Autos alongside non-autos

I have two autoflowering plants in the same tent as four photoperiod-sensitive feminized plants.

I was hoping to have harvested the autos before I flipped to 12/12 for the others, but it is now looking highly unlikely, as I will have to flip within the next two weeks to avoid running out of space with the others.

So, they will have had 5-6 weeks of 20/4 then 12/12 the rest of the way.

I have read that yield will be diminished, I can live with that, the autos were a freebie and are only there to provide an early harvest for an impatient newbie grower :)

What I want to know is, in what way will the yield be diminished? Will there be fewer buds, or just smaller buds, or less potent buds?

What will it do to the lifecycle of the plant? Shorten it? Lengthen it?

Thanks in advance.

Are they small enough you can hide them outside to finish? I'm just quessing here, but would think as longs as you shorten the light cycle during bud development, bud development will be hampered. With this being said, good luck.

Unfortunately outside is not an option. I am in the process of building a veg tent for a future mom, and could potentially stick the autos in there, but they would be under a *VERY* low wattage bulb, I figure 12 hours of 600W has got to be better than 18 hours of 100W?

I was afraid someone might say that bud development would be hampered. I can cope with a low yield but I would like whatever it does yield to be of high quality. Quality is much more important to me than quantity as it is for my personal medical use only.

never grown autos but id assume more time photosynthesizing results in more growth, as it does when you grow 16/8 as opposed to 24/0. if you can take clones off the photoperiods, possibly do some training to manage the space they take up, maybe even a scrog, you could let these autos run the rest of the way, just get a trich scope and check out how far along they are.

Plan is to veg the other non-auto plants as long as possible, but even with training I would struggle to go much more than 2 more weeks of veg. I would like to avoid the classic noob mistake of flipping too late and running out of room. Like I say, quality over quantity is paramount :D

I don't want to do anything to the detriment of the non autos either, they are my priority. Who wants an autoflowering Northern Light hybrid that's 1 foot tall with 20 grams on it when I could have a monster of a Super Lemon Haze that could yield ten times that amount?

PS no trichs to inspect yet, the autos have only *just* started showing signs of preflower. My guess is another 6-7 weeks, would that sound about right for an auto? They are advertised as 65 days from seed but I think that is bullcrap.

very true, if one of these fems is possibly a hermie you could find out during the flip and then possibly have more room, but there doesnt look like any option besides another grow area, that 100W might work well if they're proper distance from the light and in an efficient arrangement(ideally a stadium or vertical grow instead of just flat out, really utilize your lumens when your wattage isnt huge), supplemental lighting for the lower nodes could also help you avoid popcorn nugs that werent given the chance to mature like the top bud, and widen your spectrum.

and yeah i hear most autos should be ran around 80-100 days when the breeders try to say 65-75 days, depending on what they tell you id probably add another 10-20 days, this is also determined by your preference, personally i like a good amount of amber trichs on my bud.

but you also must take into account theres different phenos thatll take longer, your trich scope will ultimately be the judge of when theyre truly done in the end so always keep one at hand.

Yep I will be investing in a trich scope no worries there.

I hope to god none of my fems hermie. Especially the biggest super lemon haze I have, it's a monster plant, responding excellent to topping and now has what will become eight main colas :D

However I am prepared for the worst, that's why I have four fems going. It's also why I want to veg as long as possible, to prepare for potentially culling a couple due to sex change.

fems always have that chance, only thing you can do is hope you havent stressed them enough to bring out the hermie in em. just hope for the best and treat them as good as possible, topping also causes light stress but as long as nothing else is really wrong with them im sure youll go through this grow without having to kill any herms.

Take them out of the tent for the extra light 6 hours even if its from a cfl,i have never run auto's on 12/12 off so i can't advice ya on that but im sure some one might have done this.

One thing for sure is that my auto's are out growing my timewreck from tga,all they have received is nothing other than natural sun light there loveing it.the timewreck is under a 4 tube 3 ft by 2 ft t5 the clones in there are doing about 2/3 ince a day.the timewreck is one lanky mother fooooker lets hope its a male, pretty sure it is with he growth pattern even though its still young

Yep, they had a stressful first couple of weeks but now are coming along grand. They have only been transplanted once to minmise stress, and the two toppings they have had are the only toppings they will get. Now I am doing the odd bit of supercropping to toughen em up and get the branches in the right place, but nothing too hardcore.

I will consider this, but it means being around at the right time every day to ensure they get the same amount of light each day. Then again I might just put up with whatever the autos provide, as they are a freebie bonus and nothing more.

only time can tell whatll happen but i dont think youre gonna get a hermie from stress, any tyke had a good suggestion, if you could move them in sunlight for a few hours youd be much better off than just using indoor lighting.

It's a real shame but unfortunately due to the way my house is built, and those around it, there is no way I can put a plant outside - or even indoors in direct sunlight - without it attracting a lot of attention.

Let's hope so! As you say only time will tell, but for now they are thriving so I'm a happy gardener :)

damn well thats unfortunate. i have the same situation so stealth gardening would really be my only option, if you can get a a bed outside with plants with a similar color, preferably with pungent smell and/or properties that will deter predator mites, you could hide them in plain sight, just make sure to keep up with defoliating the bush or plant its inside of. the key is to get as much exposure without revealing theres weed growing inside the plant.

If u start to train them bita super croppin just keep the norm plants low as possible top them super scrop and scrog em will keep em low so when they stretch to flower u will have a super yield and they wont be so high u set ur screen according to u know u wil have enough room for the stretch I still bend into screen about 2 weeks into flower

Yep that's also on the cards, well everything apart from the screen (I'm really bad at carpentry etc and would probably fall on my plants setting it up or something). Lots of LST, supercropping etc.
Thing is, even with all training in the world, I can't keep them going as long as the autos need to flower. I think the first auto will be done in about 5-6 weeks from now at the minimum. I reckon I can go 2 -3 weeks tops with the fems even with lots of training.
The only way I could grow them outside is by taking them to some scrubland a few miles away and hiding them there, but I suspect that given how north I am they would do about as well from 12 hours of HPS than the crappy weather would give them outdoors. My garden is way too small and overlooked clearly by 6 properties.
