Are the more expensive seeds worth it?

I just bought these let's hope they are worth the price paid. I would say you get what you pay for

Yeah, good luck, genuinely.
I have bought about £150 worth of them and had 2 outta 20ish that where 'good'.
I just hope you never have to contact those lying thieving bast's at rqs...
FYI rqs tried to stitch me up to tune of €1300 - no joke.

Wow that's bad. Well touch wood I'm all good. I have used ww and BC. From rqs they all worked out good enough for me. I also just bought from zamnesia so interested to see how they are.

It really depends. Any breeder that's been around awhile will have good genetics. DNA, Barney's Farm, DJ Short etc.. Then you will have some that pay an especially great attention to detail when crossing and back crossing in order to bring out dominant traits that several strains are known for. This can at minimum take 2 years to achieve. At this point, it is definitely worth it because it's something that was masterfully created and something most people aren't willing to shell out 200 bucks on for 8 or 10 seeds. I'm running my first in house genetic jelly breath and it smells fire asf just starting in a solo cup at 4" tall.

One thing I look out for is crosses that have not been around very long crossed with something else of the same. In other words strain of the month in August crossed with strain of the month in October. Some things are gimmicky and only pitched because the desirability is only found in the fact that they were the first ones to do that cross. They market on exclusivity rather than stability and consistency.

I feel it really depends on the breeder and what there price is. Chances are that if you get some Bodhi,Ethos, cannarado seeds your going to find something pretty good. Also some have suggested DNA genetics also they are good. One of my goals is to cross a 88g13hp cross with a peach crescendo from ethos and get some seeds from that to use for a bit

I know you didn’t really ask what my goals are lol but just wanted to share that info with you. Maybe spark some ideas ! Thanks for the question it’s good to see some comments of highly suggested breeders. Espically when it generates a lot of comments and you start seeing some of the breeders repeated (like DNA for example in this thread). Gives you a better feeling about the options you ultimately choose

I hear you @kylewright201 I know how it goes, I got only 1 from them worth keeping (Hulkberry). My WW didn't make it out of seed, but yours was good. (: (btw how much where the zz punch seeds?) Have you got plans to use them for more than a single run?

I use UK or Dutch now (DCS or weedseedshop) though gonna give grizzly a try next (and only when their freebie suits) lol

But for my own needs I've started using CS to keep genetics now (avoids a long mature space hog in my tents)

Good luck

Tried their Snow White and all 10 seeds were awful grassy pieces of shit.
See that right there, wanna err on side of caution and suggest bad genetic batch.
But if that where me (and it was RQS!) I would never be done raging. That's 50 hard earned quid down the shitter!

Not used Nirvana, found the flavours of websites come in moderately or hyper 'color' styles and I avoid hypercolor.

The beautiful lady of the grow room, pics taken 5 mins ago. 5 weeks into 12/12. Coco. 3 gallon square pot.

Here she is... Not bad for Barney's Farm mediocre genetics.

Mid shelf bud porn pics...

Simply every time my I open this 3x3 tent and see this stunning girl I just smile, but then smell her and she wreaks 60% of Blueberry and 40% cheese. She just makes me smile and that's why we do this ey? I'm taking pre orders on this bitch!

Didn't mean to have such a heavy dig at the USA's obesity pandemic and all that in my last post. lol Just got a bit of an English sense of humour and I will also always back Dutch genetics. Not like me to get political. lol

I was just wondering if the likes of exotic genetix, in house genetics and the more expensive brands are worth the extra money? Are they harder to grow, easier to grow? A lot more flavour than the more normal priced genetics? I'm just trying to work out why they are over £100 for a pack of 5-10 seeds and if they're worth it. Thanks for any info, stay high :eyesmoke: :eyesmoke:
I think if you are good grower than it is, but if you prone to f. . ups like me, than it's not.

Every first run of a strain I haven't grown before I have seed production in mind. I've been doing it for years. Now I have vials of seeds of strains I bought a 5 pack of. Plus dozens of crosses as good or better than some of the stuff people are paying $20 a seed for.

It's kind of risky with just a 5 pack and a ten pack is better if you want to guarantee both males and female. So far I've been lucky with the 5 packs I've had for some strains and have gotten both. Sometimes 4 female or 4 males but all you need is one of each. I basically grow landraces or IBL's regulars. I make my own crosses and like starting from scratch or stabilized genetics. Landraces can be all over the map but IBL's typically provide something you have an good idea about. ACE has some good stuff and has been the starting point for some of the things I'm playing around with.

As for actual landraces. I've grown some stuff from The Real Seed Company and the Mazar I Sharif was all over the map. I had one plant that smelled like mint. I'm not joking. It smelled like spearmint. Strongly. Fortunately I pollinated it with this odd looking male and got a bunch of seeds. Plants were all over the map which is what I was hoping for and expected with seeds from plants growing in as wild conditions as is possible today.

Genetics are being lost all over the world as areas that have traditionally grown what was local are now planting imported hybrids to increase yield and THC content. In the process genetics are being diluted and in some cases are going extinct. I'm trying to keep as many as I can before it's all just some hybrid orgy with none of the under appreciated original genetics even being remembered.

It won't be long before anything without the word cookies or pineapple in the name means crappy weed. Give me an authentic 1970's 80"s Thai, Acapulco Gold, Columbian Red, Jamaican, Hawaiian and I'll be happy.
on the subject of more expensive seeds...Royal queen have released their F1 Range
this range is much more expensive than most strain, these are selling out and customers are raving obout how good these actually are

The extra money is the extra love they put into breeding and using proper genetics,
Good rule of thumb go with American genetics
Nothing wrong with Dutch stuff but they just can’t compete,
Best auto flowering genetics is Mephisto ask anybody

And for regs or fem
Cannarado
Skunk house
Dominion
Luckydog
Top dawg
Dj short
Greenpoint

sorry got carried away but I guess it depends on what u wanna grow
I agree about Mephisto to a degree.
1.). Genetics are consistent. 2 plants same strain, gonna grow perfectly the same
2.). Excellent yields
3). Very high THC levels
BUT.......their germination rates are garbage (which is why when you buy a 3 pack, you get 5, they know germ rates suck).
And their customers service is shit, don't expect to ever hear from them, and they offer no replacement or guarantee on their seeds.
Not worth the $20 per seed.

Seed prices are set by supply/demand like everything else. You can grow decent bud with cheap seeds; higher prices do not always represent higher quality. You have no idea how long the seeds has been sitting in a shelf. They lose vigor and become harder to germinate after awhile. The seed banks that tend to sell fresher beans also tend to charge a bit more for their shit; go figure. Here’s a few tips for selecting what to get:
Avoid any seeds on a “hot” or “most popular” list. Find strains you like or have tried before from a reputable breeder and consider ordering regular seeds. Breeders with a well known reputation like Bodhi or TGA can charge more for their gear; that is how capitalism works. So what you do is buy a 10 pack; pop them all off and select a male for pollination. Yes it kills the yield for a single run but then you got free beans for years.
Yes sir....however in the seed industry, it's marketing marketing marketing. Is fast buds 420 the BEST seeds? Ohhh Helllll no. But they are EVERYWHERE. They charge 20$ per seed, employ 5 people, make cash hand over fist, good for them, and they spend tons on marketing.
Take a company like Humboldt, they employ 100 people, charge $13/seed, and don't spend tons on marketing because they're established.

I personally think it's good to stick to established breeders. If you want consistency.
