 10 of my 16 year old bag seed after seeing the V12 seeds pop open, and you wouldn't believe it ONE SEED FING POPPED OPEN! Placed a rubber band over the jiffystack that has that seedling
BS.JPG
BS1.JPG

4.When only 4 V12 seeds had popped I soaked about 5 more in case the remaining 6 that were planted didn't show taproot, well 3/5 new V12 seeds popped and I planted all 5 so now I'm possibly looking at 14-16 babies in the next couple of days.
OOPS.JPG
5. So I've got a full house hoping that none of the other bag seed pop as I have way to many potential babies than I can honestly work with right now.
IMG_0139.JPG

6. Officially moving to a 18/6 schedule today begins official vegetative tracking for seeds hatched 1st. Staying with my light current setup which is a 23watt cfl thought I have a 38w LED corn light that I want to try out that I had from years ago. It basically replaces any 100-150w MPS/HPS system so not to much bang but its better than my current 23w cfl, we'll see I'll update here of course.
LED CORN LIGHT.jpg

That's it gang, catch you next update

Day 6 Updates
  1. Setup all seedlings/plants on 18/6 veg light cycle
  2. Officially using my 38w LED corn light, hanging about 20 inches from plants
  3. Looking like officially 9/10 seeds are progressing
  4. Out of new 6 seeds all seem to be on their way to producing green, 4/6 seeds are breaking soil
  5. New thermometer/hygrometer on the way
  6. Looking like I'm getting some stretching not sure though
That's it on my end gang, all comments are welcome, ciao

Sup gang,

Hope everyone is doing well, here are some updates since my last post

  • Setup 4x3x6 tent
    • Carbon filter fan setup was as annoying as I remembered
    • lights are 30 inches above the canopy
  • Moved all plants to tent for remainder of grow
  • transplanted out of the jiffy strips into 4 inch black plastic containers
    • This was a mess! Basically I was checking out some of the jiffy strip containers because it looked like my roots were growing into the jiffy strip container. Now though I know that they're made out of peat I want to keep my mediums as consistent as possible which led me to transplant them all earlier than expected. Dealt with a bit of transplant shock but the babies are growing again!
  • During the transplanting found an extra seedling growing alongside another seedling. Though I don't remember planting two seeds in one container I've given this seedling its own container moving forward
  • As of now there are fifteen V12 babies pushing
    • Will need to decide if I'm going to try SOG or cull some plants because I have no space to grow more than 3 plants in my tent and that's pushing it
    • Bagseed seed never broke earth, dug it out and the taproot never grew
  • We're officially on day 12 from seed
  • Has anyone grown with viparspectra grow lights before? using this one https://www.amazon.com/VIPARSPECTRA-Reflector-R900-Spectrum-Indoor/dp/B00UORXSIU?ref_=ast_sto_dp and want to know anyone's experience with them

That's it on my endIMG_0158.JPGIMG_0159.JPGIMG_0158.JPGIMG_0159.JPGIMG_0161.JPGIMG_0162.JPGIMG_0163.JPGIMG_0164.JPG, ciao till next time

Your best bet is SOG since their regular seeds. You should go to 12/12 from now and prune to your space till they show signs of sex. Look up 12/12 from seed. And the Vitaspectra is perfect for that space
Thanks for the feedback, far as the lights I don't want to invest in purchasing another light so its refreshing to hear good things about them for this grow. Far as SOG really conflicted about the decision but if I do go 12/12 it will be in a week minimum, want to get some legs under these babies. I read up on some 12/12 threads like you advised and you're probably right but I think I'll make that call next week and start the hunt for ladies. Now a couple of updates
  • Lost one plant so officially down to 14
  • Added my corn light and cfl for side lighting, so as of now I'm running 3 lights in the tent, all veg spectrum (viparspectra is only running on the veg setting)
  • Lowered my Viparspectra to 26 inches in an attempt to curb the extreme stretching, monitoring for heat stress
  • Learned a bunch from these past couple of days and a couple of mistakes I made so far this grow are the following
    • Used jiffy peat moss based growing containers and dealt with roots growing into containers
    • Positioned lights during first 10 days of growth too far from seedlings resulting in stretching
    • Forced to slightly dry out seedlings slightly to be able to bend/plant long stems under soil to eventually grow roots from buried stems. Picked up this tip from Royal Queens Seeds growing cannabis blog section. Seems to be working so far, unorthodox method for sure
Growing pains

Sup gang,

Updates
  • The babies are growing decently post transplant
  • The bending stem method seems to be panning out so far
  • Will likely be doing a sog grow this time around, will probably veg for until May though before I flip based on the current growth rate
    • Going with 2 gallon plastic pots and 1 gallon plastic pots
  • Will be adding this soil https:/Mircale Grow Nature Cares to my current soil mix post sexing, saw it at my HD and looked it over turns out its not bad. I know there is a stigma against Miracle Grow and probably for good reason but I believe that adding it to my current ocean forest + hp pro mix soil it will be fine to use.
  • Will be revegging my best female to create clones from
  • Have been reading up on a bunch of stuff and man it seems like my light isn't efficient at all lol. Going to stick with it during this whole grow but will be adding a 450 watt HPS during weeks 2-5 of flowering just to help out. Going to try and keep my babies under them in a 1ft x 1ft shape under the lights with a distance of 18 inches, seems my PAR is strongest in that scenario. Until I get heat stress or I run into space issues this will be the goal
  • Adjusted my intake fan to face my main light and reduced heat in my tent by about 3-5 degrees, with both veg and flowering lights on I average 82F, as a result I've started keeping both veg and flowering lights on during my 18/6

That's about it on my end as always here's the weed porn, ciao

  • Sanitized tent
  • Received 3 feminized white lavender seeds, soaked two, one popped, soaking again to achieve full 24 hrs soaked
  • Purchased new light, went with Kingbrite 240w from alibaba, seems as same or close to similar specs with spiderfarmer 2000 and the reviews/grows seem to stand by the light
  • Keeping majority of plants in 1x1 space to maximize par
  • Added 6 inch clip fan, disappointed in its performance
  • Temps are cool maintaining both veg & flowering lights to sustain 78-82F
V12 Strain Update @#$!

