Aussie Growers Thread

I have no idea what my yield will be with the Kessil H150 but as it is only about 34W I don't need much to grow a gram/watt.
The plant is looking very green and healthy (or purple and healthy) and is about to go into the SCROG screen tonight - I have chopped off 8 of the 12 branches which I am using as clones, leaving just 4 branches to fill the screen.
I'll be updating my thread tonight when I take another pikkie or two.

after seeing GODS led lights i think my days using HPS and MH globes are numbered. i thought $200 a globe was dear but when you think about the power saving just for one grow it makes more sense g per watt will be off the chart. now with DWC do you need to add any agents into the water to prevent root rot and if so what would you recommend? pick it pack it come along take a hit from the bong.... sorry has been like two weeks since having a toke bout to smoke a bowl :P
cant beat h202 50% IMO it sterilizes aswell as aids the oxygen levels in the water, although enzymes like cannazym and hydrozyme work well to break down the dead root tisue

I want an easy to grow happy high strain....starting to get sick of the couch lock from rhino!!!

On a different note. Are the CFL used for grows just the standard energy effienct ones used in the home?....If so ive got a new plan for a build :)

no dude plants need special expensive floros, from hydro shops, with better quality light emissions , designed for plant growth, you will get better qual weed

I got my 600w HPS but i want to have just a veg box for cloning. By the sounds of the other guys though, normal household lights work fine?

They certainly do work fine, just make sure you grab the 6500K lights, Phillips make them in 24W size and a couple of those is all you need for cloning - you definitely DON'T need "special expensive floros".

Nah mate 6500k bulbs are perfect for growth and 2700k are great for flower, the 10000k ones are slightly better but not to justify the cost, I vegged 100 plants under 4 dual globe battens that set me back 50 bucks (off gumtree) got them to ~8 inches and sexed them and killed off any hermies or males.

In short flouro battens work brilliantly, if you don't have the space CFL's are sufficient and the best value ones are the 24w ones, fluoro's will not give you the same quality as hps or the sun but they do give pretty decent results.

Just a heads up if you are looking for seeds.

Seedsman.com have 15% off seeds during October. Also if you are not in the UK (and most Aussies are not in the UK) you don't get to pay their 17.5 % V.A.T. (just like our 10% G.S.T.) so you get the priced reduced by 15% and 17.5%.

Have a look at their newsletter.

Pay for the "signed-for international mail" and they ship the seeds wrapped in a T-shirt and guarantee delivery or replace the seeds.
Awesome ordered some more genetics gonna have a mixed crop this season and choose the best yeilder/easiest to grow for future crops.

Yer thought so as im almost certain i see people use normal household lights. I have my HPS as backup but fark it chews the juice and kinda silly to waste so much energy for veg i rekon.

skiz you should buy a fluoro shoplight and wire it up works a treat, my clone box

Cheers masterhemp already got some :P 2x 4 foot fluros, but i wanted to hook up a bunch of normal edisons as they wont spread the light as much. Im already getting good growth with them on my rhino :)

bunnings sell the 60watt 6500k phillips edison26 fluros, there exactly the same bulbs u see in the hydro stores -minus the hood.

ive bought the "proper grow fluro globes" before and my mate ( a sparky) agrees with you guys ive only ever used them for cloning but am considering them or leds for future grows beginning to realise the wasted space and energy in my current setup is always good to get other growers opinions

Well i grew last time with fluro tubes for MOST of my veg, and i got a far amount of stretching. However im going to bastardize this plant up so much but hacking into her taking clones it would be a waste to have nice short nodes. Not to mention its a random seed i found....i donno if it came from hermi or female x hermi. So ill wait till i know the sex before i turn on the big juice :)

My theory is, once i have taken the clones i want, ill cut her more or less right back and switch to the HID (i should have a MH retro globe by then). This means it will have a great root structure, and it can try to regrow with shorter nodes :) Its win win as i use shit all electricity but SHOULD end up with good yield.

o cheers SCG, Im in two minds about my idea now though, as the 2x 4 footers seem to be going great as is and dont really have a need for the extra lights atm i dont think....

I got 0 stretch under cfl's and flouro's the internodes had no spacing between them, if you get stretching you have the lights too far away.

Second the 60w globes don't really give enough lumens to justify their energy usage and cost I found the 24w the perfect blend of lumens/cost and adaptability you get the party ropes like I previously suggested and you can move them all around the plants and get near perfect light penetration.

hey guys my outdoors are starting to flower, should i bring them back in and put them under a MH? if so for 24/0 to get them to re veg? or do u think they will go back to veg as the days get longer?

I think that you need 16 hours light or more to reveg once flowering has started so I doubt that they will reveg under normal lengthening days.

I'd probably take lots of clones, get the clones to reveg then stick them all outside for the summer sun.

the problem with taking plants from the outside back inside is you dont know what bugs are piggybacking on your pots ive never had problems but am trying to currently grow two plants i started outdoors and they have stalled badly might be shock but time will tell...
