Area 51 lights circa 2013

Hi.

I have an Area 51 light...I forget the model number, but it's the one with the white spectrum with the switch that can add an additional group of red diodes. It was a very popular model a few years ago and I know that many forum members owned them. It's actually been a very good light for me so far. I know it's not efficient by today's standard, but I am curious if anyone knows what spectrum(s) the white diodes are and what spectrum the red diodes are. I know all the diodes are Cree, but reds don't look exactly the same color as the 660 Osram Oslans. Does anyone know the colors? For some reason, I want to say the reds are 730nm. And the white diodes appear to be higher than 5000K because they look more blue/white/"daylight" than they do "warm" white.

Thanks in advance!

Looked this up, not much but it’s from 2014 and does give possible part #’s? Maybe you could cross reference?

Interesting. I have the older xgs 190s which are all white diodes but they seem warmer than 5000k for sure. Edit: they are 3700k.

I think my light slightly predates the XGS 190. I know that he started out with a particular type of white and red diodes and then changed them very shortly thereafter to warmer colored whites because he said they had more red in them. But the white diodes I have in my fixture are very blue/white looking. And the reds look a little different, too. I know he also offered an update kit that could be installed by the user....but then after that, shit hit the fan and he bounced.

Yup. Just looked and I journaled my grow with those in June 2014. It just seems longer ago!

What you have is a SGS which uses 5000k white's with 630 reds :hump:

"The specific LEDs that the RW-150 uses are listed as Cree XTE Cool White XTEAWT-00-0000-000000H50 R5 + Cree XPE Red XPERED-L1-0000-00801 P3."

R/W was 50% red diodes
First XGS 160 had 24/72 red and whites could be 5250k on R/W and 4500k on XGS 160
If I recall

Firstly, thank you for the information! I was out for a while, and didn't realize that I was using collector's items. I THINK I have one of the last SGS-160s that rolled out, since when I bought my next, they were replaced with the RW150. They seem like they are pretty much the same, EXTERNALLY, with the exception of the casing being silver on the 160 and white on the 150, but I'm not one to pull things apart. I use a 150 or 160 + RW75 in each of my two 32"x32"s, and was looking for something comparable, moving forward. The 300W options out there all generate WAY more heat than I am used to (this is judging from some friends), but none of them are running their controllers on the outside of their tents. Anyone know for sure, if doing this with most would limit the temp increase IN the tent to 10 or 15 degrees above the outside ambient temps? My ventilation is good, and I currently only experience a 7 degree uptick during flower (the Area 51s use lenses). I'm sure it's subjective by brand, so have any of you made a similar upgrade (over the past 10 years...geez)? In approaching the problem by turning down a 600W, many of the light offerings won't fit in the same space. Glad to see a familiar "face" @The Dawg (I was forced into a newbie handle, adding a dash)

Welcome back brother Greatbranch. Lmao collector items those cree's are barley broken in and should last a few more years. Yea I'm still here and Im about to start another grow using my Vero29 and Citizens 1812 Cob lamps. I run my drivers on my frame inside my tent and I can keep my tent temp between 83-88 degrees which Imho is the sweet zone. I use the 1.4mA driver giving me 275 watts in a 3x3. I also have a couple of lamps running on 1.05 mA drivers giving me 250 watts in my 3x3. Sounds like you have your Hvac in check so adding a few more watt's wouldn't be a hassle. I will be on the look out for your new grow log :hump:
