My intake fan died today stoked I was at home at the time so I noticed the power out after the fan tripped the RCD! Can't say enough about the need for an RCD for you're grow room... My tent was full of smoke but better than catching fire...

Here's some pics Day 51 flower;

looking good echelon. got a few nice big buds there champ
Cheers Easy, I'm stoked as this is my 1st real grow using proper beans. Glad I had a practice run on bag seed, experimented and failed (alot) before giving it a go with decent beans.
Along with RIU and all you guys, it's been a steep learning curve and well worth it. Next run I'll be giving Flowamasters method a go with a DWC comparison to see which suit my style the most. This run was soil vs hydro and hydro has won hands down, in terms of control, maitanence and yield. I'm also keen to see how your adventures in breeding go, I'd like to learn more about it, especially with our conditions here in AUS. Fuckin Fires one week, floods the next... Hope everyone in QLD is doing okay, considering...

Wish I could decide on awhich shade to buy... Anyone care to give me a recomendation?

I used to have an Adjusta Wing Avenger with the glass coating and got given it from the Adjusta rep to try it out, it was great. Looking on ebay now though and they sell for 250 delivered and i just dont have the cash atm. I am now thinking of just getting a regular Adjusta Wing with the white coating.... Ive kinda gone off the air cooled shades coz from what ive read they dont give even light distribution.... anyone running an ar cooled shade and gettin god results??????????????

google EP COOLRAY

i have 2 of these hoods. one smaller one and one larger one.

they are the best on the aussie market IMO. they have rubber seals all around the glass so they seal tight and that makes for better cooling. the glass has spring clips to hold the glass in place and hinges so getting to the bulbs and cleaning the glass is simple as opposed to other lights i have used where you have to slide the glass in and out form the side which is a major pain.

they also have an excellent light spread. you will notice they have a ridge that runs up the center directly above the bulb which a lot of hoods dont have that splits the light and makes for much better distribution the reflective surface also slopes down on each end instead of just being straight up and down like it is on a lot of other hoods which means they dont have those dead spots at either end of the hood. they are awesome

just be sure to buy the right size for your light they come in many different sizes and depths.

shorter ones are more suited to 400w and 600w with the longer ones being more for 1000w
they also come in different depths. keep in mind that deeper hoods will have a smaller more intense footprint while a shallower hood will give a wider footprint.

i have the 54 x 47 x20 and it covers a 1m x 1m space perfectly and could probably go a little wider.

i also have a larger model which i modified to run 2 x 400w CMH bulbs i call it the resin master 800 hahahah

you can see the shape of the reflective material in that shot. it has that classic bat wing shape

what size lamp are you using? in a 150 x 150 i would suggest either 1 x 1000w or you could probably get away with 2 smaller lamps but i would want them in seperate hoods to give a bigger footprint. i have a 120 x 120 and i have used a 600w in there and it only just cuts it

if you do decide to make a double lamp hood like mine you have to make sure te lamps you are using will fit. CMH lamps are short so i could just squeeze them in. it was simple though my hydro store guy gave me all the spare parts i needed so for me it was a breeze but you cna buy the extra lamp holder and stuff pretty cheap.

oh and one more thing i would stick to the smaller hood if your using a 600w or less even with the bigger space. just use the shallower hood. if you stick a small lamp like a 400w or 600w in a large hood you dont get even distribution because the bulb is sitting at one end. you can see in my pic of the double hood if i only had 1 400w in there it would barely come halfway across the hood you dont want that

Only done one grow in this tent, before that i had a room i built with 2200w of light... So the one and only grow i've done so far i ran a 600w HPS but i am thinking of either going with 2x 600w hps lights or just 1x 1000w hps one i sort out my temp. Its bullshit where I live, we get temps of 38 one day then 14 the next, just no consistency. Next grow I am gonna have the lights on at night too, to try and help run the room a litle cooler.

What about end product? Taste, smoke and effect?
I'm still 11 days out so I'll let you know. I topped the NL and it's come out a treat with 4 main colas and has three times as many flowers as the VK.

In terms of maitanence & control, I spent half the amount of time working on the NL than that of the VK. Soil is too much of a bitch to work but I plan to experiment with coco down the track.
