Here is my lightfarm, otherwise known as Astrals Magical Boxes of Light.
it is magical to me because it was pretty easy to take some old seeds i had lying around and get a few things from the homey depot and start it going. i have plants of varying types and in varying stages of growth, 5 plants total. one of them is growing like crazy and has to have the biggest rubbermaid tub i have all for itself. also there is a picture of my high tech automated security system.

thanks for stopping in and and the kind words everyone!
houdini the bulbs i am using now:
1x68 watt 2700k
1x42 watt 2700k
3x23 watt 2700k
6x18 watt 5800k
my daylight spectrum bulbs arent ideal and im trying to get a few more higher wattage 6500k's. this is all on a shoestring budget though, and what i have now seems to be working pretty good as far as my limited experience and knowledge can tell.

here are some more pictures from today: my one big plant (penelope) grows at least an inch a day, i have her LST'd but i would say she is at least 14 inches tall (sprouted on 11/9). she is from some good mexi bagseed. this is the plant that is making me have to come up with new ways to raise my cfl's almost every day. i hope she does not turn out to be male!

the next biggest plant (lilith) is from some good skunk seeds, not totally sure what kind but could be afghany. she looks totally different than penelope and was sprouted on 11/18. she is growing every day but not at nearly the rate of penelope.

in my last tub i have my sick plant (bagseed from some pretendo), a clone my buddy got me from a Purple Kush plant (which looks exactly the same as it did when i got it 4 days ago), and another possible afghany sprout that popped up on 11/26.
and the real guardian of the patch, Princess Overweight Devil Kitty Pow Pow!

I also have an automated security system, but the tennis ball is his Kryptonite. But if you dont have one of those, your fucked.

That tennis ball is the size of a grapefruit, for reference.

Holy crap man. That intrigued me enough to find this:

PERCENTAGE OF FEMALES
From literature it appears that the growth of a male or female plant from seed, except for the predisposition in the gender chromosomes, also depends on various environmental factors. For growers who are well experienced, percentage of female plants is 60% - 90% female, but less experienced growers can end up with 100% male plants. The environmental factors that, according to literature, influence gender are:

- a higher nitrogen concentration will give more females (at the three-pairs-of-leaves stage and continue for two or three weeks).
- a higher potassium concentration will give more males (at the three-pairs-of-leaves stage and continue for two or three weeks).
- a higher humidity will give more females (at the three-pairs-of-leaves stage and continue for two or three weeks).
- a lower temperature will give more females (at the three-pairs-of-leaves stage and continue for two or three weeks).
- more blue light will give more females (at the three-pairs-of-leaves stage and continue for two or three weeks).
- Fewer hours of light will give more females (at the three-pairs-of-leaves stage and continue for two or three weeks).
- In later stage, as you increase the light, the plants grow faster and show more females/less males. Sixteen hours of light per day seems to be the best combination, beyond this makes little or no appreciable difference in the plant quality.
- Another idea is to interrupt the night cycle with about one hour of light. This gives you more females.
- Spray dilute Fish Emulsion ( 1 tablespoon per gallon ). When the plants have three sets of true leaves, plus the top sprout, give them a wetting spray of Fish Emulsion. Do it once a day for three of four days. Top and bottom of the leaves.
- To achieve 100% female plants is to expose young seedlings for several hours to an atmosphere of Carbon Monoxide. It doesn't hurt the plants, but it could kill you.
- Treatment of hempseed with ethylene gas will increase the resulting number of female plants by about 50%. Ethylene is produced by certain plants (i.e., bananas, cucumbers and melons), and these can be used to treat hempseed in a simple manner. About two weeks before you plan to sprout the seeds, place them in a paper bag or envelope and put that in a plastic bag with the peels of a ripening banana or cucumber. Replace the peels after a couple of days, and change the bags to prevent mold.
- When hempseed is treated with the female hormone estrogen, percentage of females that are produced will increase by about 10%. Dissolve a birth control pill in water and soak the seeds overnight in the solution. After the initial soaking, continue to treat the seeds by sprouting them on a paper towel soaked in the solution.
I'm not sure how accurate this info is. I always thought the seeds were just predisposed to its gender, but I dunno.

dam if that is the case that is one big puppy, is she/he a mix? looks kinda pit bullish but the ears look a little big.

good info wulfgeir, the only one of those i knew about was the banana method, there is a long thread on that somewheres around here, and a lot of people saying it worked for them.

time for some updates on my plants! things are proceeding along pretty well, i put my big plant penelope into flowering today. i need to get a new grounded timer so right now im going to have to do the lights manually for 12/12. i still have no nutes of any sort, i think that might be a good investment but i have a feeling i may not have them for this grow. i am starting to run into issues with light coverage, i have my plants too spread out for the few sockets i have. i need to get some more y splitters and plugs and a few more bulbs and i will be good i think.

Penelope is still growing like a weed and has to be 1.5 feet or taller (she is LST'd, the main stem and most side branches). put into flower today 12/07.

Lilith and Esmerelda are my two indica plants in the clear tub, Lilith is growing well and i just LST'd her so she is slanty stemmed now. i would say she is about 7 inches tall at this point. Esmerelda is still small but i just transplanted her to a 1.5 gallon pot so i think the roots are spreading out now and the top of the plant should take off pretty soon. I have noticed differences between these two plants so they may be different strains, just both short fat leaved strains.

my sick plant and the clone seem to be in stasis, the clone doesnt grow at all (i think i need to get her in a bigger pot) and the sick plant keeps being sick and growing weirdly. im thinking of throwing the sick plant into flowering soon just to see what happens, as she is older than penelope by a few days.

i hope penelope shows sex soon, if she terms out to be a he then i can get rid of her and use that space for my other plants.

heya blazed, that one is in a 3 gallon pot, which is its final pot. i have realized after using that pot that it is too big to have many more of them in my space. i wish i had square pots or growbags.
i did just use an empty protein powder bag for a grow bag and put my clone into it yesterday, she is looking fine so far.
