Pretty bud you've got there!

I use my local hydro cos the prices aren't bad, it's convnient and i can pay in cash, and because one dude in particular is an absolute champ and works there for a hobby on sundays lol. I was in there last week and the assistant was so baked he could hardly open his eyes.

My local hydro shop guys are the greatest... No they are not the cheapest but I don't mind supporting small business. Does anyone know of a large chain of hydrostores? I'm talking chain, not one guy owning 4 or 5 stores... No? Cause they don't exist...

My guys are a wealth of information and they know what I am growing, they give careful, helpful advice when needed, and will build shit for me for nothing.. Custom stuff is their speciality...

If everyone who bought from a hydro store was indeed growing strawberries, most hydro stores would go under, its the pot growers that keep these stores in business... :-) Support your local hydro guys... :weed: They are just trying to make a living too...

Your hydro store isn't overchrging. eBay sellers have jack all overheads, and don't need to maintain the inventory of a physical store, and there is so much less admin work etc. If you expect a sole proprietor in a shopfront to match an eBay price you're dreaming. When did you last see a new hydro store open? How about an established one renovated?

Don't worry... I'll wait...
I understand how business works but if you think about it if e-bay is selling the light for 56 dollars and he is still making money off of that then the hydro store bought the light for 40 or 50 dollars at the most and charges 100 dollars for it. No good business will buy something then double the price on it. you have to think they are making money off of everything in the whole store.

Hi all. I hope you didnt think that i was undermining the hydro stores as i wasnt. All i was trying to do was say that a few products were cheaper elsewhere. I love to support small business as much as i can. However when it comes time to pay my mortgage or someone elses it is a simple choice i make. I can honestly say though that i have never been inside a specific hydro store and i think that you pay for the service, advice and products like laceyg says. What have they built for you lacey?

hey rock, i am the first person to look for cheaper than the last place, but i like to support local business. i got my first tent from the local, but all others i will get off ebay. i can get bigger tents for cheaper. but each to their own. i still buy all my nutrients from the local, i dont want liquids delivered to my house.

i am a bout to take some pics for my journal. just waiting for 6pm. lights off and then i can turn the fluro on for the photo shoot. lol

Hi Rock...How goes it?

My hydroguys have built my 8 connected pots and reservoir, my flood and drain tray in my mother tent... I basically went in there and said this is what I want, they said "No drama's", they did all the plumbing including double pots, all airlines and hoses, return lines to my res, they made the tray in my mother tent from scratch so it would fit, they selected the correct valves for my flood and drain, drilled all the holes and even drilled the drainage holes in the bottom of my pots... All I had to do when I got home, basically for both systems was add the medium, the plants and switch it on... :weed:

The only reason I shop at small business is because I used to own one in a major shopping mall... I eventually had to close it down just because of the Exorbitant amount of rent I was paying each month... This is where most retailers go out of business... The rent is the biggest killer... In a major shopping centre, a little card and gift store like mine was pulling in nearly 400,000 a year in turnover, but I was paying 14,000 a month just for rent... That's nearly 160.000 a year, just for space.. I had to sell 3000 birthday cards a month just to cover rent before I made any profit.. That's the only reason I will always support the little guy... You make your money back at the end of your grow by either selling it, or not paying for pot anymore... Its all good...

There's nothing wrong with being thrifty, I don't mind paying extra when accompanied by great service....

Please, no one think that I am having a stab for looking on the cheap... I have also done it on the very cheap... So I can appreciate it...:-) More power to the grower who can find the lowest prices...

Laceygirl...:-)

They charge that much because they need to. In my last job I ran 3 retail stores. If I could profitably own and run a hydro store and sell at prices below that of my competitors, whilst maintaining my required standard if living... Please believe, I'd have as many stores as were in demand.

The costs if running a low turnover business like a hydro store is immense, and the opportunity cost is ridiculous. My man at my favourite store offered me clones for a system I was having him build (I didn't go with the system), and I think you'll find quite a few hydro stores are there because they have (or had) a passion for it.

If you want the cheap lights then buy from online. Even massive corporations offer 10-15% discounts for buying online, and their turnovers are huge, and their costs are therefore fractionalised. If more people buy from online then there will be a net decrease in hydro stores at some point, and this has more consequences than just business failing and people losing their jobs. It's about availability, innovation, experience and interaction... These are things I'm willing to pay for.

LaceyG it sounds like you have a great relationship with your grow shop. For them to go to those extra lengths is the advantages of dealing with people instead of computers. I havent had a chance to build that so i am a little sterile and deal with eprey. I think it serves my needs at present. Anyway i hate that this thread has turned into a debate over a few dollars and i was a contributer. Someone wack up some juicy buds or an issue with their plant to change topic.

Lol no stress dude, not much of a debate. In reality I purchase shit in person because I don't like waiting for postage, or handing over any private details. If you need to spend your money on other things then save it where you can and buy online, no doubt! But there is real value in maintaining, if not building, our local hydro stores.

I'm just ranting because I've been debating the same old chick related shit with a mate which got my all thinking and shit, and I'm baked as fuck.
