Anyone seen this product? They advertise it for use last week of veg to 3rd week of flower. Seems like I could just mix up a kelp tea and it would have the same benefits?
Kelp extract is more refined than kelp meal, so you'll need more meal to get the same benefits. Maybe double the amount?
I usually just brew up some kelp or alfalfa/kelp tea. It seems to work great. I had to break down and buy extract because I kept clogging my sprayer with the kelp meal-tea.
Back in ancient times, like 10 years ago, we just soaked the kelp in a bucket for a week or 2. No aeration, maybe just an occasional stir. Was this like a "fermentation"? Can we get trill benefits from using kelp meal this way?
Seaweed/kelp extracts (and bulk kelp) can be quite high in arsenic, so it's always a good to look up your product in one of the state heavy metal fertilizer databases (CA, OR, WA have good ones). Here is the CA one which is the easiest to search, although OR and WA have some different products if you can't find yours here https://apps1.cdfa.ca.gov/fertilizerproducts/. Liquid kelp extracts contain less As than dry, and even those very from BDL (below detectable level) to way too much. I've been using the Blue Planet kelp, which I found on either the Or or Wa database, and I like it because it's very concentrated for a liquid and fairly cheap for 1 gal. I also love spirulina as a kelp replacement anytime you can make room for extra N in your grow or need to green up your plants, as a foliar. Liquid kelp products vary wildly in concentration and quality-look for one that's so green it's almost black and no light can penetrate it.