Plants don’t seem happy their trying to tell you something at what ph are you feeding them. You should flush and check run off. And you should just use one brand of nutrients. I use general hydroponic.1/4 teaspoon per gallon ph range 5.8 to 6.5 throughout and just a drop of floralicous plus during flower
Thanks man, I want to see the results of this strain using both nutes why I'm going 1/2 FF 1/2 AN, never used GH for nutes but I would dig trying them out next grow. The only thing I'm keeping consistent additive wise is the cal mag & superthrive while dosing everything at 1/4 tsp per gallon hoping that strings everyone along during veg at least. PH wise my meter went out on me so I need to purchase another one soon, been eyeballing the plants for the past week as a result honestly. Are your grow's Sative or sativa hybrids? I'd like to know how you panned out with the GH if so.

V12 Updates
  • Day 23 from seed
  • All plants are healthy 1st day post transplant
  • One plant has stem issues, propping it up using two pencils
  • One plant has leaf issue,
  • Temps between 75-79F
  • Humidity between 35-41
    • New humidifier does nothing, purchased a mini humidifier thinking due to the space and the enclosure of a tent it would work but it hasn't. There is literally no difference in humidity
    • Looking into creating humidity type of dome with large ziplock bags
    • There isn't currently enough space in the tent to accommodate another/larger humidifier
    • Creative suggestions to increase humidity are needed/welcome
White Lavender Updates
  • Both white lavender feminized seeds broke their shell
  • Planted in same soil mixture used for transplants.
  • Currently on a heating mat
  • Planted in black 4 inch containers

General updates
  • Will be using sog method for V12
  • Looking for humidity hacks to increase humidity to 60-70%IMG_0189.JPGIMG_0190.JPGIMG_0191.JPGIMG_0192.JPGIMG_0193.JPGIMG_0195.JPGIMG_0196.JPGIMG_0197.JPGIMG_0198.JPG

Sup gang been a while

V12 Updates
  • Day 42 from seed
  • 7 plants have recovered from topping and are producing new growth well
  • Dealing with growth issues on 6 plants, 2 of them were male which was great so I'm now dealing with 4 plants that are headaches.
    • I believe these 6 had growth issues due to zinc deficiency. The root of which is due to me
      • Planting these into what I believed to be my soil mix but only my HP mix, plants weren't fed until 3 weeks into veg so those plants lacked the natural nutrients my other plants received from my soil mix
      • Stretching due to poor light placement during 14 days of growth.
    • Will most likely move these plants out of grow room when switch to 12/12 begins
  • 12 plants remaining
  • LST training 8 plants, good results
  • Temperature averaging between 70-85 F during light on
    • Temperature when lights cut on are usually in the 45-51 range will be looking into investing in a heater next winter grow to maintain consistent temps during dark cycle
  • Humidity between 55-79
  • Plants don't seem to be as large as they should be for 42 days, I attribute this to
    • Light placement
    • stretching and remedies that caused more stress to main stem
    • late start of feeding plants

White Lavender Updates
  • Day 19 from seed
  • Plants look amazing
  • Plants are benefiting from proper start to feeding
  • Some roots beginning to show

General Updates
  • Purchased Kingbrite Quantam Board, equivalent of Spider Farmer 2000. Very pleased with service and performance of the light so far, I'm not advocating to buy Chinese but if you're on a budget Kingbrite seems to be a good alternative to Spider Farmer/HLG lights
  • Topping has pushed back this grow for a week it seems, not sure about revisiting this technique with the V12 strain again
  • Possibly going into the 2nd week of June with V12 vegatative growth cycle

:hump: Things coming along nice.. Keep it up. What’s V12 though just curious.
Thanks, just a bit tough on myself because I could have done better with these seeds the white lavender plants are proof of that but living and learning. Far as the V12 strain this is what I know as of now
  • It is a sativa dominant cross of
    • a sativa plant
    • an indica dominant & sativa hybrid plant
  • I don't think I'm at liberty to reveal the parent strains
  • Plants should reach 4 feet tall minimum with training
  • Citrus peppery terpenes
  • THC should be between 17-20
  • Unsure of flowering length as of now

Sup gang,

General
  • Experimented with sunlight and Kingbrite QB for all plants
    • 11 hours Sun
    • 7 hours Kingbrite
    • Returned to exclusively using Kingbrite due to stretching in White Lavender
  • Will be experimenting with a sunlight grow
  • Attempting again to germinate 12 year old bagseeds for sunlight grow
    • Soaked 10 seeds, currently soaked for 48 hours, will be soaking for another 48 hours maximum
    • Scarred seeds using nail filer
    • Soaked in water and hydrogen peroxide mix
    • 2 seeds have cracked
V12 Updates
  • Day 53 from seed
  • 9 plants remaining, got rid of 3 weaker plants
  • Defoliated all plants to have only top flower sites, caused some stress but all plants have bounced back
  • No deficiencies in any plants
  • Still no sign of sex on remaining plants
White lavender
  • Day 30 from seed
  • Transplanted into 1 gallon containers
  • Experienced stretching
  • begun lst
