Auto Flowering Vs. Regular

If I dont have auto flowering seeds/plants and I want the plant to bud, do I have to get all complicated with the lighting or will it eventually grow buds?

If by complicated you mean to change the photoperiod from 18+ hours of light to 12/12 then autoflowers are simple. Autos should not require a change in photoperiod and can be kept constantly under a 20/4 regimen or similar and will revert to flowering (bud production). They start flowering based on age not length of nights.

autos are awesome you can grow well over 1 oz per plant if you treat them right and the smoke is just as good as a lot of photoperiod strains if you get the right auto strain. If you want to check some really solid strains I've grown several in the journal in my signature. All the ones I've had in the last two grows were winners.

Autos will never compete with standard high potency strains due to all the ruduralis in them. Are there even any auto strains out there over 16% THC? Most seem to be around 12%-15%. That's no comparison to a 25% hi-THC strain.

I grew out both autos and regulars and I have to say I was impressed by the potency of the auto, It was good as the regulars I grew, the difference in potency is rather small. THC is not everything, many regular strains have THC of 15% or below yet get you pretty high. Compounds such as CBD, THCV, CBC etc. also contribute to the overall effect thus the overall cannabionoid profile determines the high.
Autoflowers might appear to give a less of a psychedelic effect because of their elevated CBD content inherited from the ruderalis in the cross, so in that aspect they might not compete.

Good point.

most 7-9 weeks seed to harvest, most yielded more than one oz. The best I've ever had was a 82 g monster.

Thanks hoss12781. I grow for personal consumption a few (1-3) at a time. 90 days at one oz per is attractive. I like the head sativa high though and would be concerned that I might miss or lose some of that.

Auto-Assassin and MI-5 from Short Stuff are great Sativa hybrids. I did not care for the 'super cali haze'. Growing a sativa auto from Big Buddah right now, the jury is out on that one but it looks the part.

It is harder to make a sativa heavy auto vs an indica heavy so there aren't a whole lot of them out but have heard some good reviews on several and know the auto assassin delivers a great sativa hybrid.

If you're a personal gardener like I am they make sense.

Sometimes way less than 90 days. On my last grow I had a Santa from Flash seeds that did 50 odd grams dried in 50 days.

that or if you know fellow gardening enthusiasts grow some and trade for some sativa photo. I trade with photoperiod growers from time to time with no complaints.
