Folks, I ask your indulgence, whilst I take a trip down memory lane...& share it. Please bear with me....

Has anyone watched Rockwiz on SBS, where they ask the contestants what their first live gig was? Mine was at the age of 16 & a baptism of fire - Motorhead. 31/3/81 at West Runton Pavillion on the North Norfolk cost in the UK.

It was the first gig on the "No Sleep Til Hammersmith" tour, but none of the recordings made it to the album. The lighting gantry was waaay too big for the small venue & just barely above head-height.

Having never experienced anything like this before, I was absolutely blown-away by the ferocity (& VOLUME) of that gig. My ears were ringing for days afterwards. I vowed to use earplugs at gigs thereafter.

I'm still partially deaf, but I also attribute that to exposure to military aircraft, firearms & explosives.

Wife and I are big fans of Rockwiz.
Not sure what my first gig was but first major concert was Dire Straits at the syd entertainment centre on the Brothers in arms tour.

Metallica was the first big band I saw live it was my mates birthday 98 I think it was. I was also 16. I loved the live music scene in Melbourne back in then. I would save all my money up to go to the all ages gigs and try and hide for the over age gigs lol (worked a few times). Bands like Custard, Jebadiah, Powder Finger and who can forget the stone cold boners.
@Rewerb Lemmy had something special doing it before anyone else did. I had a poster of him on my wall as teenager flipping the bird.

my mate back then was a huge motorhead fan and he had a pic of Lemmy on his wall and all I could think of was why look up his nose all the time..haha

Rockwiz was a good show, I watched every episode from 07-09 but didn’t watch it religiously after that. The “Espi” where it is filmed is an awesome venue, that I have consumed a considerable amount of beer at.

They tour it around now. I looked at going a couple times but was expensive.

I met him a couple of times & he was always the consummate gentleman (despite the apparent "persona'). Other members of the band were equally happy to buy beers for their fans & reciprocally accept being part of a "round".

How times change.....
